To-die-for Apple Crumble

- 3 lbs (8 cups) cooking apples (Granny Smiths are good) shopping list
- 2 cups brown sugar shopping list
- 2 cups oatmeal shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 1 cup butter or margarine, melted shopping list
- 4 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg) shopping list
- lemon juice (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 (or can be prepared ahead of time and baked later)
- Peel and slice apples into thin pieces, adding lemon juice as you go to prevent browning, place in mixing bowl
- Add 1 tsp cinnamon to apples, mixing apples until well coated in cinnamon
- In larger mixing bowl, place sugar, oatmeal and flour, remaining cinnamon, pumpkin spice (or cinnamon/nutmeg combo) and mix everything together
- Add melted butter
- Mix together until crumbly
- Spread half crumble mixture in bottom of large greased casserole dish
- Spread apples over layer of crumble
- Spread remaining crumble mixture over top of everything
- Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes

YES YES YES this is just exactly what I was looking for but did NOT have.... It is in my oven now and I can't wait to share with my family tonight. It does have double the amount of butter of my other recipe -- I'll just be a little bad tonight ...more
