Learning From History #7 - SEPARATION OF CHURCH & STATE

Learning From History #7 - SEPARATION OF CHURCH & STATE

Over the past few years I have been very concerned that the world is repeating history.  I know that many parts of the history that we are teaching our younger generation has been watered down and even outright twisted into a falsehood. This "history tweaking" is happening just because the truth might "offend" someone.  I know for a fact that this "history twisting" has happened because many of my family members lived through and remember World War II.

In this series we are going to study the difficult parts of history that might have recently, intentionally or unintentionally been overlooked.

The topic today is about the American Constitution and specifically "Separation of Church & State" found in the "Bill of Rights" (or the First Amendment).

(The Scripture passage below occurred when the Apostles were on trial for speaking about Jesus Christ):

And the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.
Acts 5:27-29

Last time we learned about the "The Queen Was Worth TRILLIONS" (click HERE to view that post).

Today we will be focusing on the First Amendment and specifically "the separation of church & state".

Below is the relevant excerpt from the First Amendment that applies to our topic today:

LearningFromHistory7B

I believe that this statement ("Separation of church & state") has been twisted from what the Founding Fathers originally created it to mean.  We have all been deceived into believing that "Separation of Church & State" means that we have to keep the church out of government - I believe that is a lie!!
"Separation of church & state" actually means
KEEPING GOVERNMENT OUT OF CHURCH!!

LearningFromHistory7A

Look at what John Adams said below:

LearningFromHistory7C

John Adams' statement makes total sense, since the Founding Fathers left Europe to escape from religious oppression and tyranny of any kind.

I go even farther than our featured line of "separation of church and state" and I believe:
LearningFromHistory7J

We see below that George Washington believed that a religious code or framework had to be present in order for there to be a national moral standard:

LearningFromHistory7G

Alexander Hamilton put it perfectly (see below) - without God's guidance, the American Constitution could never have been agreed to - coming from such a wide range of different people/lifestyles/backgrounds.

LearningFromHistory7H

John Quincy Adams (who was John Adams' eldest son) said it perfectly (see picture below):
"Our constitution was made for a moral & religious people."
It sometimes helps to understand by saying the opposite - Our constitution was NOT made for political people.

LearningFromHistory7F

President Reagan always had a way of putting things so simply while at the same time having such a deep meaning (see below).

LearningFromHistory7D

I finish this post with a quote from Benjamin Franklin (see picture below) - "God governs in the affairs of men."  I believe this is constant - not just when America was being formed but continuously through present day and into the future.  When we put God first - He is with us guiding us every second of everyday!

LearningFromHistory7E

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
Matthew 6:26

During the "pandemic" (a.k.a. "PLANdemic") - many churches totally caved in to the government and closed their doors.  And this (in my opinion), was the exact time when everyone needed God & His church the most!  History repeated itself and in this case totally annihilated the First Ammendment of the American Constitution.

Let's learn from even the recent past (2019-2021) and NEVER allow the government to control our religious freedom ever again!

DAY#28 - Freedom Quotes: No Use If You Have Lost Your God

    FreedomMonth

    DAY#28 - A Month of Freedom Quotes:
No Use If You Have Lost Your God

At the beginning of this series I thought that we (society as a whole) were just unappreciative of our freedom.  Then, that quickly changed to thinking that we are on the precipice of losing our freedom to now, realizing that we have already lost many of our freedoms.  This is a serious subject - I hope that you will pray for discernment and then stand up with strength from God, to preserve our freedom.

We will begin with the basics by defining "freedom".

Freedom - the absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in choice or action
    - liberation from restraint/slavery from the power of another

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States.

I fear that many Americans have "lost their God."  Let's pray continually for revival across the world!

DAY#25 - Freedom Quotes: Becoming What God Intends

    FreedomMonth

    DAY#25 - A Month of Freedom Quotes:
    Becoming What God Intends

We only have a week left of the month long series focusing on Freedom.  I realized that we are on the verge of losing our liberty after only one week of doing these posts.  This is a serious subject - I hope that you will pray for discernment and then stand up with strength from God to preserve our freedom.

We will begin with the basics by defining "freedom".

Freedom - the absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in choice or action
    - liberation from restraint/slavery from the power of another

The "American dream" model has been twisted into a lie over the past few decades.  It has been mangled into socialism or even communism where everyone must have equal parts, or be on the exact same level.  Excelling at something is now labeled as being "privileged"  or even "racist".

We need to allow God to transform us into exactly what He intends without consulting "society" first.

