Indra notched his 200th and 201th S-league goals

It has taken a while and he may have done it two games earlier - against TPUFC - but it is forgotten now as one of Singapore top marksman of the past decade notch his 200th S-league goals.

And it mark a good birthday present for the SAFFC forward with his birthday falling 3 days earlier on March 5th.

The 32-year-old also got his 201th goal so he has an 'easier' job of getting another 99 more goals to get to his next century.

For now, it will be all about his 200th S-league goals and even the 5-0 thrashing handed against Woodlands Wellington - Mislav Karoglan got a brace and Ivan Jerkovic scored as well - paled into insignificance.

Since 2003, when Indra got his 100th S-league goals against Balestier Khalsa, it was a matter of when he will reach his next century and now we can put the former Lions skipper name alongside the likes of Egmar Goncalves, Mirko Grabovac and of course Aleksandar Duric in having reach the figure 200.

Well done to Indra as his commitment and desire enable to achieve that goal especially when one considered the setbacks he suffered since 2006.

So Congratulations and happy birthday, Indra Sahdan Daud!

The last word

This is not the last word on the blog but on the Duric goal tally as do not want any debate on it as disagreement over data is not an uncommon issue.

The focus should be on Duric achievement as judged by S-league but just want to say I stand by my data I have given as I have check it again and is satisfied.

After all, when Romário scored his 1000th goal, many media network question it tally from the type of games to whether such games were even played etc.

However, none of that matter in the end with the focus on Romário achievement.

Still hopefully one day, when they have the resource, S-league can start a Goal Panel.

The BPL, even with their love of data, had their share of controversy with goal tally before a Goal Panel was set up.

No point showed that more than Andy Cole 100th Premier League goal as a number of media network and statistic companies have different figures with a few of his goals considered own goal or have other claimant as BPL let each organisation have their own data.

Now, every goal has to be stamped by the Goal Panel before they are considered legitimate.

It saw Peter Crouch got a hat-trick in the BPL on a night when he was playing in the Club World Cup in Japan as the Goal Panel in UK stamp their approval by considering an 'own' goal as Peter Crouch.

Duric hit 300 domestic goals

Singapore international Aleksandar Duric has got his 300th domestic (Not S-league goals which do not include League Cup goals) goals after he scored a brace against Beijing Gouan (S) which saw the Stags ran away 5-2 winners.

Nevertheless, the Stags were indebted to Duric double as they came at crucial period of the game.

Up until Duric first goal of the game, the match was deadlock at 1-1 with Wang Hao and and Aliff Shafaein scoring for their respective teams.

Beijing keeper Su Boyang was also set to be man-of-the-match up to that point as he pulled off great saves from Kariul and Duric.

However, the 39-year-old exposed the Chinese custodian lacked of experience when he took advantage of a quick free kick to fire into an open net as
Su was still organising his defensive wall.

It gave the Stags a 2-1 lead which they went to build into a two-goal cushion as
Shahdan Sulaiman combined brilliantly with one-two movement with Duirc to open up the Beijing defence.

The returning
Shahdan then fired his shot into the top corner giving Su no chance.

By then, the Stags must have believed the game was over as they slowed the game down and started to make mistakes.
Teng Bin took advantage of one of them to fire the Chinese back into the game.

After that, the Chinese started to pile on the pressure and they nearly make it 3-3 before Duric step up again as his second of the night, and his 300th domestic goals, kill off the Chinese.

It was one that showcased why Duric have been so successfully over the last decade in the S-league and Asia as the forward used his physical presence to hold off the Chinese defender and find space to fire a shot that went into the net even as the keeper got a hand to it.

After that, Duric had a chance for a hat-trick but he passed up that chance to pass the ball to his striking partner Khariul Amri to bag the Stags fifth goal of the night.

It was a great night for the Stags; especially Duric who is now the first ever player to bag 300th domestic goals.

And he did it in style as he had also showcased his other abilities by setting two of the Stags goals showing his is not just goals but has other attributes as well.

To round off his brilliant night, the 39-year-old have also snatched away the Man-of-the-match away from Su Boyang showing the kind of desire and abilities that have keep him in the game for so long.

