Poinsetta Embroidery on an 1860's Dress

A glorious 1860’s Civil War era gold silk moiré one piece dress. The silk moiré fabric has a changeable quality depending on the light reflection. The bodice is trimmed with white satin and beige silk fringe. The neck and armscyes are piped. The bodice has a front button closure. The skirt is decorated with braided white satin and large gold silk moiré flowers that are outlined with white satin. The back of the skirt has a draped panel that is edged with white satin and silk fringe. It is held in place with three silk moiré tabs. The skirt is lined with cotton and has a long back sweep. The dress comes with a separate belt. The dress is in very good and sturdy condition. There are no splits or holes in the fabric. There is mild underarm discoloration, some age discoloration on the side of the skirt near the waist that is hidden by the sleeve when the gown is displayed. There is one 2 ½ inch age mark on the side of the lower skirt. There are a few other very minor age marks. A breath-taking display dress and a wonderful treasure to add to a Civil War collection. A very Merry Christmas to you all! I wanted to share this one while I had a second (and to use the "but my blog!" excuse for a break from all the festivities! ;-) )given the lovely flower embroidery. It looks like a poinsettia to me but I think those became popular later.
