The Quilters of Snowflake Lodge

Hello Everyone,

 

I've officially run out of adjectives to describe the last three days at my Sew'n Wild Oaks retreat at Snowflake Lodge.  In a nutshell, I wouldn't have changed a thing!  It was perfect, and the bar is set very high and will be hard to top next year. 

 

This group of ladies is responsible for bringing joy, and beauty to the world. Each and everyone of them is a treasure, and I feel so lucky to have them as friends.  The girls filled the room with laughter, fellowship, and exquisite quilting projects!  They are holding just a small representation of what they completed during the retreat.

 

Kathy is making Lisa Norton's Under the Oaks pattern.

Several of the girls were making baskets for Once Upon a Vine.

Patti was in mass production flying geese mode.  The real geese were with us everyday just outside the classroom area. 

Evelynne is adding to her pile of blocks for Summer's Blush.

Nancie was preparing lots of applique pieces.

Laurie's even blanket stitches were true perfection.

As soon as Melody finished her Harvest of Hope, she immediately started in on another project from a class that she took at In Between Stitches.

Here's another block from my Country Corners BOM program.

Martha made a ton of HST and had fun arranging and rearranging them.

What a difference it made to place the blocks on point.  We gathered around the design wall and discussed the colors of setting squares and setting triangles.  It was a great teaching moment.

More cute, little 6-1/2" baskets!  Three of the girls were working with kits that I put together for the pattern.  I love them!

 

Christmas was in the air with the Nostalgic Pillows and Quilt blocks.

 

 

Some of the shirts the girls wore were so funny.  It's hunting season here in the mountains.

 

Some of the girls took one last walk around the lake before lunch.

 



We said our goodbyes to Snowflake Lodge and each other.  Many new friendships were made over the past four days, and many happy memories were added to our lives. Thank you all, from the excellent staff at the Lodge who made our visit as perfect as it could be. To you, my Sew'n Wild Oaks girls.......you make this world a better place.

Triple Header

Hello Everyone,

Our day started out with a fireside chat with Irene and Paula.  The temperature outside was a crisp 46 degrees, but there was a lot of warmth among friends inside our retreat location.

Look at this cute little paper-pieced houses by Nancy and her friends!  Love them.

Here are Laurel's very precise blocks from Patchwork Party.

More on this Under the Oaks pattern tomorrow.....Kathy had is together by the end of the day.

Melody got the last borders sewn on her Harvest of Hope.  This is going to be an heirloom.  Two Harvest of Hope quilts were finished this week at the retreat.

Jean is working on a Kim Diehl pattern called Laundry Day.  Love the colors!

Barbara is making these gorgeous blocks.  I think she has six of them all sewn together.

Laurie is hand quilting her wonderful Antique Sampler quilt.  Amazing!  Another heirloom quilt.

Gail and Irene are checking out all of the blocks on the design wall.

Evelynne is making several blocks for Winter's Warmth.  Most of the pinwheels are finished and she's adding the flying geese.

 

 

Speaking of flying geese.......this flock was right outside the windows for most of the afternoon.

 



Judy is churning out one gorgeous Country Charmer block after another!

 

Jeanne had 14 baskets blocks finished by the end of the day for Once Upon a Vine.

 



Shellie is working on her Country Corners with some wonderful variations.

The girls enjoyed their afternoon walk around the lake.  The trees were beautiful and so are those "nuts" under them!

 

Here I am with my sister Gail.  For those of you that read my blog......I still owe her a cookie!

 



It was an extremely productive day at the Sew'n Wild Oaks retreat at Snowflake Lodge.  These girls are THE best!  We've had such a fabulous time together.  I teach in the morning and they sew, sew, sew all afternoon and well into the evening.

We had three TV's where we watched our Giants win the World Series!  I think our hooping and hollering frightened every animal out of the woods!  The girls provided delicious appetizers every night before dinner. 

 

 

I titled this post "Triple Header".....here's why:

 

First ........ it was a fabulous day at the retreat.  The weather, the food, the companionship couldn't have been better.

 

Second .......Our Giants won the World Series

 

Third.........My Emilie Elizabeth quilt was featured at Quilt Market in Houston on the Marcus Brothers blog!

 

What a day.

P.S. I'm sorry you had to miss the retreat Rita.  I missed seeing your sweet smile and gentle nature.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

The Retreating Quilters

Hello Everyone,

What a day.....what a fabulous day we had at Snowflake Lodge for my Sew'n Wild Oaks 2nd annual quilting retreat.  The following pictures are just a small sample of the creativity in the room.

I promise to take more pictures tomorrow.

It does seem that quilting and eating go hand in hand.  After a great Caesar Salad and homemade bread for lunch.........

.....a few of the girls headed out for a stroll around Snowflake Lake, and enjoyed the glorious, Autumn afternoon.

Laurie and Nancie enjoyed soaking up the sun while looking at the view from the deck.

 

Melody led the group in our own 7th inning stretch to get loose before the game.

 



At 5:07pm......the room cleared for the first pitch of the World Series.

 

A few of us dressed in orange and black to support the Giants.  Laurie put on her rally cap, but our enthusiasm wasn't enough for our team to win.......maybe tonight our cheering and support will be felt all the way to Kansas City.

This picture captures the essence of our day.  Peaceful, ripples of laughter, tranquil,  colorful, a day filled with beauty and beautiful people, all with a common quilting bond.  Memories are in the making.
