...well, except for his shield.
And maybe his heraldry.
And, you know, I plan to do freehand.
But I got three more models for the Haqqislam army I'm putting together...
...so this is done for the time being!
Mmm... looking over these photos and comparing them to yesterday, when I tightened up the blends on the shoulder pads they became a bit more blue than I would have liked. I washed the hammer just slightly with black, which I'm happy with, but the wash on the shoulder pads was perhaps a bit too much.
But I'm airbrushing red onto a model... no pictures of my version of her, just yet but she's front and center in this class pic:
Who said the women of New Islam can't have a bit of a manga flair?

Busting Out of the Rut
I was reading a John Constantine graphic novel this morning, and Epiphany told John it was good for him to hang out with someone younger because "You older guys can get caught in a rut."
That's been me, lately. Stuck in a rut. My normal habit for years now has been to paint or model daily, not to mention the whole blogging thing over the past three or so years. Last two months, not so much.
Anyway, with work lightening up and some local interest in a new game (Infinity), I'm forcing myself to put down the game controller or book and pick back up a paint brush.
Here's what I'm working on now - something unnecessary!
Not quite done here - there's nothing like taking a picture to make all the flaws on a model evident. I've got to tighten up the blends on the shoulder pads, for one thing, and of course I need to paint the Storm Shield. I'm planning some sort of heraldry for the chest plate, but I haven't decided what yet.
I mentioned unnecessary... I'm not actually playing the Brotherhood lately, and this model isn't necessary in the army I would run!
Anyway, off to work.

I played the Mighty Mighty Carlos and his (Vulkan) Imperial Fists... and I'm just saying, one day he should actually finish this army.

Feast of Blades: Not Enough Time! Gak!
Not even 48-hours ago, I found out I'd be able to attend the Feast of Blades after all.
Doh!
Ultimately, I just won't have time to complete the two additional Grey Hunters squads I'd like to have, so my army won't be quite as optimized as I'd like. Still, I worked hard these last two nights trying to make progress.
More pics after the jump!

Comic Asylum Tournament, Games 2 and 3
Here's the wrap up on the tournament the Card Pimp in question and I played in last Saturday. Seems like a lot longer than a week ago - these last five works days have been brutal.
Here's a current favorite unit; Scouts with plasma and knives and plasma and chains and plasma and combi. Plasma. What's not to love? In my opinion, plasma is the new melta; the game it is a'changing.

Tournament, Comic Asylum! Game One
The Card Pimp in Question and I went to last weekend's 1500 point Tournament at the Comic Asylum - by far my favorite out of town venue - and had an absolute blast! It was the weekend after I ran my own 1500 point event at Galaxy (which I have a lot to say about, once I get a copy of the breakdown) so I was itching to play.

Brotherhood Update: The Guard... Again
This is normally where Brent talks... and talks... and talks... and I'm like who cares? Look at the pictures and comment.

Brotherhood Update: The Guard
Okay, I'm getting some new Terminators prepared. I've compressed my initial base painting for the gold down to three different spray paints. It achieves the same effect much faster - and thinner - than the initial layering of paints over black primer.
Anyway.

Brotherhood Update: Painting Scouts
Ah, a day off to myself! Plus I feel good enough (translate that to, "Not wiped out," and, "My leg ain't hurting much,") to sit down a paint.
Here's the progress so far.

Battle Report: Brotherhood Vs Tyranids
Last weekend I played the Card Pimp in Question's new Nid army. I played a variation of the Brotherhood, testing the new Scouts and Hunter squads with Plasma. I also loaded two Fangs units - with reduced Missiles - in Rhinos, to test firing out of the hatch.

Brotherhood Update: Scouts and more Troops
I'm continuing to add to the Brotherhood, with the idea I'll be able to test and play practically every major build in the book... then I'll start on the units for the Brotherhood Shrikers or the Brotherhood Assault Angels or something.

Brotherhood... What, Hardboyz Now?
So here's the Brotherhood... but I no sooner finish than I'm back at it. This army is fun, but it doesn't have the necessary streamlining to compete at the highest levels. I need more options! My plan is to fill out the Grey Hunters to full 10-strong squads, then add more! More mech, more Troops, Thunder Wolves, and so on.
Hard Boyz is around the corner - I've got 500 more points to fill, minimum.

Goatboy Vs Brent, Extra Pics
Here are some extra photos from my game with Goatboy last weekend, so if you haven't seen the Video Battle Report over on Bell of Lost Souls... what are you waiting for?
I liked Goat's army a lot - it's really one of the few builds I've seen that I believe maximizes some of the most annoying characteristics of the book! |

Sunday, Oh Sund - Wait... What? It's Monday?
Here I am again, dropping an update in passing. The Rune Casters are as done as I have the time for; there's plenty of room for improvements and extras I want to add - like... you know, runes - but it's enough for now.

I Forgot the Recipe!
The discerning reader... scratch that.
You may have noticed... scratch that, too.
It's time for me to admit to you, the audience... scratch that. Crap.
Okay, let's try one more time.
I FORGOT THE RECIPE FOR BROTHERHOOD GOLD!
(There, I said it. Darn it all.)

Brotherhood Update: The Rune Priests
Okay, so I believe I've finished putting together all the models for my 2K Brotherhood list. It's a Loga... er.., Drogan? Hogan?
What the heck should I name my Counts-As Logan?
(Missing a Storm Bolter there, aren't you?)

Brotherhood Update: Troops on the Table, Part II
I'm finished putting together the 2nd Grey Hunters squad and all three Long Fangs. (I haven't put thought into suitable 'Brotherhood' versions of Space Wolf titles.)
Most of these are still on the paint stick, where they'll stay until the primary color has been applied, that is until they're all Brotherhood Gold; point is, it makes it difficult to take pictures! Also note there is still some minor fixes and mold lines to hit.
The overarching theme of the Brotherhood is that of disparate Warbands led by Champions. Each squad has its own unique look in the army; that's obvious if you compare this squad to the one I posted yesterday.
