Rising Star: Taylor Kitsch

Former model and current Men's Health cover man Taylor Kitsch is one busy actor these days. In addition to being the breakout star of NBC's brilliant high school football drama "Friday Night Lights," Taylor had parts in the three films this year, "Snakes on a Plane," "John Tucker Must Die" and "The Covenant."

Friday Night (High)Lights: Scott Porter, Zach Gifford and Taylor Kitsch

Ever since I read about the new television series version of "Friday Night Lights" I've been interested in the idea. It seems like a great premise for a show -- and when I saw Kyle Chandler's name attached, I was even more excited. Now the reviews are in and the buzz is that it's the best new show on television. So I'm walking out the door to work right now -- but my DVR is set for tonight's premiere. As if Kyle Chandler and great reviews aren't enough incentive to watch, I'll leave you with a few other reasons to check it out. The other great thing about the show is it allows me to indulge in all of my "Two-a-Days" fantasies without feeling totally like Mark Foley -- Scott Porter, Zach Gifford, Taylor Kitsch and all of the other actors are well over 18 ...

Morning Glory: Taylor Kitsch

Yesterday I mentioned one of the (many) highlights of the show "Friday Night Lights" was the actor Taylor Kitsch. I think these photos of the British Columbian model-turned-actor tell you everything else you need to know ...

Taylor Kitsch Goes to the Beach

"Friday Night Lights" hunk Taylor Kitsch looks great with his lady friend wearing the latest in men's swimwear. GQ says the boxer-style trunk is in -- "not those droopy, oversize surf shorts" -- but somehow I think Taylor would look good in just about anything ...

Kitschy Taylor

Taylor Kitsch or no Taylor Kitsch, I won't be seeing "John Carter." But I am enjoying his James Dean-inspired photo shoot for GQ. Read the interview HERE.

Taylor Kitsch Keeps It Moving

If Taylor Kitsch has been living on the streets of New York since "John Carter" bombed, someone please tell him he's welcome to crash at my place.

Move Over, Jordan Catalano

Tim Riggins may very well be the biggest high school TV dreamboat of all time. But why exactly do we love the "Friday Night Lights" (and "X-Men Origins: Wolverwine") hunk Taylor Kitsch so? Let us count the ways ...

“His lips are always so red,” said Lindsey Berns (rather dreamily), the director of college counseling at Brooklyn Friends. “And he gets that flush on his face ... he has really beautiful skin. And I’m a sucker for well-defined arms.”

“He has Brad Pitt–circa–Thelma and Louise–era lips,” agreed Margaret Brown, a television producer who owns a T-shirt for Riggins’ team, the Dillon Panthers. “His hair is always a little bit greasy -- but you know he smells like stale beer and sweat. Yum.”

“Riggins will treat you like shit and fuck your brains out,” as one Brooklynite said. And that's a good thing, OK?

    Thank God It's 'Friday'

"Friday Night Lights" makes its long-awaited return to the boob tube tonight. (It's truly the best show on TV.) In celebration, New York magazine caught up with its hottest star, Taylor Kitsch, in which they describe a recent scene I stumbled upon not too long ago:

There’s an episode in the new season of Friday Night Lights in which Tim Riggins, the bad boy with a goldenish heart, visits New York with his wheelchair-bound friend Jason Street. The odd couple roams midtown in search of a decent suit for a job interview. Riggins is supposed to look like a Texas fish out of water—the local football star from the depressed fictional town of Dillon cut down to size by the big, slick city. And yet as he ambles through Times Square, surrounded by pedestrian extras, ridiculously hot even in his Hicksville plaid shirt, he just can’t help looking like a star.

Indeed. Read the full article HERE.

    TGI Friday Night Lights

A couple of people have written to find out why I hadn't followed up on my purported interest in Kyle Chandler's new high school football drama, "Friday Night Lights." A few things conspired to keep me from watching it the past few weeks, but as of last night I'm all caught up on the four episodes that have aired to date.

