It's OWL Good!

Hellooooo...
Am back after a 2 month vacation...yes, it's been long and I couldn't wait to start off!
A new month and a new challenge at Rhedd's Creative Spirit...it's always "Anything Goes, Mixed media or altered art"!
Now we have new members in the team and there's lots of inspiration there, so visit the blog and play along!
This vacation saw me using my adult coloring book and I was skeptical to start coloring as I was not sure what I would do with the colored pages! Of course it was such a de stresser to color them, but what after that was a question!

Here is what I decided to so with one of the colored pages from the book! I had used Inktense blocks to colors them and it was quite vibrant. I also had blank piece of wood lying in my studio and here sparked the idea!
I took a laser print out of the colored page . The wood base was given a coat of chalk paint and then I applied the crackle medium few areas.

Once this was dry, I applied the top coat .
The owl was cut to shape and I used gel medium to adhere it face down on the base.
An overnight wait and then I started working on the image transfer. Rubbing the paper off and here is what the out come is!

I also fixed a piece of dark stained wood at the bottom with some "C" hooks.
Now this serves as a key holder...I love how a page from the coloring book now stands permanent on this block of wood!

I am quite excited that the colored page has more value now! What do you think...waiting to hear from you!

Remember to play along!

Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling.
Cheers!

Faux Wood bark!

Hello Crafters,
A warm welcome to all of you.  I love nature inspired challenges and this time for the challenge at Rhedd's Creative Spirit, I have one that screams nature!
The theme at Rhedd's is always Mixed media or altered art and here I am with another altered chocolate box!

Textures and techniques is something I love to work with and here's is what happened after my experiments!

I am not getting into the details of the making, let’s just jump start… READY TO WALK THE WOODS with me??
Here we go…
Firstly, created the bark texture on the wood with masking tape and homemade texture paste. The impatient wait over night was fruitful..lots of texture, cracks, grooves appeared! I gave it the wood color with acrylics.
Once happy, went hunting for the pic.I found this vintage pic of these girls and thought would be the perfect fit for the woods!

I used matt gel to embed the pic into the wood bark and started to work on the embellishment.
The lovely vintage butterfly is from the mariposa paper pack, I fuzzy cut it and applied Rock candy, Distress crackle paint and waiting for the magic cracks to appear!

It did…and I rubbed vintage photo into the cracks and it just aged beautifully…love it!

The flowers and leaves are all hand made using various dies and give a lovely feel to this box!

The inside of the box is lined with some pattern paper, lace and more flowers and some tiny tags too!

Well, that's your walk thru the woods, hope you had a good scroll and drop by at our blog to see the inspirations and don't forget to join in.

I am on a small break, vacation time here and will see at the other side of my holidays. Hope you all have a great time too.
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling,
Cheers

Faux palette and Faux leather mini album!

Hellooo...
It's the beginning of a new month and am ready to share my DT project for Rhedd's Creative Spirit for March! The theme as always is anything goes Mixed media or altered art!

I have an upcycled project for you. I have worked an empty watch box this time combining techniques of faux palette, decoupage and faux leather...ALL IN ONE!!!

Here is what I have recycled

I started off by first coating  it with gesso.

Then comes the play with Chalk paints to give the faux palette look!
I love the rustic, vintage look!!!

A closer look at the palette and distressed finish!

I have then decoupaged a floral tissue on to the faux palette! A rose looks lovely against the brown wood...what say???

A look at the completed box!

I have a die cut little heart on the closure!

That's not all! To know what's on the inside, I have a small video. Click to view and am sure you will like it!

Do let me know your views and hope to see you play along this month.
Do visit the blog to see what the team has in store for you.

Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling!

DT project with fabric transfer for crafters corner

Helllo crafty folks!

Rupa here on a Thursday with an amazing project share using the FIRST OF IT'S KIND FABRIC TRANSFER technique launched by Dress My Craft!
Yes, it's fabric transfer in just a few steps!

Here are a few things to keep in mind for this technique...

1. The technique can be done on ANY fabric that can be ironed and can withstand the heat from ironing. It should not shrink or burn!

2. Be patient and take your time to iron the transfer and your regular iron on COTTON mode should do. No need to use a steam iron.

3. Give sufficient time for cooling and don't be in a hurry to peel the transfer sheet.

4. MILD HAND WASH only and that too with cold water.

With all these in mind, you can just go about using this transfer technique to create some amazing stuff for the home like tote bags, cushion covers, pillow covers, aprons, journal covers and many more. It's your creativity and imagination at play!

Let me tell you it is the first of its kind and now fabric transfer can be done in a jiffy!
Here is what I made and I have a full video on this.

Do watch till the end and let me know if you have any queries. The fabric flower charm is totally hand made and has the faux leather tassel too hanging from DMC.

So, anyone shopping with me???? Dosen't the tote bag look super stylish.

Watch the full video here..

I will see you soon with another project .
Until my next creative journey,
Happy crafting and recycling.
Cheers.

Say it with DMC !

Hello crafty folks!
This Thursday I bring you another project with the newly launched DMC stencils.
You can use them in so many ways, for mixed media with texture paste or paints, sprays, inks, use blending foam to blend in inks, use as an embossing folder if you have a Big Shot plus!

Today I have upcycled 2 items for my project!

When a man challenges you to do something, you take it seriously don't you and if it's your husband, am sure you will do that extra mile to accept it!

Firstly, I accepted to give his worn out mobile cove a makeover...have a look at the condition that it was!

For this masculine project, I took DMC BROKEN EDGES stencil, I loved how random and uneven they are! Perfect for a man!

Here is the final make over!

For all details on the making, do visit the Crafters corner blog where I have my DT post!