Stags go into YOG break as leader

Top spot is secure for Stags until YOG is over, as least.

It started when Aleksandar Duric slotted in his 11th goal and 298th domestic (Not S-league) goal

Now, the record goal scorer need two more to reach 300th goal and it looked more than a possibility with a min of 10 more games for Tampines Rovers.

But the resistance of the former champions SAFFC was only killed off when Khariul Amri slotted in the second from the spot.

With that result, Tampines Rovers has pulled four point clear of second Etoile FC so no matter what happen on Thursday, they cannot be overtaken before YOG finish at the end of August.

Duric a hat-trick away from 300 domestic goals as Stags go top

No Qiu Li. No problem for there is still S-league record goal scorer Aleksandar Duric for Tampines Rovers.

The 39-year-old show his value to the club with his 11th goal this campaign and now, he is only a hat-trick away from reaching 300 domestic goals.

At this rate, he could even be able to reach that target before Indra, who need only 1 more to reach 200 domestic goals, as the ex-Lions skipper is out injury after the Eagles match last night.

After all, Qiu Li will be out for a while, no matter what thus
Duric will be the Stags main goal source during this time and the club will be seeking to maximize it to aid their championship hopes.

The Stags next game is against Gombak United next Wednesday which will be telecast LIVE and it will be a good opportunity to get the hat-trick he need to reach 300 domestic goals.

Indra hit 199 as Warriors go on a rampage

It seem like old times again as Indra notched a goal while SAFFC go on a rampage.

After all, this is what happen in the domestic scene in years gone by with the Warriors a dominating force while Indra score goals for fun (for other clubs though)

But the new reality is it was Woodlands Wellington and this Northern club have suffered a thrashing in two of their last three outings and if they were hoping for a better outing at Jalan Besar, they counted their chickens wrongly.

That was why the 4-0 scoreline at the end for the Champions neither falter them nor tell us if the Warriors are back.

But it tell us Indra got his 199 domestic goals after a dry spell with his last goal back one month ago on June 1th against Geylang United.

Now he just need 1 more to reach 200th domestic goals and with the Warriors next opponent Home United, what better team to get that goal as this was the club where Indra got his 100th goal back in 2003 and they are the Warriors arch-rival.

It will be the perfect goal in the prefect setting as Home United former legend Egmar Goncalves knew it as he got his 100th S-league goals against SAFFC back in 2001 with four on the night.

In this match -against Woodlands Wellington - though, Park Tae Won got a brace with Hafiz Osman scoring one as well.

Tampines Rovers crushed Woodlands Wellington 5-0 to close the gap at the top to two points.

Aleksandar Duric open the scoring and to take his tally to 296 domestic goals and is within touching distance of 300 with less than half the season to go.
Qiu Li bag a brace with Benoit Croissant getting in the act while a returning Khairul Amri got his share as well.

Over the Weekend, Home United destroyed Geylang United 3-0 with a Shahril Ishak hat-trick.

It was the Singapore international first ever hat-trick in over 200 games he has participated in.

Indra hit 198 to end Eagles unbeaten league run

Former international Indra Sahdan is all set to become the fourth player to have his name added to the next level of 200 domestic goal list after he hit a brace against Geylang United at Bedok Stadium.

He has now 198 domestic goals and only Aleksandar Duric (295), Mirko Grabovac (244) and Egmar Goncalves (238) have hit more goals than the 32-year-old.

The Eagles must have hoped their former player - Indra played for them from 1997 until 2000 - would still be suffering from his recent dry spell with only 2 goals in his 10 outings in all competition.

Unfortunately, Indra hit just the right note to banish the Eagles to their second straight defeat after the Bedok side had been knocked out of the Singapore Cup last week.

It was also the end of the Eagles good run in the league where they have been undefeated since an April Fool defeat against Home United.

However, it may have never happen if not for Itimi Dickson dismissal with still 35 minutes to play for soon afterward the floodgate open as Mustaqim Manzur scored the opening goal.

