Mwezi Desemba mwaka jana Raisi Bush alienda kuaga waIraq.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- For the war-beaten orphans of the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, this big old shoe fits.

A monument to a shoe thrown at former President Bush is unveiled at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.

A huge sculpture of the footwear hurled at President Bush in December during a trip to Iraq has been unveiled in a ceremony at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.

Assisted by children at the home, sculptor Laith al-Amiri erected a brown replica of one of the shoes hurled at Bush and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by journalist Muntadhir al-Zaidi during a press conference in Baghdad.

Al-Zaidi was jailed for his actions, and a trial is pending. But his angry gesture touched a defiant nerve throughout the Arab and Muslim world. He is regarded by many people as a hero. Demonstrators in December took to the streets in the Arab world and called for his release.

The shoe monument, made of fiberglass and coated with copper, consists of the shoe and a concrete base. The entire monument is 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) high. The shoe is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long and 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) wide.

The orphans helped al-Amiri build the $5,000 structure -- unveiled Tuesday -- in 15 days, said Faten Abdulqader al-Naseri, the orphanage director.

"Those orphans who helped the sculptor in building this monument were the victims of Bush's war," al-Naseri said. "The shoe monument is a gift to the next generation to remember the heroic action by the journalist."

"When the next generation sees the shoe monument, they will ask their parents about it," al-Naseri said.

"Then their parents will start talking about the hero Muntadhir al-Zaidi, who threw his shoe at George W. Bush during his unannounced farewell visit."

Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi leader toppled by the United States in 2003, was from the Tikrit region.

Al-Zaidi marked his 30th birthday in jail earlier this month. One of his brothers said he is "in good health and is being treated well."

Al-Zaidi's employer, TV network al-Baghdadia, keeps a picture of him at the top left side of the screen with a calendar showing the number of days he has spent in detention. The network has been calling for his release.

By tradition, throwing a shoe is the most insulting act in the Arab world.

Dr. Bill Frist anasema:

In my annual medical mission trips to Africa during the Bush administration, I saw the cost of treatment for HIV with life-saving antiretrovirals (ARVs) drop from $4,000 a year to $125. The number of Africans on ARVs jumped from 50,000 to 2.1 million.

na:

Our visits with villagers all over the country opened our eyes to how Bush's five-year, $1.2 billion effort to combat malaria has provided 4 million insecticide-treated bed nets and 7 million life-saving drug therapies to vulnerable people. Yes, George Bush the healer.

Rais Bush arushiwa Viatu

Jana Rais Bush, alienda kutembea Iraq kimya kimya bila kuaga hapa Marekani.

US, Tanzania Leaders Discuss Malaria
By Scott Stearns
White House
29 August 2008

U.S. President George Bush and Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete met Friday at the White House to talk about fighting malaria. VOA White House Correspondent Scott Stearns has the story.

President Bush's malaria initiative has reached some 25 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa over the last three years.

Nowhere has it had a more dramatic impact than on the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar, where insecticide-treated bed nets and indoor spraying have reduced malaria's incidence from about 20 percent of the population to just one percent.

Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, and President Kikwete thanked President Bush for America's help in curbing malaria on the island, as well as working to confront the disease on the mainland.

"Of course, our biggest challenge now with Zanzibar is how to sustain that success, because only [30 kilometers] away on the mainland, in Dar es Salaam, malaria is still there," he said. "So, if people go to Zanzibar with malaria, then the problem is there."

At least one million infants and children under five die from malaria each year in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Fighting the disease was a big focus of the president's trip to Africa earlier this year, when he met with President Kikwete at State House in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to reporters following their Oval Office meeting Friday, President Bush again thanked President Kikwete for his hospitality, and praised his determination to use foreign assistance wisely.

"I am confident in saying to the American people that your money is being spent wisely and compassionately in Tanzania, and a lot of it has to do with the leadership of the president," said the U.S. president. "He stood up and said, 'We've got a problem, and I'm going to take the lead.' And his government has been responsive to the needs of the people."

The president's malaria initiative is spending more than $1 billion over five years to cut malaria deaths by half in 15 African countries.

During their White House talks, President Bush and President Kikwete also discussed efforts to resolve political divisions in Zimbabwe and end the violence in Sudan's troubled Darfur region.

President Kikwete has been involved in both efforts in his role as the current chairman of the African Union.

Hali ya Maisha inazidi kuwa mbaya Marekani!

Great Depresssion Soup Kitchen 1933

Unajua hali umekuwa mbaya ukiona wazungu wanalamika.

We Tanzanians can be proud that our country is trustworthy when it comes to donated dollars. President Bush praised Tanzania for putting the money donated to battle AIDS to work in the country and save lives.

It's the largest deal under a Bush program that offers economic aid to countries that treat their people fairly, rule justly and root out corruption.

"I'll just put it bluntly, America doesn't want to spend money on people who steal the money from the people," Bush said. "We like dealing with honest people, and compassionate people. We want our money to go to help human condition and to lift human lives as well as fighting corruption in marketplace economies."

President Bush in Tanzania

From Michuzi Blog

2-17-08

American President George Bush arrived in Tanzania last evening to a rousing welcome at the airport and by Dar es Salaam residents, who had lined up the streets for more than five hours to catch just a glimpse of his motorcade.

His visibly thrilled host, President Jakaya Kikwete, and First Lady Salma Kikwete, received President Bush and his entourage at Julius Nyerere International Airport, where normal activity came to a standstill during the welcoming ceremony that took about an hour.

The entire Cabinet, including Vice-President Mohammed Shein, was at the airport as Mr Bush began his four-day State visit. Air Force One touched down at exactly 6.30pm.

Mr Bush was accompanied by First lady Laura Bush and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.
He was given a 21-gun salute and the National Anthems of the two countries played by members of the TPDF.

Later, President Bush, who was dressed in a navy blue suit, white shirt and red tie just like his host, inspected a guard of honour.

He also sampled Tanzanian culture as a variety of cultural troupes entertained him at the airport. The US President danced and hugged two dancers as he made his way to the motorcade, comprising specially airlifted Cadillac limousines that drove him to the city.

He arrived from Benin and will leave on Tuesday for Rwanda.

It was a show of might at the airport from the time the two-plane entourage arrived up to when the two-kilometre long motorcade sped to the city centre.

US and Tanzanian security personnel kept everything at the airport under check.

City residents who had gathered along the route from the airport were forced to trek long distances as daladalas were in short supply due to the closure of some roads as part of the security arrangements for the visiting American leader..
