God's Word - Is In Our Heart

SundayGodsWord1

God's Word - Is In Our Heart

Over the past few months the Holy Spirit has been guiding me to study what God says about God's word.  I know, reading that underlined statement doesn't really make sense.  Let me explain:  Christians often say "the Bible says this", or "the Bible says that."  Well, the Bible is NOT our Heavenly Father.  Yes, the Bible is God breathed but even Spirit-filled prophets are fallible.  The only perfect, infallible person was Jesus Christ.

I have decided to put the other three series on hold until March so that we can study God's word about God's word in depth for the remaining Sundays in February.

By now you're probably thinking: "how can she prove what God says about God's word when she's using the possibly fallible Bible?"  That is answered in this first Scripture.  What I have discovered is that God's word is actually stored inside of us!  Look at the verse below:

SundayGodsWord1a

Notice that God's word is revealed to us byway of the Holy Spirit -  because we are filled with "the Spirit of the living God."
And, notice that God's word is NOT written with ink!  But rather written inside of us, in our hearts.

The next passage details the many ways that we should be meditating and sharing God's word:

SundayGodsWord1b

I will list the many ways to meditate on God's word below:
- fix God's words in your hearts & minds
- tie them to your hands (through actions)
- bind them on your foreheads (our thoughts)
- teach God's word to your children
- talk about them when you are at home
- talk about them when you are walking
- talk about them at bedtime
- talk about them when you wake up
- hang God's word on your walls and gates

Another way of easily stating the theme of today's post is:
focus on our Heavenly Father ALL the time.

If God's words have been memorized and if a fallible human were to intentionally or unintentionally manipulate the written word of God (the Bible) -  then we will know what His word truly is because we've already filled our heart with His truth.
Also, the Holy Spirit will let you know when something is NOT from God.

A few years ago we studied Psalm 119 & the Hebrew alphabet in depth.  In the 8 verses about the Hebrew letter "Beth" we see that speaking God's words out loud is important.
We also studied God's spoken word in part#2 of the "Energy, Frequency & Vibration" series
(click HERE to read how powerful it is to speak God's words)

Let's speak God's words out loud everyday.

Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing #136

Welcome to the 136th Old Fashioned Sunday Hymn Sing!

I miss the old hymns that I remember from my childhood - there were no drums, no electric guitar and no mind numbing beat. It was just voices and maybe a piano or an organ. The choir led the congregation in singing - and the words of these hymns are poetic. I realize that there is a need for the modern "seeker oriented" worship music - but it is also necessary to have deeper songs (no offense intended to anyone who prefers the newer church songs).

I decided to have an "Old Fashion Sunday Hymn Sing" once a month on this blog.
I personally do NOT have a great singing voice - I used to play the guitar & piano but my voice is NOT an instrument. That's the great thing about this digital hymn sing, you can warble along without being embarrassed or without offending anyone else.

The hymns that we will be studying are taken from an old hymnal from a Baptist church that is no longer in existence - "The North American Hymnal" published in 1956 by "THE ROGER WILLIAMS PRESS"

I will also try to find a version of the featured hymn on "YouTube" to share with you each month.

Today's featured hymn is "I Sing the Praise of Love Unbounded" written by Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769).  There are two totally different author histories listed for Gerhard Tersteegen.  I won't go into detail about each history but both agree that he wrote over 100 hymns.

I have included a video below the lyrics.
Enjoy!

Turn with me to number 357 in your hymnals and let's sing:

I Sing the Praise of Love Unbounded
written by Gerhard Tersteegen (1697-1769) composed by Dimitri Bortniansky (1752-1825)
translated by R.A. John 1912

1. I sing the praise of love unbounded, Which God in Christ has shown toman;  I sing of love that hath been founded Ere yet the stars their courses ran;  The love that offers free salvation To sinful man of every nation.

2.  The love of God planned my salvation Before I saw the light of day, And took away the law's damnation Of him whose feet had gone astray;  God's love is mine, O blessed mortal!  It opens wide the heavenly portal.

3.   While life shall last, I'll sing the glory Of  Christ the Savior and His love;  With angel hosts I'll tell the story Of Christ, in Zion's home above;  God's love is mine, death cannot sever Me from that heart that loves forever.

A special thanks to "Old Christian Hymns" for sharing this with us!
