Texas Trip Part 2 / Wednesday Potpourri

Those of you who follow my site know I was in Texas visiting my Brother-In-Law and family. While I was there I decided to visit an artist friend of mine from Bastrop, Texas. Jo Castillo and her husband Gene met at a little cafe called Gracie's for lunch. Jo has a neat art blog and does a lot of work in pastels. I visited her studio and had a great time getting to know someone I have enjoyed meeting through my posts and her husband is such an interesting guy. Jo did a really nice write-up from my trip which can be seen here. She honored me with some refrigerator magnets of her work. You can get a feel for what a neat artist she is from them.
The town of Bastrop, the second oldest in Texas, is really neat. Jo showed me the downtown's old buildings which were really neat. If you click on the photos the one building is from 1883.
The photos for my Wednesday Potpourri are from my back yard. My boat caught the Sun and it melted it into a strip. New snow last night makes my boat look like it has a Mohawk style on top.
The deck is still piled high with snow with even more to come.
Do you want to check out another neat site. Rob from The South Florida Watershed Journal has an interesting post today about his theory on Punxsutawney Phil and the 6 more weeks of Winter. The Steelers did bring sunshine for three days to NE Ohio.

Texas Trip Part I

I just got back from a trip to Austin, Texas to visit my Brother-in-Law Gene and his family. Gene is fighting lung problems and has COPD and asthma. He is always on Oxygen at age 54.

Note the Steelers shirt even before the record breaking championship. You can make out the swelled and stitched lip in this shot. This is Gene's wife Edie and his Daughter Stephanie.
This is his daughter Annie who goes to Texas State and her boyfriend Andrew who attends Texas A&M.
Gene used to bow hunt and this is a nice Texas 8 point buck he shot.
His son Chris is the one who won the World Championship (you can see the winning photos here) in the 10 and under group from Round Rock, Texas called Mojo. He pitches, plays shortstop and hits really well.
We went to a practice one night, it was 40F and really cold with the wind. Note the size of my nephew as it relates to his teammates. The little guy in the purple won the MVP in the final championship game.

I stayed in Chris's room and this is just a taste of the trophies he has won. He is a three sport athlete.

I do hope you enjoyed meeting the Texas part of the family.
