Learning From History #7 - SEPARATION OF CHURCH & STATE
Over the past few years I have been very concerned that the world is repeating history. I know that many parts of the history that we are teaching our younger generation has been watered down and even outright twisted into a falsehood. This "history tweaking" is happening just because the truth might "offend" someone. I know for a fact that this "history twisting" has happened because many of my family members lived through and remember World War II.
In this series we are going to study the difficult parts of history that might have recently, intentionally or unintentionally been overlooked.
The topic today is about the American Constitution and specifically "Separation of Church & State" found in the "Bill of Rights" (or the First Amendment).
(The Scripture passage below occurred when the Apostles were on trial for speaking about Jesus Christ):
And the high priest asked them, saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”
But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.”
Acts 5:27-29

Today we will be focusing on the First Amendment and specifically "the separation of church & state".
Below is the relevant excerpt from the First Amendment that applies to our topic today:
I believe that this statement ("Separation of church & state") has been twisted from what the Founding Fathers originally created it to mean. We have all been deceived into believing that "Separation of Church & State" means that we have to keep the church out of government - I believe that is a lie!!
"Separation of church & state" actually means
KEEPING GOVERNMENT OUT OF CHURCH!!
Look at what John Adams said below:
John Adams' statement makes total sense, since the Founding Fathers left Europe to escape from religious oppression and tyranny of any kind.
I go even farther than our featured line of "separation of church and state" and I believe:
We see below that George Washington believed that a religious code or framework had to be present in order for there to be a national moral standard:
Alexander Hamilton put it perfectly (see below) - without God's guidance, the American Constitution could never have been agreed to - coming from such a wide range of different people/lifestyles/backgrounds.
John Quincy Adams (who was John Adams' eldest son) said it perfectly (see picture below):
"Our constitution was made for a moral & religious people."
It sometimes helps to understand by saying the opposite - Our constitution was NOT made for political people.
President Reagan always had a way of putting things so simply while at the same time having such a deep meaning (see below).
I finish this post with a quote from Benjamin Franklin (see picture below) - "God governs in the affairs of men." I believe this is constant - not just when America was being formed but continuously through present day and into the future. When we put God first - He is with us guiding us every second of everyday!
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
Matthew 6:26
During the "pandemic" (a.k.a. "PLANdemic") - many churches totally caved in to the government and closed their doors. And this (in my opinion), was the exact time when everyone needed God & His church the most! History repeated itself and in this case totally annihilated the First Ammendment of the American Constitution.
Let's learn from even the recent past (2019-2021) and NEVER allow the government to control our religious freedom ever again!
