the joy of cooking #24 - bella italia & more

dedicated to the man who taught me how to cook

since i started the joy of cooking I wanted to have a show dedicated to the world's #1 cuisine - bella italia. I gathered quite a few tracks so that it was getting more and more difficult to chose the "right ones". 2 weeks ago i stopped looking for the perfect tracks and just made part one. more parts will follow in the future... For part one I decided to leave out some usual suspects as well as ignore the so called "Italo Disco". Instead I focussed almost only on songs that I discovered in record shops (except from 2 or 3 tracks) and I hope you'll enjoy it nevertheless....

cheers, Basso

PS.
If you like it a little more experimental "growing bin style" check out the show before.

it's #23 and it's called "lentil soup and heavy rain"
I recorded it on a day that was the fourth day of heavy and constant rain in a row and it went well with the lentil soup that i was cooking afterwards....

Baby Records rules

For E. & C.

Here's some high flyin' italian disco from 1979 ripped from a copy that was still sealed when I got it. Guessing from the instrumentation I expected Jazz Rock, but no no - it's Funk & Disco... Most of the tracks are really uptempo and I actually don't like uptempo disco, but the usual cheesy strings and crowds of backing girls are missing here - the sound is rather funky and I really like THAT. My #1 fave here is "Hey Lover" - a wonderful summer jam. Download instantly, put it on your ipod and get yourself some sunrays!

Or get your copy here. The prices for this gem have really gone down over the years. Cheers, Basso

Flowers for my pony

Here's a fresh rip of Ernesto Nicelli's Volume II from 1974 released on the italian Pony label that I recently aquired. A look at the back cover tells the experienced library collector* that it MIGHT hold some real nice tunes. And it does... Mr. Nicelli or one of his friends owns a Moog (or something with a similar sound) and another guy really knows how to treat his reduced drumset. Not to speak of the flutes and guitars. The outcome is cheesy - of course! And you don't have to miss the female choirs you know from the other dudes like Umiliani, etc... the only thing you're missing now is the link and that'll follow as soon as I cut the recording into pieces.
Cheers, Basso

PS. If anyone of you guys will be at the Utrecht fair this saturday. Let's have a beer!
And of course go there if you're near. Expect some beautiful music......
More info in the comments....

Banfi Sans Baffo

Galaxy My Dear was Banfi's first solo effort and on this one he is playing all instruments including various synthesizers, sequencers and a Farfisa Rythm Machine. The lp was released in 1978 on Red Record and was dedicated to "My Master, Klaus Schulze". This was the only record he recorded under the J.B. Banfi banner. The other 3 later records would be by 'Baffo' Banfi. But as you can see on the cover he is missing his baffo, so maybe that's why he looks so distraught.

Anima Latina

I am listening to a lot of italian music at the moment and I think I'm not alone........ I deeply dig most of Lucio Battisti's music and cannot decide which one's my favourite. It's this LP here from 1974 or "La Batteria, Il Contrabbasso, Eccetera " from 1976, which includes the celebrated "Il Veliero". I chose to post this one here......

(EDIT: almost 3 years later I know THIS IS MY FAVOURITE BATTISTI LP!)
