Bella Blvd Fabric Style Crayon Roll

I'm up on the Bella Blvd blog again with another fabric project.  This one your kids will love!

It's a pretty simple project, minus the rick-rack trim, which was so hard for me to get straight for some reason.  I used a tutorial you can see here: http://www.skiptomylou.org/2007/04/25/on-a-roll/

I used a disappearing ink marker to mark my sewing lines between crayons.  It literally disappears in a few hours.  Or you can use the "mark-b-gone" side and it disappears with a dab of water right away.  Love these markers.

Bella Blvd Fabric Style- Puppet Theater

Puppet-Theater_TiffanyHood_detail-1

I made this for my kids for Christmas. They have a ton of puppets they've collected, mostly from Ikea, and I've always wanted them to have a big wooden puppet theater, but there just isn't room, so I made them a doorway puppet theater that when taken down can be rolled up and easily stored. The theater is held in the doorway with a tension rod. I used a 5/8" rod, but you can use whatever you can find at the store. I made this theater 32" wide because that's the width of the doors at our house. The opening for the puppets is about 20"x18."

I inserted dowel rods at the bottom, and above and below the opening before sewing up the sides. This creates a lot of stability and structure. The curtains are on their own rod and can be un-tied and closed.

The banner was done by cutting out and sewing on yellow felt triangles. I added a ribbon trim along the top.

The kids absolutely love it.

Halloween Treat Bag Tutorial!

Featuring "Too Cute To Spook" fabrics
by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake Fabrics

Have you always wanted to learn to sew something simple, but didn't know where to start?
If you know the basics of how to use your sewing machine, try this simple cute project for Halloween.

When I was first learning how to sew, the first project my mom had me do was a drawstring bag.
It teaches so many great sewing fundamentals, and is a great way to start.

It only takes a few basic sewing tools, and you can make it any size you want to!

I created a full, step-by-step photo tutorial for the Bella Blvd blog, and you can find it HERE.

And as a side note- it's not wise to buy a huge bag of Halloween candy two months before Halloween to do a photo shoot with.  I had good intentions of having self control,

but.....

Bella Blvd CHA Fabric Project! Witch Dress and Hat!

I have one more project for you that I created for Bella Blvd's CHA Trade Show booth.
Bella Blvd asked me to create some fabric projects using their newest fabric collection- Too Cute To Spook.

I sent them some other items, too, but this was my favorite fabric project!

Isn't she the cutest?  I mean, really!
I wanted to make my daughter a witch dress she could wear for our annual "Witches Nite Out" event we do here in Salt Lake City, Utah.  It's tradition for hundreds of women to dress up and attend this two night event, eat treats, dance and shop.  Up to this point, it's just been my mom, aunts, sister, and friends, but this year I've got to bring the newest, cutest witch- my daughter :)

The dresses at Witches Nite Out are elaborate, with bussles and trains and trim and lights and yards and yards of fabric.  This dress is not quite as elaborate, and I actually used parts of a princess dress pattern for parts of it.  I made it long enough to touch the ground, and then I added sleeves, extra bussels, and lots and lots of extra fabric, trim and lots of tulle underneath.

The hats are what are really over-the-top.  This one is less elaborate but perfect for a first-time little girl's hat.  To make the rose I used my ruffler foot (or you could just gather a long strip of fabric) and rolled it into a rose shape and tucked the edges under.  The feathers and embellishments were hot glued rather than sewn onto the hat.

Supply List (dress):

Too Cute To Spook fabrics by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake Fabrics
3" wide black gathered lace trim
Hook & Eyes clasps for back of dress
Elastic for sleeves
Interfacing for waistband
Tulle skirt (underneath)
Ribbon (green for bodice)
Ribbon trim (orange- top of bodice- Doodlebug Design)
McCall's M6619 (used parts of the pattern)

Supply List (hat):

Too Cute To Spook fabrics by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake Fabrics
Bella Blvd Feathers: Orange
Bella Blvd Feathers: Pickle Juice
Bella Blvd Feathers: Oreo-Black
Bella Blvd Feathers: Surf N' Turf
Peltex (used instead of interfacing to make the hat stiff enough to stand on its own)
Hot glue gun (to attach bow, "rose" and feathers)
McCall's M5494 (hat only- XS size, shortened the top of the hat by 4 inches)

Thanks for visiting and spending the week with me seeing all the new CHA goodies coming out!
Hope you enjoyed my projects!

Bella Blvd Fabric Style with Silhouette! Girl's Summer Outfit + Promo

Bella Blvd had a fun opportunity to team up with Silhouette, and I was able to play with the new
Fabric Blade and Heat Transfer Interfacing.
It was such a fun project, that I decided to create a full step-by-step tutorial to go along with it.

You can find the FULL TUTORIAL which walks you through how to cut fabric with the Silhouette Cameo
and create a NO SEW design for a shirt, go to the Bella Blvd Blog HERE!

I also decided to create a matching skirt and headband to make a complete outfit.

The headband features Crochet Flowers and Crochet Hearts by Bella Blvd.
They are great for fabric projects, too!

