"Blooming" with coral and gold

Hello Friends…

Welcome to my page today. Today I am sharing my DT project for Rhedd’s Creative Spiritwhere the challenge every month is Anything Goes but altered art or Mixed Media only. Now that’s a big relief for a non card maker like me, lol!

I am still not done with my holiday hangover and remember I told you I have a lot of ideas running in my mind…today’s is just a sampler of that.

A style I love, techniques I enjoy and the color, TOTALLY NEW to me! I have worked with coral and gold this time going back in time to give a vintage beaten look to a wooden box.

This box again was gifted to me by a crafty friend on my birthday with an intention that I would alter it…I love such gifts! Thanks Tanvi…

I started by giving a coat of gesso to the box and then I went around applying candle wax to the edges and other places where I wanted the paint to peel.

I mixed a wee bit of abandoned coral distress paint to gesso and gave the outside of the box a coating. A little bit of this color gave me the lovely pastel shade that I wanted! Once dry, I used the TH sanding block to rub of the paint in all those area where I waxed. That gave the box the worn distressed look!

Time for texture…with some breezy fern leaves stencils from Color Box and texture paste. I applied old gold Inka gold on it and I could almost get the feel

of the leaves swaying in the wind! Some random text stamping with Bo Bunny..

The center of the lid had this interesting pattern on it, which I wanted to highlight. So applied Picket fence crackle paint and then walnut distress stain on the cracks.

The center resin picture frame is a handmade embellishment. I cut this blooming flower from DCWV botanical stack and mounted it to a light weight chip board. Then I made a faux frame for it with air dry clay which I twisted and stuck on all sides of the picture. This gave a raised level for me to pour the resin mixture.

I added a chit chat sticker and sprinkled some fine glitter giving the much needed time for the resin to set. Some inka gold on the twisted frame and Voila, my center faux picture frame was ready.

I have kept some coconut coir beneath the picture for some dimension and texture and decorated the circular ares with some champagne colored rhine stones!

For the base, I cut out old text papers and used the EK success punch to cut out this lovely flower lace. I inked the edges with Tea dye DI and had the lace on all side of the box. This added a few more years to the box…If all my projects could speak…the y would just say “keep me young” lol! So much for the love of Vintage and Distress…

Now, focusing on the front clasp of the box. I aged it more with dull gold Inka gold and then found this broken pendant in my stash which I thought would be a perfect add for the closure. It actually had some very colorful stones on it which, I dint like. I then added orange alcohol inks and then aged the gold here too. A little pearl dangling and this was ready.

I stained the inside of the box with Terracotta antiquing solution from Tsukineko. For the inside base, I lined it with old text papers and modge podged it. For the sides I used up paper from DCWV botanical stack which had some mildly stamped flowers on it!

I have decorated the inside with the quote for the day from Inkadinkado and a vintage flower made with TH tattered florals die, inked with abandoned coral, script stamped on the petals, misted, scrunched, dries, shaped, layered, inked the edges with walnut stain DI . The flower center had some twisted coir and a twine bow. Phew! All this for one single flower…but who’s complaining? Some die cuts ferns and flourish along with it highlights the quote.
