Air Aisa Onboard Meals

Not sure which one to choose during online pre-book meal with Air Aisa? Looking at those photos, everything seem to be so delicious at that moment. But when you received your meal onboard, it doesn't seem to be what you expected. Have you encountered this problem before?

So this round, I will review on some of the pre-book meals I have booked during my trip to Bangkok with AirAsia.

Beautiful skyline from the plane
If you pre-book the meal online, you will receive a complimentary mineral water (100ml). Online-pre-book meal is also slightly cheaper than you order inflight. You will also find some of the meals are only available online pre-booking. So, it is advisable to pre-book your meal before onboard, this way you can save money and avoid any disappointment if the flight run out of food.
(Pre-book) Asian Fried Rice with Chicken Satay- RM12.00

(Pre-book) Asian Fried Rice with Chicken Satay- RM12.00
This meal is only available in online pre-book meal. It is the taste of  kampung fried rice, level of spiciness is medium. The fried rice accompanied with 2 sticks of chicken satay. However the fried rice was a bit hard and dry. Chicken satay taste quite good. Probably I will order their Chicken Satay next time.

(Pre-Book) Roast Chicken with Cream Sauce-RM12.00
(Pre-Book) Roast Chicken with Cream Sauce-RM12.00
This meal is only available in online pre-book meal. It is a combination of marinated roast chicken served with creamy sauce, complemented with side of buttered carrots, pumpkin, broccoli and roasted potatoes. The taste of the roast chicken is not bad at all, roast chicken still remained its juiciness.

(Pre-Book) Pak Nasser's nasi lemak-RM12.00
(Pre-Book) Pak Nasser's nasi lemak-RM12.00
This meal is available online and inflight. A traditional Malaysian favourite fragrant coconut rice served with chilli sambal and chicken rendang, accompanied with fried anchovies, groundnuts and half of a hard-boiled egg.
Nasi Lemak is the only meal I always order during my flight with AirAsia. I always thinks that it is the safest meal to order as it won't go wrong.  However, I was quite disappointed this round. The overall was good except for the chicken rendang. Looking at the photo above, do you see any rendang? Am I colour blind or what? At first I thought I was too tired since woke up early morning to catch flight, but my instinct never go wrong. What I tasted is not rendang, it is more like Ayam masak Merah, sweet and spicy. So I guess it will go wrong sometime with my favourite nasi lemak!

(Pre-Book) Chicken Lasagna-RM12.00
Do you spot any spelling mistake? Bingo! Hooray AirAsia!

(Pre-Book) Chicken Lasagna-RM12.00
This meal only available in online pre-book meal. Since we will have a long weekend with Thai food, we thought of having some western food for a change. So we pre-book this meal. Our first reaction is regret for not ordering two Nasi Lemak. After tasting it, we have the same reaction again, should have order Nasi Lemak. Cheer!

I hope this post will help you when choosing your pre-book meal onboard with AirAsia. For more information on AirAsia meals, check out their menu here.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Satay Satay | Paradigm Mall

A short while back I tried out the Satay Satay restaurant in Paradigm Mall. It's located at the lower ground floor, just opposite of Tesco's entrance. As this is my first time visiting this franchise, I would say its quite interesting. Lets see what kind of food they have.

Chinese Tea-RM1.50, Soya Bean-RM2.80
The Chinese tea is quite pricey. RM1.50 is enough for 3 glasses or more of Chinese tea at hawker stalls, but then again this is a franchise restaurant in a shopping mall. I guess this is pretty much the norm in KL nowadays. However, the soya bean drink is really nice, not too sweet, yet very fragrant. Glad to have tried it.

Kampung Fried Rice - RM9.90
I ordered the kampung fried rice as I was in the mood for it that day. It looks and smells great actually, but one taste of it and I was shocked at how salty the whole dish is. They put alot of soya sauce to the point I can really call this soya sauce fried rice. I would have preferred to cook my own fried rice and eat at home... If you really like salty food, maybe it suites you, I don't know. All I know that this dish has exceeded my tolerance for saltiness in the food.

Cantonese Fried Kuey Teow - RM9.90
I also ordered the cantonese fried kuey teow and unfortunately, it is also very salty, but not as bad as the fried rice. At least there is still some of the sauce that balances the taste, but I can still taste a strong smell of soya sauce in it, which is weird 'cause I don't remember cantonese fried kuey teow needs so much of soya sauce.

Chicken Satay Set - RM12.90 (10 sticks)
Nevertheless, their chicken satay really did save the day. It was very very nice indeed, I would say better than Kajang satay. But this was expensive and we couldn't just fill our tummies with satay alone. So it was best eaten as a side dish to complement the main dishes. Too bad I think, if they had focused on improving their main dishes, they could have attracted much more customers to come for their satay. Let's hope that they would do that in the future.

