Orange Art

Orange Art Vignette

Orange Art Vignette Detail

orange art

I once asked a dear artist /mentor/friend who had the same impulses as me to create these carefully placed vignettes of color, shape and texture

whether what we were doing

could be considered

Art.

She decided that it definitely was, especially when it was photographed.

I agree.

Carefully placing bits of beauty together in a puzzle-like process until they just click in my eye, mind, soul.

Art making at its most simple, and infinitely satisfying.

Especially when captured through my lens.

Monday Morning re-set

Monday morning was hard for Chica and me today.

IMG_7907

Okay, much more for me than Chica. She’s just hanging out like her 10 year old doggie self.

I, on the other hand, am dragging my butt.

IMG_7910

The kind of butt dragging that even purple Chucks

a shower and getting dressed in some comfy duds doesn’t even help.

David and I worked really hard this weekend,

painting, cleaning, sorting, and making multiple trips to Home Depot for supplies.

That’s going to the new normal here for a while.

This I know.

But I got strong reminders this morning that even in the midst of busy and a million “have to’s”,

there still has to be time for creative juicy living.

That is my purpose here on this planet, so that has to be a priority, no matter what !

So I took a half and hour and did this little journaling exercise inspired by a Pinterest pin I saw.

IMG_7912

And then I took a bit of time to create this blog post.

Ahhhhh…

Feels good.

Like a soak in a tub,

or putting on your favorite jeans or shoes…

Giving thanks to my beautiful creative soul for the reminder !

Building a bridge…

I emailed a dear friend yesterday morning as said

“Do you ever have a day when you just hate most people in the world ?”

I was kind of in that mind frame a little.

I think that I was on the top of the list of people that I wasn’t enjoying being around.

But, as my wise friend suggested, the best way to turn that feeling around is to practice some good self-care.

For me, that includes getting out of my head, being in the present moment,

and taking time to look up…

IMG_6035IMG_6036

and look down,

IMG_6044

to breathe in and notice beauty around me.

To surround myself with things I enjoy and

put on clothes in color that makes me feel happy.

IMG_6038IMG_6048

Nothing like a colorful scarf or  my favorite purple Chucks!

With the intention of helping my mood by spending some quality Me-Time in the studio,

I also dug out my favorite painting shirt.

IMG_6051

The hand prints on the boobs are my own, and the pink “beautiful” bit on the back was stitched on by my friend and Mish Mash Queen, Deb Taylor when we both joined Beth McWilliams for a amazing visit in Seaside, FL a few years back.

IMG_6054

I then sat down without a plan, with a blank 12X12” canvas and my glorious Golden Acrylics,

Pandora Radio on the Bose speakers playing some favorite mellow tunes,

and let the paint take me where it wanted to go…

By the end of this exercise, I was definitely more my true self again.

Not only that, but I kind of fell in love with my Self.

Proud that I had taken the time to return to center, that I had given a voice to my Creative spirit, and that I had brought some more beauty into this world.

Practice makes as close to perfect as we will ever get, Beautiful Ones.

Let’s go love on ourselves today !

Happy Tuesday !

My Own Shades of Grey…

This week’s joy list was a little harder to focus on than usual.

IMG_2930

You see, other than for about 3 or three hours of sunshine, it has been grey, grey, grey

for about 8 days straight here.

IMG_2946

That has taken its toll on me, it would seem.

Perhaps it is because it is coming at the same time as the darkening, the shorter day light hours, the autumn season…

All I know is that I seem to be feeling pretty grey right along with the weather.

IMG_2934

Oh, I know!

IMG_2937

You are about to launch into advice, remedies that you know work, say something you think will cheer me up…

IMG_2938

Please don’t bother.

IMG_2939

(Though your commiseration and love is, of course, always welcome and appreciated !)

IMG_2945

You see, I am kind of okay being grey right now.

IMG_2944

This moody, brooding, grey me

IMG_2935

is in fact kind of full of creative juices of a different kind that I am kind of into exploring.

IMG_2943

Plus, I know it won’t last forever.

My Joy and Love for Life are too vibrant to stay grey for tool long !

From this week’s Joy List :

- little pamphlet stitch bound, painted paper books in little dyed woolen pockets, the perfect place to hide moody messages, and the rocks and rusty bits that go along with them.

- naps in grey afternoons, curled up with a dog and cat

- organizing art supplies to go to Art is You (Me and my moody self leave tomorrow am !)

- Quick Lube oil change guys who vacuum your car when they change the oil

- giving some special Rock Fairy love to a woman who I saw sitting in the car parked next to me at the grocery store. Turns out she had just left the hospital after major foot surgery and was waiting for her boyfriend to bring her her pain meds from the pharmacy inside. She loved the “be” and the “ok” rocks, and I loved connecting with her heart and giving her a bit of comfort.

-friends who get it, don’t try to fix it, or me, and just love me through it.

I hope your Thursday is full of joy, Beautiful Ones, where it is grey or not !!

Haiku My Heart–The Gifts that keep on giving…

These everyday gifts

Mine to revel in and love

Gratitude abounds.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was walking out of a store at a strip mall this week and looked up to see these :
IMG_2852
IMG_2853
The photos aren’t great but as I snapping them, this woman walked towards me on the side walk, looking quizzically at me, wondering what I was doing.
I said to her “Look at these leaves ! Aren’t they beautiful ?”
She had this look of confusion on her face, almost mistrusting, but I think my big smile made her pause and really look at what I was referring to.
She looked up, studied the leaves for a moment or two and replied,
“You know, yes, they are !”
She smiled at me as if to thank me for sharing, and kept walking.
Now, this story is no big deal, I know,
but it is one of those everyday gifts that has started to come to me when I focus on what is beautiful and good in my world.
I don’t do it all the time, but when I remember to BE where I am, and really look around me,
man, are there gifts to receive !!!
IMG_2850
I brought a few of the leaves home and dried them in my microwave flower press.
I think they will keep their magnificent color that way.
IMG_2851
Don’t they look wonderful with this other sweet gift I received from my friend Andrea’s mom ?
A cozy rock with a crocheted cozy ! I love it sooooo much ! Thank you, Barb and Andrea, you talented mother and daughter duo !
Speaking of mother/daughter duos,
(cool segue, eh ?)
my Mom is coming for the weekend !!! Yay !!!!
IMG_1035IMG_1063IMG_1036
It doesn’t look like we will have the kind of beach weather we had when she was here in May,
but we will make fun whatever the weather !
Happy Friday, Beautiful Ones !
Remember to keep looking for beauty !
