It Was a Great Day for Quilts

Hello Everyone,

I love it when our customer's, our friends, bring in their quilts so we can see them finished or at the flimsy stage.  My last two workdays at the shop have been full of eye candy for me.

Chris finished her Country Charmer and it's now ready for the binding.  Well done!

Chris is a finisher.  She stuck with it and now she's going to have a beautiful quilt for Christmas.

Mary brought in all of the finished parts and pieces for The House on Edgewood Lane and I helped her pick out border and setting fabric.  I know Mary will bring it in for me to see when it's finished.  I can't wait!

Denise took my Heartfire class just last month and she has her flimsy finished.  I love her color palette.

It is so much fun for me to see the end results from classes I've taught or the patterns I've designed.  It is also just the best feeling to see our friends achieve a great sense of accomplishment.  Great job by everyone!  You made my day.

I'm off to In Between Stitches this morning to spend the day with my Sew'n Wild Oaks girls.  I'm anxious to see their projects.  I know I'm going to be blown away when I see their creativity.

Soon,
Lynn

Quilt Moving Day

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I stopped in at In Between Stitches to drop off a quilt and took a picture of Butterscotch Baskets in all its glory hanging at the front of the shop with the reproduction fabrics.  Stop on by for the March Madness Shop Hop and visit all of the stores in the hop.

Then I saw The House on Edgewood Lane hanging up for a repeat performance in the middle of the shop.  This pattern would be perfect using the new Wintergreen fabric line by Moda coming out this Spring.

First thing yesterday morning, Mr. Joe and I headed to San Jose to Prairie Queens Quilt Shop to drop off other quilts and I took a picture of Summer's Blush.  I'm teaching this quilt on May 4th at PQ. The information is HERE.

This version of Party in the Garden is now on display at Prairie Queens.
Her sister quilt Winterset is keeping her company.  This quilt would be great in the new Jo Morton blues along with Indigo Crossing by Minick & Simpson.

Buttonwood is also at Prairie Queens.  This is a fun, little quilt to make.

I also made an Americana version for the 4th of July.

It was fun having "the girls" at our home for a few weeks....but it was also time to move them on to other homes so they can work hard and earn their keep.

Today I'm going to work on my little 4-1/2" basket quilt for the Block of the Week.  These little baskets are so much fun but I'm 3 weeks behind!  I'll be selecting the fabrics for the last three weeks of the program at the shop when I work next Monday, so I need to get in high gear today and get caught up.

Have a great day quilting everyone.

Soon,
Lynn

A New Twist

Hello Everyone,

Here is a new twist for The House on Edgewood Lane....the center made into a beautiful Celtic Knot instead of a house.  It is gorgeous!

Mary is going to incorporate more maroon and dark greens into her blocks to really showcase the center section.  I can invision quilted baskets in the setting squares stitched in a darker thread.

Ida has quite a few of her blocks completed.

Her center section and applique flowers are coming together nicely.

You would never know Ida is new to applique.  She tackles the tiniest pieces with ease.

The "Tag Team" quilters, Mary and Ardeen had two tables filled with block section just waiting to be sewn together.  They've created enough components to make 56 blocks so they can each have a set for their quilts.

Ardeen's house construction is coming right along.  It will soon be 'move-in' ready.

As always, I love to see variations, new techniques and different interpretations of my patterns. There was a lot of creativity in the classroom at Prairie Queens!

I hope you get well soon Helen, we missed you yesterday.  Today I'll be at In Between Stitches for the Toyland Tree class.  I'll be showing a parade of Teddy Bears tomorrow if the girls did their homework!

Lynn

Works in Progress

Hello Everyone,

Lots of "Works in Progress" going on here at Sew'n Wild Oaks.  I worked on the Rocking Horse for the Toyland Tree class that I'm teaching tomorrow at In Between Stitches.  I'm having fun making mine on a white background this time around the block.

I also made three more blocks for Country Charmer.  This block is one of my favorites.

This block brightens up the mix.

This block adds a touch of Halloween!  Not sure if this one will make the final cut.....we'll see if it plays well with others.

I put three more weeks of fabric together for the Block of the Week program.  It is so much fun to have the whole shop at my disposal and select fabrics for the BOW.

I'm thinking about setting my blocks like this......maybe.  I can just picture some quilted baskets in the open areas.  This is very much a work in progress and is most likely to change at any second.

I'm off to Prairie Queens in San Jose this morning to teach the final segment of The House on Edgewood Lane.  I'm looking forward to seeing the progress since our last meeting.  I'm expecting to see lots of blocks and applique today.....no pressure girls!  This quilt was my first design.  I jumped off into the design world with this quilt and never looked back.  What a fun, wonderful journey I've had along the way.

