I Fell Asleep Amid The Flowers

So, today I was reading in an old Glamour mag and came across a new nail polish technique. I tried it out and loved the result. If you have some shimmer powder laying around, this is for you.

Pick out a nail polish color of your choice. Me? Revlon in 'Twinkled Pink'. Get a jar of shimmer powder and a makeup brush. I used some ancient Jane shimmer in 'Plutonium' from the early 2000's. What am I doing with ten year old shimmer powder? I. Have. No. Idea. I also used my Sonia Kashuk eye-shadow brush.

Paint two coats of polish on each nail. Dip the makeup brush in the shimmer powder and tap the brush over a nail. Repeat until you have each done. I blew my nails to get the excess shimmer powder off, then let dry for a bit. I topped with a clear coat. Hey-oh. It looks like a tiny pixie sprinkled fairy dust on my nails. You know the kind that live in buttercups? Those flowers that close up at night to house the fairies? No? Just me? O. Good.

Disclaimer: We do not have the best natural lighting in our home. My pictures never come out bright enough.  Grass is always greener.

NYE Disco Animals

I feel like I am still in vaca mode. I guess I technically am. New Year's Eve night is tomorrow. We are traveling to Memphis for Zoogma's Zoo Year's Eve party. It gets pretty rowdy. A musical stampede of sweaty people in animal costumes. Fun times. The thought of cleaning up and packing right now gives me a serious case of the "yawns." I've diagnosed myself. I just don't feel motivated to shake off my lazies.

Anydoubleshotofexpresso, I have always been obsessed with the 197o's fashion. From the bohemian glamour to the glittered out Studio 54 nights, it just appeals to me.

Cupcakes For Lyfe

My little fashion queen's first birthday was cupcake themed. As I was searching for anything and everything cupcake related, I came across a little DIY Christmas ornament. Obviously, they were cupcakes. So, I made these for the party favors.

Tadaa! Now, I did this all last year and didn't take photos of the process. I just can't justify getting into my craft closet and dragging all the supplies out, just to have a trail of snowflake confetti to vacuum up. Besides, it's late. I'm being a total Debbie Downs. I realize this. It is super easy and fun to make, though.

Cupcake Ornaments
2.5" Styrofoam Balls
Cupcake Liners
Artificial Snowflakes
Floral Berry Sprigs
White Craft Glue
Twine or Ribbon
Paint Brush
Hot Glue
Scissors
Paper Plates

-Pour some glue onto a paper plate. Pour the snowflakes on another plate. Using your brush, coat the top half of a Styrofoam ball with glue. Immediately dip it in the snowflakes to cover the glue. Let the top halves of the balls dry.

-After drying, run glue from the gun around the inside rim of a cupcake liner. Put the ball inside, snowflake side up, and gently press the cupcake liner around the base. Be careful because it will be hot. Let dry.

-Cut a berry sprig leaving the stem intact. Cut about a 4" long piece of twine. Dab hot glue onto the top of the cupcake and stick the twine ends into it by making a loop to hang. Push the berry on top of the twine and glue.

When In Doubt, Glitter It Out

Leaving Bear Creek Music Festival. My face is still full of metal. The music was incredible, the people were beautiful, and the memories are unforgettable. But, gosh, I'm ready to be home. I am tiiyyard.