Nasi Lemak @ Bukit Gantang

Whenever, my family on our way back to Penang, we always stop by Bukit Gantang Rest Area for our all-time favourite nasi lemak and teh tarik. There are two stalls selling nasi lemak and we used to buy from the left hand side stalls which consists of nasi lemak with egg but the taste has deteriorate and the rice has a smell of cockroach. Therefore, we no longer buy from there. For now we prefer the nasi lemak stall on the right hand side which is named D'Hentian Selera. You can see it from the photo below.

Outside of the packaging, you can see the name of Rokiah Idris nasi lemak. Yes, this is the one I'm saying! Remember the name when you choose your nasi lemak!
Nasi Lemak-RM1.50

The nasi lemak consists of sambal bilis, peanuts and a small piece of salted fish. The potion was indeed a bit small. We usually take two packets of it. What I love the most is the sambal which suited our taste very much.

Teh Tarik-RM2.00
It used to be my dad's favourite drink whenever he stop by here. But recently, dad realised that the taste of the teh tarik has change. They no longer used Marigold's condensed milk but Dairy Champ which lost the fragrant in the teh tarik. I can see both dad and brother were quite disappointed with the teh tarik as they used to loved.

Sate Kajang Haji Samuri | Kajang

After a long drive to Semenyih, we stopped at Kajang to have our lunch. Sate Kajang Haji Samuri is the place we choose to have Satay which Kajang is famous for. I believe everyone is very familiar with this restaurant as it has 15 branches around Selangor and Klang Valley.

There is two sections of the restaurant, you can either choose to sit at the non-smoking area and smoking area. For me, I will choose the non-smoking area where there is air-conditional.

All orders are make at the counter near the smoking area where it is very obvious seen once you walk into the restaurant. At first you need to choose a table to be seated and take note of the table number before you order. The waitress at the counter will need your table number upon ordering so that they could bring the food to your table.

That day, many of the items listed in the menu are not available. For example, sate fish, ice kacang, ketupat and many more. Other than just ordering the Satay, we do ordered other food like the Kueh Teow goreng and nasi goreng as eating sates can't really fulfilled our stomach. **big eater**
Kueh Teow Goreng-RM 3.50
I never expect much about typical malay Keuh Teow Goreng after staying in the Uni hostel for 3 years. You just simply can not compare our Chinese Char Kueh Teow to this Malay Keuh Teow Goreng. Malay Keuh Teow Goreng does not have those fragrance smell and it is more sticky like we always had trouble cooking our own Char Keuh Teow at home.

Nasi Ayam Goreng-RM 4.50
Looking at the photo above, I believe that you do not have the excitement of trying this. Fried rice with very small piece of chicken. Fried rice with only pieces of egg and chilli flakes which is tasteless just bring down our appetite.
Chicken Satay-RM 0.60 per stick
The famous of all the "Satay". We really looking forward to the satay and it is indeed didn't let us down. The Satay was very big potion than those I bought before, plus it does not contain those oily fats. It is the girls' favourite for not seeing the oily pesky fats in the satay. However, if they can just BBQ it for a longer time it would be much better as it is not fragrance enough. The peanut gravy for the satay is splendid. The gravy is thick with lots of peanuts, every bites are peanuts, peanuts and peanuts and also come with a bowl of sambal.

Nasi Impit (per plate)- RM1.30
We were planing to order Ketupat but it was not sold that day so instead we order the Nasi Impit which is the alternative to Ketupat. It is the perfect match with the Satay and the Peanut Sauce. Must order together with the Satay.

Nasi Lemak Cikgu | Kelana Jaya

I went to have lunch with my family today at Nasi Lemak Cikgu. I bought 4 vouchers from everyday.com on Nasi Lemak Cikgu that cost RM4 each only. I saw a lot of people complaint after went there with voucher saying that the potion was smaller compare to the normal one. They feel cheated I think because the photos shown in the website is so much different. Before we sat down, dad went to the counter to ask about the vouchers. They did said that the potion will be smaller compare to the normal one. That's alright at least they admit it but when we ask for ice lemon tea instead of can drink they said we have to charge extra for the drink. Gosh..do they really know how to do business? A cup of ice lemon tea sold there is more cheaper than the can drink.. aren't they will earn more if they serve us ice lemon tea..
Nasi Lemak Set Meal contains
  • Nasi Lemak
  • Fried Chicken
  • Kerang / Sotong / Sardin
  • 1 Can of Drinks
The taste was just normal but if you ask me to pay RM10 for a plate of nasi lemak I think I'll have to think twice. There is a big sign stated self service means you have to order food at the counter before you can seated. The service was not really good over there too. The waiter or waitress didn't even smile at us when we arrived., their face look like we own them money..gosh..how can this business survive with this attitude.
