Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #136

Welcome to the 136th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "I Sing the Praise of Love Unbounded" written by Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769).  There are two totally different author histories listed for Gerhard Tersteegen.  I won't go into detail about each history but both agree that he wrote over 100 hymns.

I Sing the Praise of Love Unbounded
written by Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769) composed by Dimitri Bortniansky (1752-1825)
translated by R.A. John 1912

1. I sing the praise of love unbounded, Which God in Christ has shown toman;  I sing of love that hath been founded Ere yet the stars their courses ran;  The love that offers free salvation To sinful man of every nation.

2.  The love of God planned my salvation Before I saw the light of day, And took away the law's damnation Of him whose feet had gone astray;  God's love is mine, O blessed mortal!  It opens wide the heavenly portal.

3.   While life shall last, I'll sing the glory Of  Christ the Savior and His love;  With angel hosts I'll tell the story Of Christ, in Zion's home above;  God's love is mine, death cannot sever Me from that heart that loves forever.

Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #135

Welcome to the 135th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

Today's featured hymn is "I Am Praying For You" written by Samuel O'Malley Cluff (1837-1910).  The author of this hymn spent most of his life in Ireland (he was born and died in there).  Although, he held many crusades in Scotland.  He wrote about 1,000 hymn songs.

I Am Praying for You
written by S. O'Malley Cluff (1837-1910) composed by Ira D. Sankey (1840-1908)

1. I have a Savior, He's pleading in glory, A dear, loving Savior thought earth friends be few;  And now He is watching in tenderness o'er me.  But oh, that my Savior were your Savior too!

CHORUS

2.  I have a Father, to me He has given A hope for eternity, blessed and true;  And soon He will call me to meet Him in heaven, But oh, that He'd let me bring you with me too!

CHORUS

3.   I have a robe, 'tis resplendent In whiteness, Awaiting in glory my wondering view;  Oh, when I receive it all shining in brightness, Dear friend, could I see you receiving one too!

 CHORUS

4.   When He has found you, tell others the story, That your loving Savior is their Savior too;  Then pray that the Father will bring them to glory, And pray'r will be answered - 'twas answered for you!

 CHORUS

Chorus

For you I am praying, For you I am praying, For you I am praying, I'm praying for you.

Prophecy Fulfilled - Isaiah 9:6-7

Prophecy Fulfilled - Isaiah 9:6-7

If you have been following along this year then you will know that I have had a change of heart regarding the Old Testament.  I used to think that only the New Testament was relevant today because it's all about Jesus Christ.  Well, I was so wrong - the Old Testament is full of prophecies about Jesus.

Today we will be studying verses 6 & 7 from Isaiah chapter 9.

AdventProphecy3B

A few years ago we went into great detail of the four names of Jesus listed in verse 6 above (those in bold).
Here are those four posts (click on each title to view the entire post):

December 15 - Mini Advent Calendar

AdventMini

December 15 - Miniature Advent Calendar

Welcome to Advent Season 2024!!  Advent is the season that begins the celebration of Jesus' coming to earth.  The word "Advent" is derived from the Latin word "adventus" which means "coming".  During Advent, Christians celebrate the birth of the Messiah Jesus but it is also a time to prepare for the second coming of Christ.

Every year I feature a different Advent calendar and I've been doing this since 2016.  This year, I am actually featuring two different calendars.  I originally had planned on only showcasing one but then my dearest Aunt gave me a mini Advent Calendar in the form of a card!!!!  It's so cute - I couldn't resist featuring this one also. (I will post the Mini Advent Calendar at midnight each evening and then the second one at noon each day until Christmas Eve)
(click HERE to view Day#14 of the "Jesus is the Lighthouse" Advent Calendar)

Now, everything on this card does not focus on the birth of Jesus Christ but I have transformed it to be completely Christian by including a Bible verse each day - I'm calling it:
"The Importance of Small Things"

In the picture below I placed a nickle on the card/calendar so that you will be able to gauge the actual smallness of the card:

A few small birds

Recently we studied about Noah & the Ark (and the Flood) - remember that it was a small animal (a dove) who was able to show Noah that the waters were receding when the dove brought back an olive leaf.

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #5 - MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

SundayFrequency5

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #5 - INSTRUMENTS

This is part 5 in the series on "Energy, Frequency & Vibration."  Since it is so close to Christmas, and music is such a large part of the Christmas holiday, I decided to continue in this series on back-to-back Sundays.  Last week we focused on "Singing" and today the topic is MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.

The most important part of our lesson today is to realize that music can be used for evil.  Our Heavenly Father's energy, frequency & vibration can benefit us only when songs that glorify Him are performed.
Usually these instruments were played along side singing voices.

Below is a diagram showing a few of the types of instruments that were used during Biblical times:

SundayFrequency5C

It says in Psalm 100 to make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord.  Praising our Heavenly Father using any kind of instrument resonates and spreads His power to anyone listening.
Read the wonderful Bible passage below:

SundayFrequency5E

Worshiping our Creator through music comes from deep down in our soul.  Look at the Bible verse below - "played music with ALL THEIR MIGHT."  What a wonderful description!!!  That is true worship.

SundayFrequency5F

Below, in Daniel chapter 3 we see how instrumental music was used for evil.  King Nebuchadnezzar used his blasphemous music as a call for all of his people to bow down and worship his idols.  The energy, frequency and vibration coming from that music would have been harmful because our Heavenly Father's power would NEVER resonate from that type of music.
I recommend reading the entire chapter 3 - we learn how Shadrach, Meshach & Abed-Nego refused to bow down and worship the idols.  They were thrown into the fire but survived because God sent protection!!! (some Bible scholars believe God sent an angel to protect them while they were in the fire but other scholars believe it was Jesus down there with them in the fire protecting them.  I personally believe it was Jesus).

SundayFrequency5A

I believe that much (if not all) of the modern, secular music today is evil and resonates harm to those who listen.
When musical instruments are played in God glorifying music, then positive & beneficial frequencies will resonate.

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #4 - SINGING

SundayFrequency4

Energy, Frequency & Vibration #4 - SINGING

This is part 4 in the series on "Energy, Frequency & Vibration."  Last time we focused on "Music" in general but today and next Sunday we will be going into more detail.  I split Music into two subcategories: Singing & Instruments.  The Bible is absolutely full of verses about singing (which is what we will be studying today and next week we will focus on instruments).  Today the topic is SINGING.

Let's start with a few more definitions:

Singing - to produce musical tones by means of the voice

Tone - a sound of definite pitch & vibration

Hymns - songs of praise or joy to God

Praise - to glorify God

Song - a short musical composition of words and music

When we sing "psalms, hymns & spiritual songs" we are using the frequency, energy & vibration from both God's Word and from Music (see verses below from the last post in this series).

SundayFrequency3B
SundayFrequency3C

Our Heavenly Father spoke everything into existence - His Word is power.  When we sing about Him or quote His words then we are resonating His energy, frequency & vibrations.

SundayFrequency4B

The verse above was put into a song or hymn.   Here is a version of that beautiful song (YouTube video):

A special thanks to Cedarmont Kids for sharing this on YouTube

Glorifying God through song is satisfying (see verse below):

SundayFrequency4D

The Bible verse collage below is just a very small portion of the vast amount of times that "sing to the Lord" appears in God's Word:

SundayFrequency4E

We are not all gifted with a good singing voice but God's powerful energy, frequency & vibration will resonate to those listening to the singing.  It's not just the singers who benefit from singing songs that glorify our Heavenly Father.
