Contemporary Christmas Card-A Compilation of Old and New Tim Holtz Products

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2018/12/contemporary-christmas-card-compilation.html Contemporary Christmas Card Plaid & Nordic Retro Merry Christmas Funky Festive 1

Hello! I hope you are enjoying this wonderful Advent season! I have a simple (and I mean SIMPLE) Christmas card to share with you. This one marries some of Tim Holtz older releases as well as the newly released Funky Festive Thinlits dies.

The 'Christmas' die cut is left over from this card using the Retro Merry Christmas Thinlits die set. All I had to do was cut the included 'Merry' out of Metallic Kraft Stock.

I  colored a scrap of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock with Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide to cut greens from the Funky Festive set and added a few Holiday greens I had on my worktop. The bow  (Funky Festive) was also cut from metallic card.

The black card was stamped with the Nordic stamp (Plaid & Nordic) using more Cracked Pistachio oxide ink. I tap the stamp with the ink pad and spritz the stamp lightly with water before making the impression. This was mounted on a panel of Metallic silver and all the die cuts were adhered with Distress Collage Medium Matte.

I'll have a few more cards to share with you, and then I will take a few weeks off from blogging to celebrate Christmas with my family

Merry Christmas!

Assemblage Clock -- 'Tis the Season For Gift Giving For Frilly and Funkie

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2018/11/assemblage-clock-tis-season-for-gift.html Assemblage Clock with Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous, Sizzix Alterations Ideaology and Distress 1

Hello and welcome! Our current theme at Frilly and Funkie is Tis the Season For Gift Giving chosen by our super talented and creative teammate, Maggi. Today the Funkie side of the team is presenting their inspiration for this theme, and my share is a Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock I made for my family. When the clocks were readily available in our local craft stores, I bought three, knowing I would decorate them for my family over the next years. Three is enough to be considered a collection.

Here is what Maggi says about her challenge theme: Because it's that time of the year when we're all thinking about the perfect gift for our friends and families, let's combine our crafting passion with our "to do" list by creating a vintage or shabby chic gift for a special someone in your life. Your gift could be as simple as a handmade card or tag, or an elaborate piece of home decor. Maybe you like to place your gifts in handmade boxes? Your imagination is the only limit on this challenge!

Please stop by Frilly and Funkie to see the gifts my talented Frilly and Funkie teammates have created for that special someone. Hopefully you'll be tempted to create a gift and play along!  As always, the Design Team will choose their top four favorites, with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest Designer spot at Frilly and Funkie, and the next three will receive Top 3 badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Let's start with some of elements and how these were made:

The Salvaged Snowman is colored with Distress Markers and Crayons and coated with Distress Collage Medium Matte. While still wet, I spooned on Distress Clear Rock Candy Dry Glitter. The clock was disassembled and all of the pieces were covered with 2 coats of gesso. I applied Forest Collage Paper to the clock itself with Vintage Collage Medium and colored with Distress Crayons.

The inside of the back of the clock is colored with Distress oxides and ink in blues and stamped with Watering Can Archival ink using the pine from Tim Holtz Great Outdoors set.

The wonky pines from Merry Moose and Home For the Holidays Thinlits are colored with oxides, smeared with Distress Grit Paste and sprinkled with glitter. The snowdrifts are also from Home For the Holidays, smeared with Grit paste and glittered.

I couldn't resist giving a little texture to the trunks with Distress Crazing.

I cut a circle free hand from the snowy acetate sheet from Tim's Christmas Paper Stash, and layered my drifts and tree on it, using adhesive foam to add dimension. The wonky trees were adhered to the backing, all using collage medium. This stuff makes anything stick!

I extended the tree line on the sides of the clock's interior by using the same colors in Distress paint and stamping additional tree images. I was just tickled pink that 'Christ' appeared so prominently when I applied the collage paper, totally unintentionally by me. It should remind us that Jesus Christ was born on this holy day and to be sure to put Christ in Christmas. It prompted me to tear out the words 'family' and 'beautiful' from the paper and adhere them to the rim of the clock, too.

Next comes the tricky part of assembling everything within the clock. First all the parts must be put back on.  After determining where my snowman would sit, I smeared some light texture paste at the base near the front of the clock and sprinkled it with Distress glitter. The snowy acetate panel came next, held in place with blocks of foam. You can see where I added some chunky glitter to cover some of the foam in the photo directly above. The glitter was a generous gift from my good friend, Autumn last Christmas. Thank you, Autumn! I replaced the back panel of the clock and settled my snowman. Notice I did not replace the glass panel. It creates too much of a reflection and makes it difficult to view the scene. As it is, the acetate panel makes it challenging to photograph the snowy panel in the back, but in real life does not hinder viewing.

And lastly, the fun part of embellishing the exterior. I used Holiday Greens Mini, Festive Greens, and Funky Festive Thinlits to cut from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, Metallic Kraft Stock and water color paper. I actually combined poinsettias from both the Festive Greens and Funky Festive sets to make mine, and I embossed them with the Textured Poinsettia Texture Fade. Everything was colored with Distress inks and oxide inks.

I stamped Plain Collage Paper with the sheet music stamp from Music and Advert to adhere to the bells, and added color with various Distress Crayons. All of the accessories like the feet, the knobs, the clapper and handle were colored with Picket Fence Distress paint and Mushroom alcohol ink before assembling.

I hope my family is going to enjoy another clock to add to the collection. You can see my other two clocks HERE and HERE. In the past, I've used little vintage figures to put into my scenes, so I was excited to make the Salvaged Santa look vintage for this year's make. Happy crafting!

Hugs and Blessings!
