Sculpted Story Boxes and Miniatures of the Winter Spirits

Hollye is a mixed media artist and the creator of all the whimsical things at Willow Works. She hand-sculpts one of a kind creatures out of her imaginative mind, inspired by her fascination with anything magical. She makes tiny sculptures of the creatures who seem to be from another world and story boxes often depicting a scene. The pieces are made by hand and sanded many times before they are varnished. If you want to bring one of her magical pieces home then keep checking for updates on Instagram as she releases her pieces once a month online.

Jonathan Adler: Glass Menagerie

Glass Menagerie by Jonathan Adler is a gorgeous collection of animal sculptures including owl, baboon, lion, gazelle, fox, cat and koala. I love the combination of glossy colors and textured, rough surface of the figurines.

"Jonathan Adler pottery begins its life in our Soho studio, where Jonathan and his team design and sculpt every prototype. The product you are viewing is produced by skilled artisans at our main workshop in Peru. They make molds from our prototypes and then hand craft each piece from high-fired stoneware or porcelain."

All the critters from the collection can be viewed here.

Walter Bosse Brass Figurines

I first discovered Walter Bosse delightful brass sculptures through this website. Walter Bosse was an Australian designer who created designs and pottery figurines. He started creating these miniature animals around 1950s with metal using a technique of patina on polished brass, the range was called 'Black Golden Line'. You can see the entire collection and make a purchase from this website.

I May Have Found My Twin

While browsing Flickr last night, I came across these photos taken by Christine at an Estate sale of an owl collector. My jaw dropped to the floor when I was this huge collection of owls. Her collection seems to have owls in every shape and size. I looked at these photos at least a hundred times, if not more, admiring every owl figurine, plate, lamp, jar, mugs and everything else the lady collected in the past 60 years. My heart is beating so fast while I am writing this post. I think I may have found my twin?

A Round Family

I'm not a big fan of figurines, but this owl family is so adorable. These little round guys with pointy noses, spiked hair and big eyes will look perfect on a bookshelf. The family is designed and made of porcelain stoneware in Italy.

Darling Trio

I'm loving this trio! They were found at an open air market by La Meva Maleta for only 3 €, which is about $4. Isn't this the best deal ever?

~Nanbu Tekki~

These owl figurines are called Nanbu Tekki in Japanese, which means the best brand of ironware in Japan. This material is still popular and is exemplary of Japanese traditional craft. The black color is the result of a Japanese lacquer glaze called urushi which prevents rust.

Abby Glassenberg's While She Sleeps

Abby Glassenberg constructs one-of-a-kind beautiful pieces in which she incorporates fabric found at unexpected places like labels sewn into clothing or flour sacks, along with the colorful vintage fabric. The creativity of this artist is worth an applause. The detailing in the wings of the bird is jaw dropping beautiful. She works on the soft sculptures during the time of the day while her daughter naps, which explains her blog's name - While She Naps.

This bird doesn't come cheap as a lot of hard work has gone into it, but her shop has the most amazing collection which you wouldn't want to miss.

French Money Bank

Isn't this the cutest owl money bank you have ever seen? I specially like his horn shaped ears and Pinocchio looking nose. It's hand painted in France. It'd make a great gift for any kid or accessories your work desk. Measures approximately 5"h.

For $32 at Three Potato Four.

Owl Plushies by 'Night Owl Paper Goods'

If you recently visited Night Owl Paper Goods, you must have seen their Owl Plushies. These are the latest addition to their store and are going fast! What make these plush owls unique is that they are made out of thrift sweaters and repurposed book pages. If you look closely (click on the picture to zoom) you'll notice that each owl has a pair of acorn eyes. Isn't that genius? So, here you have an owl which is super cute and is 100% nature friendly.

Contact Lori Nichols, who made these for Alan and Jennifer, if you have a sweater and she'll make it look this cute.

From Russia With Love

These owl nesting dolls are hand crafted and hand painted by artists in Russia. I love the first set. Did you notice the glasses on the big owl, bow around the neck of the smaller one and a globe on the belly of the smallest?

Available at The Russian Store.

Chillingworth

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Mr. Chillingworth, the owl. He is one of the many Ann Wood's amazing crafty inspirations. He was constructed out of an antique bodice shown below. I desire (so much) right now to hold him and examine every stitch, every fold and every tiny piece of cloth that went into it. He is stunning. Do you agree?

“A striking evidence of man’s faculty of transforming himself into a devil, if he will only, for a reasonable space of time, undertake a devil’s office.”

His eyes are amazing. In my opinion these buttons reflect an expression. An expression of wickedness.
Who knew there was so much wickedness hidden in this gorgeous bodice. Thank you Bess for this great find.

Do you feel being hypnotized by this owl?

Some Missed Opportunities

I just saw these beautiful figurines and other owl stuff at Three Potato Four, but unfortunately most of these are sold. I still wanted to share these cute owls with you as I think they make good eye candy. Right?
