Encouraging Art Journal Page ► Majo

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, my crafty friends ♥

It's Majo here today with my last post for 2018 and I am sharing a couple of lovely stamps!

I created yet another Art Journal page with Distress Oxides and the wonderful encouraging sentiment.

I used the same technique I had introduced on one of my recent posts, i.e. here!

I stamped the
rose bush with the colours (Broken China and Worn Lipstick) I used on the background, just to give it a more interesting look.

After adding the "frame" with the stitching line from Plate 1459 I stamped the sentiment and added more prints of the rose bush with black Archival ink.

I used the following stamps:

20146 - Rose bush
19642 - Stitching line
20224 - Sentiment

All the best for the upcoming year 2019 for you

Delight in the Little Things by Cheetarah

Hi all, it's Cheetarah here with my last post as part of the DT this term. It has truly been a blast! I've got a little ATC to share made with wonderful stamps from VLVS! and watercolors. I have used this gorgeous Whimsical Star Girl in frame by Mary Vogel Lozinak as focal point. She is the perfect size for an ATC.

I started out by stamping her onto watercolor paper using Memento Tuxedo Black and colored her in with watercolors. I used different brands but started off the basic set colors from Sennelier which you can see on the right. I found that using watercolors to color a block stamp like this (where there is a lot of detail in the stamp) you can really make the image pop!

Here is a side by side of the stamped image and the water colored image next to it. What a transformation, right? A few tips to this technique: Make sure you work on thick (preferably a cotton blend) water color paper; Stamp your image lightly, let it dry completely before applying color and use a small #1 of #0 round brush for the details. Just let the water and color do it's magic!

I die cut the ATC with my nesting die and added some gold accents to it with a marker. Then stamped "Delight in the Little Things" on the top and bottom of the image.

I have put it in a protective sleeve and it's on a shelf above my desk as an inspiration card to remind me to delight in the little things as they matter most.

Stamps used:

As I said at the beginning, it's my last post for the DT this term, as next year I am doing a new studies so don't have much time for many other things, sadly. Designing for VLVS! this year past has absolutely been amazing, was honored to be a part of it! Hope you liked the projects I shared with you as much as I enjoyed making them.

With this I am wishing you all a wonderful 2018 with delightful cherished little moments filled with joy and happiness.

Best wishes!

Enchanted once again

I love anything to do with the Fairy Realm.

This card is again a celebration of a fairy and the enchantment of them.

Take a piece of watercolor paper, mix together blue and purple Watercolor paints
Wet the entire piece of paper and drop in the colors of paints and while the paint is wet, sprinkle salt in the wet salt.
Let it dry and then rub the salt off. Then stamp the images using any kind of dark black pigment ink. I find the pigment ink much darker
Embellish with some stickers (flowers are outline stickers) Color in with coloured pencils.
I just love to embellish cards.
Always remember to be enchanted by life, find wonderful moments to make you smile.

Moon Enchanted

HI! My project today is one of my favs, i made a whole card set which i will share my over my next few post.

The one today is

Pretty Moon and Fairy stamp, along with the Enchanted Stamp.

Here is the link to the "Fairy on Moon" and to "Enchanted".

The background was made using 140lb watercolour paper using ShinHan Tube Watercolous.

Using a wet brush cover the entire piece of paper, let it sit for just about 45 seconds and then dip your brush into the watercolour and begin dropping colour onto the paper. Letting the watercolour paints fluidly move and blend.
I then stamped my chosen stamps using Stazon Ink.
I then used my prisma coloured pencil to add shadows and colour to the card.

Honestly stamp art is easy, just have fun and play!

Enchanted

I think like everyone, I am ready for spring. I am ready for the gorgeous flowers that smile at me everyday.

I am one of those goddess women who believe in fairies and sparkles and smiles.

So when i came across this most awesome stamp I went literally all warm and fuzzy.

Yummy eh?

I created a couple of pretty cards.
My favorite this one.

And its super simple to make. The butterfly is an outline sticker. Place the outline sticker on a piece of watercolour paper.
Get out your favorite watercolours; twinkling H20's, Peerless Watercolour, Pencils etc.
Choose your favorite colours, using a brush wet the paper, and then start adding the colours, they will mix and blend together. Let it dry and then i used Prisma pencils to accent the butterfly.
Then i stamped "Enchanted"with a black dye ink, on a small piece of watercolour paper, and painted it to compliment the larger area.
Attach to a card and you have a lovely card.
Take care my art friends

Girls Weekend | Art Journaling & Dr. Who

This weekend I had a great opportunity to sit with my favorite arty girl and art journal while we had a marathon Dr. Who showing--love Netflix. My Fancy Pants is very much a SciFi fan and Dr. Who is among her favorites. She and I both were thrilled with the January release of stamps which included a T.A.R.D.I.S. [AKA Police Box]. I knew this would be perfect for lots of applications in my life including scrapbooking, cardmaking and journal pages.
I used a combination of Niji Pearlescent Watercolors and Derwent Inktense pencils to create my base  on Kraft Cardstock--this will be "tipped in" to my art journal at a latter date. While the base was drying, on a scrap of Black Cardstock I painted a coat of blue pearlescent paint. I then coated my stamp with the opal colored pearlescent paint and stamped on top of my cardstock scrap. This was set aside to dry and then trimmed. I love the look of dimension that is achieved with these paints and this stamp.
Miracle Tape was used to create my Chevron Tissue Tape and my antique paper sentiment. I hand-journaled about our girls weekend to finish off the page.

