I've Been Tagged

Natalie tagged me so here's my photo and story...

Here's what you do:

1. Open your 1st Photo folder.
2. Scroll to the 10th photo.
3. Post the photo and the story behind it.
4. Tag 5 or more people.

The story behind this photo was a trip to Alberta that Richard and I took in May 2008. We stayed in Canmore and one afternoon, friends from Calgary came for a visit and we all went out for dinner. Here we are in the lobby of the Windtower with Dara and her charming boyfriend. I think the concierge took the photo. I think I never posted it because we're so teeny tiny in it. But we had a fantastic weekend and I'd go back to Canmore in a heartbeat.

I tag:

2. Jenny
3. Richard
4. Susan

Clark's Nutcracker

From the Jay family, the Clark's Nutcracker is a gregarious bird we encountered in Lake Louise.

Apparently, the name "nutcracker" refers to their ability to use their bills to extract seeds from cones, particularly whitebark pine seeds.

I love any bird that I don't need to use my binoculars to identify.

Rocky Mountain High

Canmore, Alberta...Just love the reflection of the Rockies in the clear water. Amazing place. I want to go back!

Grassi Lake outside of Canmore.

Great shot of Richard as photographer.

Richard and I also drove up a little further to Lake Louise. Lotsa snow up here for May, eh?

Back from Alberta

I've been off the grid since Thursday when Richard and I headed for a getaway to Alberta. It was fantastic! We flew to Calgary, rented a car and stayed in Canmore, about an hour or so west of Calgary, in the Rocky Mountains. We took day trips to Banff and Lake Louise, took tons of pictures, saw lots of wild animals and generally had a fantastic time.
In Calgary, we had lunch with a fellow I hadn't seen since Grade 6. He's living in Edmonton but serendipty was on our side, and he was in Calgary for a few days. Was FANTASTIC to see you George. Let's do it again! (And let's not wait another 35 years!!)

In Canmore and Banff, we talked to lots of people who told us about out-of-the-way places to visit. Richard and I saw lakes that were turquoise blue and remarkably, devoid of humans. Photos to follow. I haven't even pulled them off my camera yet so I've posted some pages from my travel journal. Tomorrow: photos!
