Christian Camp Songs & Chorus Hymns #35

Christian Camp Songs & Chorus Hymns #35

I spent many years in my late teens and early twenties working at Christian Camps.  I even met my husband at a Christian camp.  These wonderful memories of great experiences make Christian camp songs very special to me.

On top of featuring an old hymn each month in what I call "Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing" - I will also be featuring a chorus hymn every month - ENJOY!
Today's featured song is "Morning Has Broken" - by Eleanor Farjeon.

This song reminded me of something that one of the pastors from my childhood church used to say every Sunday:
"This is the day that the Lord has made - Let us rejoice and be glad in it!"

".......but rejoicing comes in the morning."
Psalm 30:5

"See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
    is heard in our land."
Song of Songs 2:11-12

I have included a YouTube video of this wonderful song (see below the lyrics)
ENJOY!
Morning Has Broken
Words by Eleanor Farjeon                                         Gaelic Melody

1.  Morning has broken Like the first morning, Blackbird has spoken Like the first bird;  Praise for the singing, Praise for the morning, Praise for them springing Fresh from the Word!

2.  Sweet the rain's newfall, Sunlit from heaven, Like the first dewfall On the first grass;  Praise for the sweetness Of the wet garden, Sprung in completeness Where His feet pass.

3.  Mine is the sunlight!  Mine is the morning, Born of the one light Eden saw play;  Praise with elation, Praise every morning, God's recreation Of the new day.

Features From The Toledo Museum of Art - FLEMISH#2

Features From My Visit to: The Toledo Museum of Art - FLEMISH#2

TMA (Toledo Museum of Art) is one of my favorite places in Toledo, Ohio.  I first visited this beautiful museum when I was in high school in Canada.  I grew up in the Windsor area and I was privileged to go to a high school with an advanced art program.  We actually visited the TMA twice throughout my high school career.  I had no idea when I was a teenager that I would actually marry an American and then settle in the Toledo area!  I now visit my favorite museum once a year.

I will be featuring a few pieces from the TMA each month.

“Landscape with Christ and the Woman of Canaan”
(Oil on canvas)
By Francisque Millet (Franco-Flemish 1642-1679)

I thought it was appropriate to showcase a painting showing something from Jesus' life, since Easter will soon be here.

This artist had an unusual technique of combining classical architecture with stories from the Bible, therefore making the scenery more of the focal point.  Personally, I would prefer this painting if the architecture was not included at all.

The following is copied from the Toledo Museum of Art website:
The story represented in this painting comes from the Book of Matthew in the Bible. A woman from the land of Canaan came up to Jesus while he was traveling with his apostles and asked for mercy for her daughter, who was “grievously vexed with a devil.” When the apostles tried to send the woman away because the Canaanites were not Jewish, Jesus stopped them and said to the woman, “It is not right to take the food of the children [of Israel] and throw it to the dogs.” She replied, “…even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.” Impressed by her faith, Jesus healed her daughter. .

Quoted from Scripture telling the encounter between Jesus and the woman from Canaan:

"Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.  A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment."
Matthew 15:21-28

Worship Wednesdays #13 - ALIVE IN THE RIVER
This is the thirteenth post in a series called "Worship Wednesdays".  In this series I will focus on one word, thought or lesson and I will feature a modern Christian song that relates to the focus of the day.
Click HERE to read the post from a couple weeks ago:
FOREVER LOVE

Let's begin by defining WORSHIP - the feeling or expression of adoration for a deity.  Adoration, love, devotion, adulation, glorify, exalt, praise.

There are many ways to worship God but in this series it will be through music.

“Seven times a day I praise you.”

Responding To An Apology

by Angie Ouellette-Tower for https://www.godsgrowinggarden.com/ photo SundayForgive2_zps46ssqmss.jpg

Responding To An Apology

Over the past couple months we have been studying how to hold each other accountable for our actions (click HERE to read "Accountability and Admonishment"), we have also been learning the difference between encouraging others and rebuking when they have sinned (click HERE to read "Encouragement vs Admonishment").  A couple weeks ago we talked about Knowing When To Walk Away (click HERE to read) and last week: When You Are The Confronted (click HERE to read).

Today we will focus on how to respond to an apology.

Nobody ever talks about how to accept an apology.  After all, forgiveness goes both ways: asking for forgiveness and actually forgiving.
The most important thing that we MUST do is FORGIVE (see verses above & below):

by Angie Ouellette-Tower for http://www.godsgrowinggarden.com/ photo SundayGrievances_zpsi4b4cefe.jpg

The following are three common mistakes that many of us make when somebody apologizes:

1.  Limiters
This is the kind of person that puts a limit on an offense, even if it's just a mistake and not an intentional sin.  The "three strikes and your out" mentality.  If we are to truly forgive as the Lord has forgiven us then that means there is no limit.  When someone apologizes say: "I forgive you" or "No problem" and then when that exact offense happens again say:  "I forgive you" or "No problem" - say this again and again and again........
"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?'  Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.' "
Matthew 18:21 & 22

2.  Grudgers
This type of response to an apology says that they forgive the offense at first but then they remember the wrongdoing and use it in the future.  They use your past offense as ammunition in future situations.  Of course, we are not going to be able to totally forget the past and what has been done to us but NOT using this wrongdoing against the offender in the future is basically the same thing as forgetting the sin.  God has forgotten our sins and we must do the same when we are wronged.
"For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."  Hebrews 8:12

3.  Mockers
This is the type of person that makes fun of you at first.  They might say things like: "are you really that clumsy?" or "What a big baby" or "Just think before doing" (well, as an example, if it's a mistake there is no thinking first - it's not intentional, it's just a mistake and we all make them).  This type of forgiveness is not sincere - it's not from the heart.  God never belittles.
"......forgive your brother from your heart."
Matthew 18:35

When responding to an apology: always be sincere, don't keep track of the offenses and never hold the wrongdoing against the offender in the future.

“A Rainbow Like You”
(Blown glass, acrylic, lighting, table, 2015)
By Katherine Gray (Canadian born)

It's officially Spring and when I saw this glass display (see pictures above) - I was reminded of the glorious floral colors of this season.

Below is a description/explanation taken from descriptive card beside the display:
"A Rainbow Like You" is both glass and light installation.  In this rainbow-hued work, Katherine Gray uses traditional blown vessels and theatrical lighting to express ideas about the transmission of light through another mode of glassmaking- stained glass.  Often found in houses of worship, light filtered through stained glass is usually transmitted from hight above the congregants seated below.  Gray seeks to reverse this action and it's implications, projecting light from below to create a rainbow as a colorful wall mural, evoking glass's ability to refract light into the color spectrum.

Gray is also commenting on the crowded display of glassware found in thrift stores today,
which gave greater visibility to the transparent and sometimes overlooked material that is as common to our everyday lives.  Each of the glasses that are placed chromatically on the clear glass table was blown by Gray and collectively represent various styles from the history of global glassmaking.

God gave us the rainbow after Noah and the flood:

"I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth"
Genesis 9:13