For this project :
Black and Kraft Cardstock
Tissue Paper and Book Paper remnants
Black Paris Trunk Ink
Niji Watercolors & Derwent Inktense

Summer Memories

Hi my art friends. I have an awesome ART journal page using a VIVA LAS VEGASTAMP

The stamp is called SURF SHACK.

Here is the stamp

First I stamped the image with clear embossing ink, and then embossed with a green and blue embossing powder.

One of my favorite mediums is watercolor. And i love love love twinking H2Os.
I created a lovely blue, teal and green watercolor background.

Simple eh? But the results are so pretty!

Then I added some journaling doodles using a black pen and a whiteout pen.

For the journaling part I wrote about one of my favorite summer memories.

Swimming in the ocean, watching the dolphins swimming in the distance.

Its fun to let yourself go and remember the moments that feed your soul. AND to find a stamp that helps with that process.

Art on!

Sunflowers Bring Two Times the Watercolor Fun!

It's FINALLY Friday!!! Welcome to Viva Las Vegastamps!!! Susan here with my bottom of the month post. Today I am sharing another quick and easy technique - watercoloring with your Ranger Distress Markers. Both are using supplies you already have on hand AND depending on your color palette, can give you the look and feel of any season.

I'm going to show you two variations on Kromecote glossy cardstock and also on a textured cardstock {similar to a watercolor paper}. The process is like this: color, mist with water, stamp...REPEAT.

SUPPLIES: You will need your Ranger Distress Markers, assorted VLVS rubber stamps, mister bottle with water, textured and  Kromecote cardstock, dye ink and an acrylic block.

Begin by selecting some colors and color directly to your stamp. I'm using "Tree Writing Collage" #18914 for my first background. I used four markers ranging from yellow to light brown. I colored entire stamp with markers starting with lightest color to darkest. This doesn't have to be perfect. After coloring, spritz stamp with water.

I know I've shared a watercolor technique before, but with different colors and stamps, you get a totally different look and feel. In the above photo, I have done the step above and stamped first on Kromecote {on left}, then remisted and applied to the textured cardstock {on right}. I did not reink - I just misted again with water before applying to second paper. **A TIP** keep remisting and stamping until all ink is used up - this saves you a step in cleaning off the unused ink...and you get a bunch of pretty backgrounds as a result. I heatset each and this is the result - two subtle watercolor effect backgrounds. On the Kromecote, it is much more muted and flowing, the textured cardstock more distressed from the texture of the paper.

Now for a VARIATION...

Now you want repeat the process - EXCEPT - this time, color directly onto your acrylic block. YES! On the acrylic block. I colored horizontally across the block in stripes using the same four colors, gradating from lightest on top to darkest on the bottom. This also doesn't have to be perfect. If there are areas exposed and/or not colored, this is GREAT, too. Have fun with it!

Before you stamp your paper, spritz with water and then use as a stamp and apply to paper. Above is the results of coloring on the acrylic block directly first to the Kromecote, then remisting with water and then applying to the textured cardstock. I reapplied ink and repeated process to try also on a section of vintage book paper.

I stamped the "Sunflowers" #9918 onto my papers with black dye ink and heatset. I gathered some paper scraps in the same color palette and a parchment card base. I layered everything and adhered with Miracle tape to my card base, popped up my torn textured sunflowers with 3D foam dots and added a Burlap Twine May Arts bow.

To finish off I stamped  "Thanks a Lot" #587 in the bottom corner with black dye ink. I added some subtle color detail to the flowers and leaves with my Ranger Distress Markers applied with a water brush. Quick and easy...and beautiful!

Presenting my Lovely Sunflower Card!!!

It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!

Linus will be out in a few weeks waiting for the Great Pumpkin!!!  It's almost 100 degrees here in St. Louis, and I wish fall would be coming soon.  Won't expect cooler weather until mid-November!!!!

VLVS gives one who does not draw a perfect image, many imaes to create with.  For this work of art, I used many VLVS images, Memento's ink in a few colors, and Twinkling H20's!  While this photo does not show the shimmer, this pumpkin patch has glorious autumn colors that twinkle in the light!

See the Shimmer!!!

VLVS Images:

15555 Large Pumpkin
18897 R.I.P. and Jack o'Lantern (grass only)
18917 Raven/Crow Small Right
18916 Raven/Crow Small Left

Note:  Watercolor brushes, paper towel, Memento Inks, and Twinkling H20's used.