    DAY#2 - Freedom Quotes: Life & Liberty

    FreedomMonth

    DAY#2 - A Month of Freedom Quotes:
    Life & Liberty

Today we continue in a month long series focusing on Freedom.  We take freedom for granted more and more here in North America.  Sometimes it is helpful to go back to the basics,so let's begin by defining "freedom".

Freedom - the absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in choice or action
    - liberation from restraint/slavery from the power of another

Thomas Jefferson was one of the Founding Fathers and served as the third president.

There are two important details about this quote:
    1.  God-given
    2.  Life & liberty go hand in hand "At the same time"

Firstly, both life and freedom are given to us by God.

Secondly,  is living as a slave really living?  God made this world for us to live in abundance and if there is no freedom there can not be abundance.  And they were given to us at the same time - at birth.

    Old Fashioned Hymn Sing #118

Welcome to the 118th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "Moment by Moment" written by Daniel W. Whittle (1840-1901) & composed by May Whittle Moody (1870-1963).  This beautiful hymn has a unique history - it's a father/daughter duo!  The father (Daniel Whittle) was an evangelist & a gospel song writer, while his daughter composed the tune to go along with her father's lyrics.

I have included 2 videos below the lyrics (the second video is a cappella) .
    Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 395 in your hymnals and let's sing:

    Moment by Moment
written by Daniel W. Whittle (1840-1901) composed by May Whittle Moody (1870-1963)

    1. Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine;  Living with Jesus a new life divine;  Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine, Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

    CHORUS

    2.   Never a trial that He is not there, Never a burden that He doth not bear, Never a sorrow that He doth not share, Moment by moment,I'm under His care.

    CHORUS

    3.   Never a heartache and never a groan, Never a teardrop and never a moan;  Never a danger, but there on the throne, Moment by moment, He thinks of His own.

     CHORUS

    4.   Never a weakness that He doth not feel, Never a sickness that He cannot heal, Moment by moment, in woe or in weal, Jesus my Savior, abides with me still.

     CHORUS

    Chorus

Moment by moment I'm kept in His love;  Moment by moment I've life from above:

Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;  Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

    Biblical Anatomy #19 - FINGERS

    SundayBiblicalAnatomy19

    Biblical Anatomy #19 - FINGERS

Today we continue studying in the series called "Biblical Anatomy."

Anatomy - is the study of parts and structures of organisms.

What is "Biblical Anatomy" you might ask?  It is the study of the structure of the Christian Body (The Christian family/church).

    Today we focus on FINGERS:

Finger- (Merriam-Webster) any of the five terminating
members of a hand:  digit of the forelimb (especially
                 one other than the thumb).

Right from the beginning, our fingers and the sense of touch played a vital role in our fall from grace (see verse below).

".....but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
    Genesis 3:3

(Recently we studied how trees were also important when talking about our fall from grace in the Garden of Eden - click HERE to view "TREES - From the Fall to Forgiveness")

Fingers are so important in almost every aspect of our life.  And out of all five senses, I feel that touch is the most important because it is the strongest.  Let me explain, it has to do with a connection to those who we touch.  Holding someone's hand; even just a handshake is so much stronger than just a verbal greeting or a visual nod of acknowledgement.
"Touch" was all it took for the following people to be healed in the following Scripture passages (well, touch accompanied by faith in Jesus Christ):

    SundayBiblicalAnatomy19A

Don't forget that God wrote the 10 commandments on the stone tablets with His own finger! (see Bible verse below)

    SundayBiblicalAnatomy19C

Remember when the corrupt religious leaders tried to trick Jesus and tried to get Jesus to say or do something that went against God's law? see below:

"But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.  Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.  Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”  This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His FINGER, as though He did not hear.  So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”  And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.  Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.  When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one
condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.”  And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
    John 8:1-12

I love how cool Jesus was - just ignoring them and drawing in the sand and seemingly ignoring the corrupt leaders.  I wonder what He wrote or drew?  The other significant point having to do with "fingers" in this Scripture passage is the fact that it would take our fingers to grasp the stone before throwing it at the adulterer.

Finally, and probably most importantly, the encounter that Jesus had with Thomas after He had risen from the grave.  Doubting Thomas just had to touch for himself - seeing wasn't even enough for Thomas. (see verses below)

    SundayBiblicalAnatomy19B

Let's not forget that our fingers are also a form of identity.  I will end our study today with a quote from & a link to a previous post about proving that life begins in the womb.

QUOTE:  "Since fingerprints are used to prove the identity of someone at any crime scene, then why isn't a fingerprint proof of identity in the womb?  How can you say that we all have our own unique fingerprints but then say that a 6 month old fetus in the womb (with fully developed fingerprints) is not a unique human life?"
