Black and Jade

When I got into work this morning I had a bunch of emails from myself, sent around 1am.  I don't remember sending them but I'm glad I did as they reminded me of some deadlines I have to meet.  My conclusion - I do my best work when I am asleep.

Versatile

Remember this dress from the summer?  Here it is again worn as a blouse.  I almost wore it as a dress over the jeans (remember that trend?) but decided I the leopard shoes were edgy enough.

Roof Pig

Roof Pig is what mr. deathstar and I say whenever we are surprised at something . . . such as when I found this suit under my bed.  I have no idea why I kept it but it was clean and I needed a suit for court today so there you have it.

Big Brother Made Me Do It

Monday started like any other day.  I really had no intentions of buying yet another striped dress.        However, Amazon.com had different plans for my day.  Somehow their stalking technology keyed into the fact that 1. I wear a lot of striped dresses 2. I love a bargain and 3. I have a unused GC.   They put this dress on my homepage and well the rest is pretty obvious.

If you have $22 to spare I recommend checking out this dress.  I was worried that the lighter colored stripe at the waist would be unflattering but somehow it manages to give the illusion that I have a waist.  If you are between sizes - size up.

Lunch Date

I am having lunch today with three of my favorite women in the world; my aunt, my cousin, and my "niece" (technically my first cousin once removed if you are working on my biography).  The only things keeping today from being perfect are: my need to be at work before and after lunch and the fact that this dress is going to be VERY tight once I get done eating a few pounds of cheesecake.

No Tricks In My Pockets

I learned yesterday that posing with one hand on your hip is a sorority girl trick designed to make your arm look skinny.  Although 75% of my photos have me standing with one hand on my hip I promise that I was not trying to defraud you all into thinking I have skinny arms.   I just have no imagination.

Dress Code Violation

If my office had a dress code, I am pretty sure this dress might violate it.  I forgot that I had a client meeting and wore this because I am going out tonight.  I have a blazer with me (and, if I lose 10lbs in the next hour, matching pants) so I will not completely shame my profession.  One good thing about being a lawyer - the bar is pretty low.

Blue Tuesday

I was going to make some blue puns in this post (hence my holding of the "Bluebook") but I lost steam pretty much as soon as I took the photo.  Maybe tomorrow.

2 plus 2 equals meh

While I like each of the individual items I'm wearing, when I put them together it just didn't work.  Sadly this realization didn't occur to me until after I got to work.  Although I am so tired that I might not have changed even if I was still a home.

Reliable

I'm having a rough morning so it was relief to know I had this dress in my closet.  On its own it works for client meetings and with a blazer I can go to court later for a seminar.  If only everything in my life was this simple.

Compliments

In 1998 I had a coworker named Mike.  He was an underwriter, former Navy officer, and the kind of guy who probably wouldn't notice if you wore the same thing to the office 3 weeks in a row.  One day, however, Mike complimented my sweater.  It was so sincere and random that I still have that sweater today.

A similar thing happened with this dress.  Last year I was at a conference and a woman I didn't know came up to me and complimented me on this dress.  Although I would love this dress even without feedback, it adds to your confidence when you know there is at least one other human out there who likes what you are wearing.

Rut

I am in a bit of a fashion rut.  I blame more frequent court appearances but the truth is that even at home my outfits have become a bit repetitive and boring.

Hopefully the upcoming long weekend will clear my head and give me some sartorial inspiration.

Blazer + Dress = BFFs

This blazer and dress saw a lot of action individually last year (example 1, example 2) but they were never paired together until today.  Now I don't know if I'll be able to separate them.

TGIF

It is only 9am and I ready to go home and crawl into bed.  I wouldn't even have to change, because this skirt is absurdly comfortable.

Comfortably Tight

This weekend, my sister  and I discussed tight clothing.  She maintained that all tight clothing was uncomfortable, while I opined there was a distinction between tight clothes and clothes that were too tight.  This skirt is exhibit A. Tight but not too tight.  In fact it is quite comfortable.

Shaggy Shoe Story

A week ago I saw a girl wearing these shoes and was surprised to learn they were from Payless.  She swore they were comfortable and I decided I had to have them.  According to their website, they had them in stock in my size at the store around the corner from my office.  Pleased with my ability to plan ahead, I went there and tried them on.  They were fantastic but 1/2 a size too big.  They did not have the 1/2 size down in stock, so I went to other store in walking distance of my office.  And struck out.  I ended up ordering them on-line which, thanks to a coupon and the BOGO offer, meant I could order a second pair for about $10.  Which I did.

In summary, if you need a cute and comfortable pair of inexpensive wedge pumps, you should try Payless.  Although the reviews on the website mostly state they fit true to size, I needed to go down 1/2 a size.