1.  Creating the Stamped Pumpkins by Masking.  Use whatever material you use to mask the first pumpkin after stamping it.  I use low-tack film.  Maskoid, Post-It Notes, Clear Masking Products, can also be used .  Move the mask around as you need to in order to stamp 5 pumpkins.  Stamp in an orange ink.
Pumpkin with Masking Film On It

2.  Next, ink up just one part of the grass area of image 18897 and stamp grass in a light green.  Repeat stamping grass until you have it around the bottom on and below the pumpkins.  This is your base drawing for painting your pumpkins.

3.  Painting the Pumpkins and Grass.  I won't go into the whole shading talk but notice where the pumpkins overlap??  Where they overlap will be shaded darker.  This will "pop" forward the pumpkins or parts of pumpkins.  You may want to use a light orange-yellow or yellow on the areas that are very dimensional on the top of the pumpkin to give the roundness.  For the grass, the areas where one pumpkin is further back is in shadow.

Click on the picture to see a close up of what I am talking about when it comes to shading.  I used several colors of Twinks to create the shading, there is a coppery brown I used for both the stems and shadows.  Note:  If the colors start to mud because the cardstock is too wet, just take a piece of paper towel and blot.  This will pick up color and you can start again.  I have a heat tool handy to dry areas.

For the sky I wet the cardstock slightly (after the pumpkins were dried) to do a "wet on wet" technique.  The colors used were a blue-green and gold.  Randomly swipe colors with brush adding more gold towards the bottom by the pumpkins.  A tiny bit of yellow was added to the upper left sky as the sun is peaking in as it sets.

Gold is added to the grass to tie the colors in, add a lovely shimmer, and dimension.

4.  Overstamp the Watercolor Picture.  I call this "overstamp," where you stamp over other stamped images, background, or painted art.  Overstamp the gate near the bottom, the tiny left facing bird on the left pumpkin.  After the painting is cut and mounted, I stamped the right bird on the decorative paper.

If you find shading a challenge, just paint the pumpkins all orange and then mix a coppery or gold Twinkling H20's together on a palette and shade the darker areas.  Easy Peasy - viola' and done!

Coming up our Halloween Blog Hop!  I've got some ghoulish images from 2 new Halloween plates ready to scare the pants off of you!!! (Only joking ha ha)  Enjoy the fun and see some great ideas posted by our Design Team.

Loving my Viva Las Vegas-CHRISTMAStamps! in July!!!

Happy Monday and it's Christmas in July Viva Las Vegastamps!!! Susan here to share a project using Viva Las Vegastamps! and a technique using distress inks on Kromecote glossy cardstock. If you have been following what I've been up to on my blog, I have been making Christmas cards ALL YEAR and I was so excited to receive this stamp!

For the feature I am using my new favorite wood mounted Viva Las Vegastamps! Reindeer on Ball Fir #8884. It is GORGEOUS!!!

For the background I am using Face in Fir #17963 stamp.

Today I am going to use these two stamps and a watercolor spritz technique using Ranger Distress Inks stamped onto Kromecote glossy cardstock. First thing I've done is make a mask of my reindeer stamp by stamping onto a removable sticky back label paper and cut out desired shape.

**A NOTE** Be careful when handling Kromecoat. Your fingerprints will act as a resist to ink on this glossy surface.

I stamped deer image onto a piece of Kromecote using stone grey Staz-On ink then applied the mask over part of image I want to protect from background overstamping.

I applied Evergreen Bough, Mowed Lawn and Pine Needles
Distress Inks directly to Face in Fir #17963 stamp.

I blotted the ink away from the eyes and lips with a paper towel - I didn't want this section to show up when stamped. Then I spritzed stamp with even mist of water to blend colors. When stamped, this will give a watercolor effect.

I applied water spritzed stamp and blotted away excess liquid.

After watercolor spritz stamp technique has completely
dried, I gently remove the mask.

Using ink blending tool, I blended out the center of the image using the same green distress inks applied to stamp. This is a real quick and easy technique and the result is amazing!

I finished up the image by adding some gold touches using my Ranger Distress Markers applied using a water brush. I also added a little bling with my gelled hologram pen. I trimmed the image and double matted with a navy blue and teal cardstock - this made the blended greens "POP".

Presenting "Festive Holiday Deer" Card

Puzzled about holiday gifts?

I am certain I am not the only crazy crafter out there that gets to July and thinks "Oh, it's time to start holiday crafting!" During the month of July in my own crafty world I spend much of the month dedicated to holiday crafting--challenges, streams, scrapbooking, gifts and decorations. A few years back I began making 80-90% of my holiday gifts handmade only. My family and friends appreciate the time I spend on them and I adore spending the time giving of myself and my creativity to those I love.
So today I share with you these fun puzzles that I have made with a puzzle diecut, antique book paper, watercolors and my current favorite holiday stamps. I hope you enjoy them!

for this project you will need