Forced to get the equaliser, Indra hit his former club hard with two goals in 9 minutes to kill off the Eagles.

Eagles coach Mike Wong must be hoping it is only a blip in form and not the start of an avalanche of turnaround after the Eagles had enjoy a good, and some say fortunate, two months.

Indra goal not enough for Champions

It appear the end of the road for SAFFC this season as they failed to make up ground on leaders Tampines Rovers, who still lead them by 12 points.

This was despite a great start as Indra score in the Warriors first attack from the every start of the match. It was his first goal in 6 matches in all competition and, more importantly, it took the former international ever closer to 200 domestic goals.

He now need only four more goals to reach 200 domestic goals (but it will take four to reach the official S-league 200 as league Cup goals are not counted)

But for this match, it was as good as worthless thanks to defender Syaiful Iskandar, recruited from Woodlands Wellington, as he was a disaster for the Warriors in this important game in the league.

He not only failed to keep tab on Balestier Khalsa Brazilian Vitor Borges and thanks to two harsh challenges, he was send off as he picked up two yellow.

The Tigers will no doubt 'credit' this draw to him while Richard Bok 'curse' as there was still nearly 50 minutes to play when he was send off.

So despite playing much better than the Tigers for much of the match, the champions could only dream of what might have been as Anantha Rajan scored for the Tigers with two minutes to go.

Peres De Oliveira - Brazilian wizard

Nationality: Brazilian

D.O.B: 7 Nov 1974

Club: Home United (2001-2005, 2008-2010) Tampines Rovers (2006-2007)

Position: Midfielder/Forward

Honours
S-league: 2003
Singapore Cup: 2001, 2003, 2005
Player of the Year: 2003
Top Scorer of the Year: 2003
FAM-FAS Cup Champions Cup 2005

Player History

He was a Brazilian wizard and that is not even enough to describe one of the greatest players to grace the S-league but that is just no word in the vocabulary that can justify what this S-league legend has brought to the game.

Yet the way he, Peres De Oliveira, departed the S-league was, ironically, the same as he arrived. Quietly.

That year, in 2001, another Brazilian, Leandro, from Tampines and Thai, Kiatisuk Senamuang, from SAFFC were hogging all the limelight with nobody knowing the real gem was at Home United.

But this is the life story of Peres for with all his skill and abilities one has to ask how he had gone undetected by anyone connected by football thus plying his trade in one of Brazilian state league at the age of 26.

Luckily, a fellow Brazilian, at that point, noticed the massive talent of Peres and he knew, immediately, his club, and S-league, needed to get their hand on him.

That ‘scout’ was Egmar Gonclaves and S-league will be grateful to him - he is an S-league himself so what else can one say except another word of thank.

Peres may have arrived on the shore of Singapore quietly but he announced his arrival in fashion as in his every first S-league game, he will notched two goals – Both were beauty; especially the second one which was a rocket into the top corner from outside the area after dribbling past his defender – and had the commentator stating he was going to be a star.

It was no surprise then that by the end of the season, everybody knew who Peres was and what a talent Home United has recruited.

Afterall in 2001, alongside Egmar and Indra in a trio partnership, they will score a combined 71 goals in all competition and nearly brought the S-league title to Bishan.

But at the penultimate point of the season, the Protectors lost a pivotal game against archrival SAFFC at Bishan and it cost them dearly as it gave the Eagles the leadership from which they will go onto win the title.

As least, the Protectors will have their revenge in the Singapore Cup Final as they crushed Geylang United 8-0 and Peres has won his first medal of his S-league career.

In Asia that year, it was no different as the Brazilian will score a hat-trick in at Bishan to help Home United achieved history as they crushed Thai Royal Air Force 5-1 overall to be the first S-league side to not only beat Thai side but reach the quarter-final of an Asian club competition.

After such a good start, Peres will have a wobble second season as the Protectors saw the departure of Dutch coach Robert Albert and the arrival of Englishman Jason Withe and it was a disaster as the Englishman never got hold of which formation or even the first eleven he wanted to play.

Peres will suffer under that period as he was pushed out to the left and his attacking instinct was restricted by the new coach in charge.

