Nicole made this Swoon quilt (pattern by Thimbleblossoms) and I was surprised by the size of it when it arrived! For whatever reason, I thought it was much smaller - more like a lap size quilt. Well, it's not. It's big.
Nicole asked that the quilting was kept simple on this one and she wanted something curvy but not a swirl because that's what she's normally drawn to. We had another idea at first (I honestly don't remember what it was) but then the more I stared at the quilt and thought about it a large clamshell seemed to be the perfect fit.
The only deciding factor then was choosing what side would be the top of the quilt since the quilting is directional.
I think the quilting adds to the softness of this quilt but doesn't take away from the visual aspect at all. And who would want it to with big bright blocks like these? This is just a little reminder that sometimes simple is best. Somedays I think that's more of a reminder for myself than my clients :)

Plan B Sewing
I have this amazingly huge quilt on the machine right now that needs to get finished, and I was all set and planning for a super long day of quilting...
That was until I woke up with the dog in the middle of the night to let him out and it was snowing like mad...
And then Hubbin texted me once he got to work saying his drive was awful and stay home if I could...
So I woke up a bit early and was drinking my coffee and decided to quilt my minis and see how the day played out...
I was just going to quilt one... and then it went so quick so I decided to do them both!
I love how the back of this one turned out... I guess I should have taken a picture of the back of the other one (it doesn't have extra spool blocks, but it's adorable)
So now the binding is trimmed for both of these and I just need to finish it and get them finished up.
Well, after finishing quilting these guys, I almost thought about heading down to the machine. The wind has been roaring here by the lake, but just to be safe I checked Facebook to see the current conditions of the roads and I'm glad I did. It's nasty out there. South of us has been hammered all morning and the kids have been out of school for three days now (the previous two for the cold, today for the snow). Then once I made the decision to stay put and continue on with projects here at home, the snow moved in and it's just awful out.
So instead I've done some computer work, I'm planning on jogging later, maybe moving some furniture around if I feel up to it... We shall see what the rest of the day brings, but most importantly I'm blogging!!! Like a REAL post, not a quickie from my phone! I'm so proud of myself!
I just downloaded a TON of pictures off of my camera and I will be sharing a bunch of quilts I've worked on recently and some pictures of my little vacation too!
I hope this little post finds you all safe and warm (or if you're down under, cool and dry). I'm going to go make myself a cup of tea and get back to work. Check back soon for TONS of pictures!!!

More minis
I hope you all had a great time over the holidays. It was great yet crazy here and I completely underestimated my timing these last couple weeks. Granted getting the second part of my root canal done right before Christmas, My Hubby's little trip to the urgent care, and other family appointments took up way more time than I had anticipated, but oh well.
I had this crazy notion that I would be able to quilt for days and get all sorts of quilts done... Uuuummmmm yeah, this is all I have to show for my efforts:
I loved the mini I made for my Schnitzel & Boo Mini Swap, so I made myself one. And when I was cutting out the pieces, I cut too many so I made a few extra spools for the backing. I love it and hope to baste it this morning so I can get it quilted soon.
Here's the new mini next to the original. I love them both, but I have to get them quilted and send the one off...
I did however plan a new quilt or five and I was able to sort my stash a bit more and feel just a tad bit more organized. I still have some piles that need to find a new home so I can rearrange my room a bit, but all in due time. I'm in no rush at this point and every time I think about moving stuff around, I just want to see instead... It's the catch 22 of a quilter's life!
Well, I hope you all had a great 2014, and hope 2015 will be even better!!!
