Britt Lower by Charlie Rubin for Working Class Magazine, styled by yours truly, with thanks to Alexandra Grecco, Hannah Metz and Sarah Beaver. So the thing about having a job that requires you to be on the internet all day is that it helps you get real tired of the internet, real fast. I have been neglecting too many dusty corners--it's time to sweep out the world wide cobwebs. Above are a few outtakes from a shoot I did with Charlie and actress Britt Lower for Brooklyn-based zine Working Class. I made my peace with pastels that funny day.
I played a supporting role on another shoot not so long ago with my favorite flower girl, od'ing with perverted bliss on lily fumes and stumbling home at three in the afternoon loaded down with the biggest, smelliest bouquet of leftovers. Running out of vases and shoving French lavender into old jam jars. And slowly, but surely, a pal and I have been chipping away at a brand spankin' new website, primarily intended to trick the public into thinking I am a fully, perhaps even professionally, functioning human. Works in progress (me, myself and my website.) After all: it does not matter how slow you go, so long as you do not stop--or so a wise tumblr template once told me.
I took part in a really fun feature in the latest issue of N.E.E.T. Magazine that just came out a couple days ago. It's all about my ideal vacation spot, which right now is Santorini, the Greek Island where Summer Lovers was filmed (I wont rest until every last one of you has seen that movie, for serious!) Man, I really wish I could wear that imaginary outfit tomorrow...
I also have a piece in the latest issue of BUST about Rachel Becker and the badass guitar straps she makes for her label Heavy Leather NYC. I'll try and get a decent scan soon!
Jane Birkin, from the pages of Vogue UK March 1972. Ever since dressing as a Pierrot for Halloween, I've become a little obsessed with the costume (and the idea of someday trying it again, only with more prep time and attention to detail.) She makes an awfully chic Pierrette here, and in Dior to boot!I found this image over on Youthquakers, one of my very favorite sites to browse. It reminds me of the time I spent on Work-Study at McHenry Library at UCSC, not-so-subtly sneaking off during my shift to pour over their huge collection of hard-bound vintage US Vogue magazines. I still have stacks of the pages I photocopied, Veruschka and Marissa and Penelope et al.

2011: time for a clean break. I've been wanting to change the layout of this blog for what feels like a very, very long time now, and over the last few days I finally sat down and got to properly hacking away at some serious html. It's still not perfect, not by a long shot, and I still need to go back and re-format as many posts as I can stand (a project worthy of SEVERAL rainy afternoons, to be sure...) but I feel so much better already! Now we've got some space to move around, ya know? No more bumping elbows, knocking knees. I feel like standing on my tippy toes and shoving some jazz hands at the sky!In the spirit of transformations, I bring you a photo of two dudes dressed as Ana Wintour and Grace Coddington, respectfully, from Candy Magazine found via frockwriter. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
At long last, all pissing and moaning aside: Lula has been released! (Though I'll believe it when I finally see it stateside...) Looking forward to Ashley Smith's editorial, and all the usual fluff and circumstance. I do wonder what the price hike will translate to in US$...ah well, we all know I'll find those pennies somewhere! It's a darn good thing none of my favorite, foreign, pricey magazines come out on a monthly basis...(cover via fearless123 on tFS)
Right now, I'm hoping against all hope that the photo behind Leith Clark with all the dark blue hues is, in fact, the cover of the newest issue of Lula. (And, is it just me...or does the girl in the white dress bear a slight resemblance to Ms. Lou Doillon?? Squint harder, dang it!)The release date for their Fall issue has now been pushed back well over a month, for reasons still unknown. I love Lula, I do, but I have to admit: it really ticks me off that they've not given us hint one as to what the heck is going on. I mean, we care dammit! And we shell out nigh on $20 to buy a copy, so I feel like the least they can do is lend a few words of reassurance in these troubled times. Grrrrr.Anyways, in the meantime, to wile away the Lula-less hours, check out this interview with Leith on The Style Notebook (also where I found the above photo.) Here's wishing the Lula pop-up shop makes a stop in NYC--and be sure to read Anabela's first-hand account of the experience while you're at it!
A piece of mine in the October/November issue of BUST Magazine, about Sheena Matheiken and the Uniform Project. I'm so glad to see that phase two of the Project is going so well! So far they've chosen really amazing girls to participate, and raised a good deal of money for some really worthwhile causes. On a side note, I've added a link on the sidebar to my new online Portfolio. It's kinda a work in progress (in so many ways!) but so far I've got most of my published pieces and styling work up. Have a look--and feel free to pass it on to anyone who you think might benefit from my services ;n )

Magazines! Two that I am looking forward to with bated breath, and one I've already had my way with at B&N (and wish wish wish I could have afforded to take home!)I don't usually end up buying Fantastic Man, as much as would like to, but this time it's different. It's personal. It's BRYAN. Plus, I promised a land-locked pal that I'd send him a copy, and I definitely intend to have my way with it first.
The last issue of the Gentlewoman was quite special and exciting, especially for a debut effort, and the second one looks no less promising. Beyond all that, it's just such a pretty object to have around. To me the design, typography, and layout could not be more satisfying. And have you had a peak at the current issue of LOVE?? I grabbed a copy while waiting out that freak tornado the other day at Barnes and Noble, and emerged a solid two hours later blinking at the night sky. Amazing interview after amazing interview, so many fascinating women. My favorite was with Lauren Hutton, and I absolutely am dying to read the autobiography she speaks about working on. What a life! What a lady.

Woo!! These are a few shots from an editorial I styled for Joey., a brand spankin' new zine which just officially launched a couple days ago. I'm really excited for the magazine, as well as their amazing blog, since Aaron and Claire (the team behind Joey) are two of the coolest, funnest, all around bestest people I've met here in NYC.
The outfits were cobbled together from a mishmash of my own stuff and some things straight out of Claire's closet. Be sure and check out the rest of the shoot, on the last few pages of issue #1. The rest of the shots are quite different, as you'll see!
(P.S. Please don't repost these images without crediting Aaron Richter and Joey, thanks!)

I've been hearing rumblings that the August/September issue of BUST has been officially unleashed on the world, so I think it's safe for me to finally unveil something I've been excited about for many weeks now.
Back in June, I was invited, along with Elizabeth, Jenny and Angel, to be one of four amazing, blogging ladies to be featured in a special Fall fashion preview. When Lisa, one of the editors, suggested we wear a favorite local or indie designer of ours, I immediately thought of my friend Caycee Black and her sweet, eponymous line. I ended up wearing one of her gorgeous heavy knit sweaters, along with some odds and ends from my closet. We were also asked to make up a little wishlist for fall--sadly, my crappy scan totally obliterated the American Apparel sweater down in the corner, but that means you'll just have to check it out for yourself in print!Endless thanks goes out to Lisa (who has an amazing blog of her own) and everyone else at BUST for being so amazing and sweet and badass! And for treating me so dang good, seriously, whatever I did to deserve this, it must have been pretty awesome...

Pheeew. I'm starting to feel like all I do these days is sweat and scoop cat poo (pet sitting is not a particularly glam occupation...) Thankfully, starting the 20th I'll be escaping for four weeks to my island homeland in Washington!! It's high time for a seaside retreat, and these gorgeous photos by Liz Ham for Oyster Magazine have got me dreaming about worn-in denim, stripes, flats, and maybe a bit of red lip (though I'll just end up having to reapply after that ginormous ice cream cone I've got my mind's eye on...) So of course, I made a polyvore set to go with!
Ok, so: all I need to do now is find someone willing to pay me for dicking around on polyvore all day, and I'll be set for life!