The goals will dry up not only for the Brazilian but his partner in crime, Egmar and Indra, as well as Peres was not there in the middle to supply the assists.

With results not going the Protectors way and team morale in the dump under the Englishman, the management acted and, in a rare moment in Protectors history, they sacked Jason Withe in mid-season; showing how bad the situation was as Home United tends to let even ‘bad’ coaches finish their season.

It was a brilliant move though as another Englishman, Steve Darby, was appointed and the first thing he did was rebuild the partnership of Peres, Egmar and Indra.

The goals return to the Protectors and while it was too late to rescue the 2002 season, it set up Peres brilliantly for the next one.

Now released by Steve Darby, the, now, 29-year-old will played like he never play able and he was unplayable on the field in 2003 - the ball will stick to him like glue as he dribbles, every pass he makes find it target, every freekick he take find the top corner, every touch he make will lose his marker as though the defender was not there.

That was the form the wizard was in thus a League and Cup Double success at the end of it all was to be no surprise and alongside it was a top scorer award with 37 goals in 37 games.

No wonder his name was the only one mention that will win the Player of the Year and it turn out that way.

In 2004, Peres continued his remarkable form as Home United nearly achieved a Double Double but they ‘pay’ for their success in both S-league and Asia as this was the first year AFC started the group stage from the beginning and it meant a congested season thus a tired Home United, and Peres (He was nearly 30 already), allowed the Stags to sneak toward the Double.

However, the Protectors will have the consolation to know they make history again in Asia, thanks in part once again to their magician from Brazil, as they will, jointly with Geylang United, become the first teams from S-league to reach the semi-final stage of an Asian Club competition.

The Protectors also had the added glory of being the first S-league team to beat West Asian opponents in the second leg of the quarter-final with Peres setting up the equalizer and then going onto score the winner.

A cross from Fahmie Abdullah on the Home United left was met by Peres and won; with the header going across the box into the path of Egmar and the ex-Singapore international, in between two Olympic players caught in no-man-land, leap up to place a firm header into the net. After that, a freekick on the flank swing in by Fahmie caught Olympic Beirut players napping with three Protectors – Indra, Egmar and Peres – attacking it but only one Olympic defender was anywhere near them. Peres got to the ball first and dispatched it into the net.

After two great years in a row, it was always tough to match such expectations again and, with an aging team, Peres will find 2005 to be an ‘average’ season with just a Singapore Cup medal but he continue to make history (what else is new) as he notched his 100 S-league goals when he score the winner in a 3-2 win over Paya Lebar Punggol at Hougang.

Even up to the point of writing, he remains the only midfielder to have score 100 S-league goals and that showcase the remarkable feat he has achieve.

As 2005 ended though Peres will find himself moving East to join Tampines Rovers as the Protectors decided it was time for him to move on.

In the two years with Tampines Rovers, he was good but not great with 35 goals in 75 games in all competition. He could not fully adjust to the Stags playing style thus the time has come to move once again.

That where the shock came. The Protectors admitted they make a mistake to let Peres go two years earlier and now he was back with the club where he makes his name but, like his two years with the Stags, one has to admit he was not the evergreen Peres anymore as performances range from brilliant to average and injuries were not helping the Brazilian.

He continue to make a fight of it though as one of his last brilliant performance came in his final season (It should be 2009 and not 2010 where two games hardly register) against his former club Tampines Rovers at Tampines Stadium.

With the Protectors struggling for form, Peres will take it upon himself to achieve a brilliant 3-2 victory against the Stags with a hat-trick and one of the goal was a trademark freekick of his.

That show Peres still had it in him to change the destiny of a game by himself and few in the match can match him when he is on that form,

In 2010, the curtain came down on him in the S-league after he fell out with his new Korean coach but there will be no masking the destiny he has with Home United which is synonymous with Peres name in the S-league.

That why his departure of Home United will see the club struggling to find anybody half as great as him to fill the void he has left behind.

Peres De Oliveira – this will be a name that will never be forgotten when fans want to talk about Brazilians in the S-league.