Sew'n Wild Oaks Class is in Session

Hello Everyone,

The Sew'n Wild Oaks girls (A.K.A. Wild Women) met Tuesday at In Between Stitches.  I thought I would start off by showing you Paula's little flowers peeking over the fence. They are adorable!  The flowers are full of dimension and really bring life to the block.

Paula says she's the last one to the party for the Party in the Garden quilt.....but she's not.  She's making great progress.

My sister and pattern tester Gail is working on her Butterscotch Baskets quilt.  It is looking great!  She was a little hesitant when she attempted the baskets blocks.......no problem!  She made her HST eight at a time and they were perfect. Her input to the pattern directions are invaluable.

One block lead to another and another.......she's going to have it finished before the class takes place.  She won't need to take the class, she will be able to teach the class in March!

Evelynne finished her little bear for Toyland Tree.  I love her addition of the candy cane and I got a lesson in how to do cording.  It's perfect for the bear.

Kay made a Nostalgic Pillow for her Valentine's Day sweetheart.  She downloaded a free vintage Valentine image and printed it on Printed Treasures paper. So cute.

Kay is also making The House on Edgewood Lane. Pretty, pretty blocks will soon be surrounding her home.

Barbara finished her beautiful Nostalgic Christmas wallhanging.  She'll have it finished in plenty of time for Christmas and it's only February!

Barbara is also working on her Minglewood blocks from the BOM program.

Kathy's bear isn't going to be the headless Teddy much longer.....he'll be finished soon.

Isabelle made a delicious quiche for our lunch!  All natural ingredients and healthy.  Thank you Isabelle!

I brought in a spinach salad and we were all set for a day of quilting.

Well, you can see the girls have been working hard since we last met.  The 2nd Tuesday of the Month is always Sew'n Wild Oaks day at the shop.  Wish all of you could join us in our day together.

The House on Edgewood Lane Class Is In Session

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I was down in San Jose, CA at Prairie Queens quilt shop teaching The House on Edgewood Lane. This was my first time teaching at this shop, and I was very warmly received by everyone there.

Let me start by showing you what Ida created. This is Ida's first organized quilting class, but she has been quilting and sewing for quite some time. Ida's palette is full of rich reds and greens.

Her fabrics are close to my original version.

Ida is brand new to applique and she jumped right in and created her first beautiful flower.  I know it isn't easy working with tiny pieces, and she wasn't intimidated by the stiletto or hot iron and turned her fabric into beautiful petals.  You go girl!

This is Helen's wonderful collection of fabrics and she soon turned them into......

....these beautiful blocks.  She's going to make 14 pink and 14 blue blocks for her quilt.

We sat down together and she learned how to make little 1/2" hexies in no time at all.  We will be seeing these little flowers around Helen's house.  So cute!

Then there's Ardeen and Mary, the Tag-Team quilters.  In all my years of teaching, I've never seen anything like this dynamic duo.  They whipped out their Thangles papers and started in on the half-square-triangles.  They have a pile of them ready to be sewn.  Mary's sewing machine is set to the speed of light and off she goes!

They were cutting fabric, sharing fabric, sewing fabric, arranging and re-arranging, then previewing their creations.

The design wall is so good to preview blocks.  Now which way should they put the pink and white bars?

Collectively they made a pile of bars for their blocks.

They each have another whole bag of fabric to make more House on Edgewood Lanes.  They are going to have their own subdivision by the time they are finished!

The girls have their homework assignments for the next few weeks.  By the time we meet at the end of the month, I know we'll be seeing some real beauties coming out of this class......quilts and the girls!

Soon,
Lynn

The House on Edgewood Lane Class

Hello Everyone,

It's almost time for The House on Edgewood Lane class.  I'll be teaching the class at Prairie Queens Quilt Shop in San Jose, CA on Feb. 2 & Feb. 23rd.  For class information you can click HERE

This quilt holds a very special place in my heart.  It was my first pattern.  My first real design that I actually sold!  This was also the first house that I remember living in as a child on Edgewood Lane in Paradise, California.  A house surrounded by love.  This was the first time I used a flange too.

I was an absolute nervous wreck quilting on this red fabric.  My quilting was very visible and it scared me to death.  I'm glad to be over that hurdle now.....but it took several more quilts to get comfortable.

I've thought about making another one and put some fat quarters together.

My friend Kathy made one with blue as the predominant color.  It is gorgeous!  She pulled her scraps together beautifully.

Perfect border fabric with matching binding and inner border.

I have a couple of openings in the class and would love to have some of you join me that live in the San Jose area.  We'll have a good time making our House on Edgewood Lane together.

Soon,
Lynn