And the skirt and shirt feature Bella Blvd's Sunny Happy Skies and Puppy Park fabrics for Riley Blake Fabrics.

Quick & Easy Fabric Project- Bella Blvd Fabrics

I've got a quick & easy project up over on the Bella Blvd Blog using their Puppy Park fabric line.
See more photos and the full post HERE.

Each of my kids will have one as part of their Easter gifts.
Then we just need some sun and heat so we can head to the pool to use them!

Bella Blvd Fabric Style- Camera Strap

Here's my second fabric project today for Bella Blvd.  I posted a baby quilt earlier today, so be sure to check that out as well.

I recently got a new camera, and suddenly my old camera strap just wasn't good enough :)  I thought it was the perfect opportunity to use my Bella Blvd fabrics to create something a little more my style than black and yellow- know what I mean?

I used Bella Blvd's Sunny Happy Skies and Puppy Park for this project.  The aqua and apple green are my favorite color combination.

Bella Blvd has a full line of buttons and fabric and crochet flowers, too.  These are two Blooms a Bella flowers that I stacked and sewed together.  I removed the white buttons they come with and stitched on two of Bella Blvd's designer buttons.

The back fabric is from the Puppy Park line.  It's a mix of aqua, apple green, grey and black.

and the front is a darling print from Sunny Happy Skies.

I made up the pattern as I went, but I the strap's a little snug, so I'd make it a bit bigger next time.  I cut mine 4" wide, but I think 4.5" would have been better.  I won't share my tutorial because of the measurements.  It was very hard to turn with the batting inside.

There are many very cute tutorials online though that you can follow if you want to make your own.
I found all of these on Google :)

Bella Blvd Baby Quilt- Freezer Paper Applique Tutorial

My sister is having a baby in a few months, and it WAS a boy :)
Then... next appointment... oops!

Now it's a GIRL!

So... the boy quilt I made will have to wait for another baby, and I pulled out my adorable Sunny Happy Skies fabrics by Bella Blvd to make her a brand new (and WAY cuter) baby quilt.
I searched for a cute girly pattern and found one that I just loved!

Isn't this the cutest pattern?  It's "Daisy May" from Stitch Studios: Designs by Cyndi Walker.
The pattern can be found HERE.  I picked mine up at my local quilt shop.

This quilt uses the "Freezer paper and starch" applique method.
There's a good tutorial HERE if you want a detailed lesson.  It even has the same shape pieces.

It's a much easier method for applique that allows you to form your fabric shapes before you sew them.
This way you don't have to embroider them with a satin stitch (miles and miles of thread) or finish the edges by hand (pain in the neck).

The shapes don't have to be cut perfectly because you'll fold the edges around a "stencil template"
I cut mine several at a time.

Then you make a stencil with Reynold's Freezer Paper (not to be confused with parchment paper or wax paper- SO not the same thing.  If you want your iron to work for a long time, be sure to buy the right stuff)

See how the stencil is made HERE.

Spray starch is sprayed into a bowl, and when the foam dies down, it's "painted" on the edges of the fabric with a paint brush.

The edges of the fabric are then folded under and pulled tightly against the edges of the stencil.
Then they are ironed for a few seconds until they're completely dry.

Put a layer of freezer paper over your ironing board, too.  If you don't, your ironing board will look like burnt toast when you're done from all the cooked starch.  When you're done you just pull the freezer paper off and toss it.

The points of the petals are pulled sharp and pressed again.  Then the stencil is removed and the fabric retains it's shape.  You can re-use the stencil until it gets too soggy and loses it's form.
When that happens you just make a new one and keep chugging along.

I made 64 of these fabric petals.  It took 5 hours.

FIVE.

That includes cutting and pressing.  I sat and watched movies a few nights in a row until they were done.
If you're gonna watch movies you might as well do something productive at the same time, right?  Ugh.

Once you get all the petals completed, the rest isn't too bad.
They are pinned on and appliqued.

The centers of the flowers were made using a Clover brand "Yo Yo Maker"- size small.
You can find these at your local quilting or fabric shop.
Yo-yo's can be made by hand, too, but this way you don't have to stress so much.
They're nearly perfect each time, and they're uniform.  The little tool is pretty cool.

The yo-yo's took about an hour.

And I watched more TV.....

I sewed the yo-yo's onto the quilt with my machine instead of by hand because it's way easier
and because I don't want a baby ripping them off and putting them in her mouth.

I love that the border uses jumbo rick-rack.  It think it's darling.

I bound the quilt with rose-style (swirly) Minky in hot pink.
Minky is the most plush snuggly awesome fabric on the planet.
I want an adult size Minky blanket I can snuggle up in.

Thank you to my mom who just happened to stop by at the perfect time to be my quilt holder for this photo.

Maybe I'll make myself a giant Minky quilt so that I can wrap up in it and watch TV the next time I have to applique for hours.... and hours...... and hours........ :)

Anyway... I think my sister is going to love it.
And luckily I don't think she reads my blog-
So it'll be a surprise!