Despite my enormously high expectations and the hype surrounding it, I was not disappointed one bit. In fact, it somehow managed to be better than I expected. (For those who aren't familiar with the book or movie of the same name, it's about the trials and tribulations of a new coach coming to work in a small West Texas town that lives and dies by its high school football). I immediately fell in love with Coach's wife, Tami. She brings a much-needed balance to the show's hypermasculine storyline For the life of me couldn't figure out where I knew the actress who plays her from then I finally figured out that she's Connie Britton, who was wonderful as the wife wronged Molly in Ed Burns first film, "The Brothers McMullen." The girl who plays their daughter is great too.

Taylor Kitsch (on sofa) as bad boy Tim Riggins is about the hottest guy on primetime television, and the gal who plays good girl cheerleader Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly) is a very impressive young actress with incredible range. Zach Gilford as backup QB Matt Saracen -- the kid with way too much on his plate -- is also a standout (as well as a cutie, below).

    Zach Gilford, above.

Kyle Chandler and Taylor Kitsch have a heart-to-heart in the rain.

Having gotten a semi-late start watching the show you can only imagine my horror when I read in The Washington Post that it's already "ratings starved" and in danger of being canceled (has this ever not happened with a show I've watched? (See "The Comeback" and "Sons & Daughters" and so on.) I spoke to a couple of people who have watched it and they all agree that it's "very well-done," yet many of them said they weren't completely "into it" yet. Despite America's obsession with sports (particularly football) it was ironic to me that many of them -- straight men at work, no less -- cited a lack of interest in the football aspect of the show. Go figure -- I've read that NBC is "standing by" the show for now and even giving it a special airing on Monday night after one of their bigger hits. Check it out and let me know what you think. Tim Riggins' Latest Superhero Role: Fighting AIDS!

Lainey Gossip has a cache of photos of Taylor Kitsch on the set of "The Normal Heart," the long-overdue film adaptation of Larry Kramer's groundbreaking play about the early days of AIDS. Kitsch plays Bruce Niles, a co-founder and early president of the Gay Men's Health Crisis alongside Ned, who is based on Kramer himself.

Bruce Niles was based on Paul Popham, a decorated Vietnam veteran turned corporate go-getter who died of AIDS in 1987. Sadly, Kitsch's interpretation of the role does not include Niles' trademark mustache, which upped Lee Pace's sex appeal incredibly during the show's 2011 Broadway revival! Ryan Murphy is at the helm of this one, so here's hoping he doesn't fuck it up like every other adaptation he's ever touched.

    Taylor Made

"Friday Night Lights" alum Taylor Kitsch stopped by the Apple store in Soho to discuss his new film, "The Bang Bang Club." Based on the true-life experiences of four combat photographers capturing the final days of apartheid in South Africa. the movie screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, and director Steven Silver and author Greg Marinovich were also on hand.

    TV Guide Brings Sexy Back

Patrick Dempsey is TV Guide's Sexy Issue cover man.

McDreamy and uber-hot Justin Chambers of "Grey's Anatomy" show off their guns.

TV's hottest pretty boys, Tom Welling of "Smallville" and Skeet Ulrich -- looking like Andrew Shue in his "Melrose Place" heyday -- of "Jericho."

Minka Kelly sure isn't a guy, but she's definitely one of the sexiest people on television, as is her "Friday Night Lights" bad boy Taylor Kitsch.

Dave Annable makes me want to watch "Brothers & Sisters."

Josh Holloway of "Lost" is Sex on a Beach.

Ugly Betty's not-so-ugly boss, Eric Mabius.

Hot Stuff: Shemar Moore of "Criminal Minds" and David Boreanaz of "Bones."

Another helping of Skeet and Anne Heche's latest find, James Tupper.

People magazine spotted "Normal Heart" hotties Matt Bomer and Taylor Kitsch were being human beings in Manhattan and wanted us all to know about it.
