Quote of the Day

Except the the 60 Minutes story was debunked.

Republicans also gave bogus emails to the media about the Obama administrations handing of Benghazi.

CBS News reported Thursday that leaked versions sent out by the GOP last Friday had visible differences than Wednesday's official batch. Two correspondences that were singled out in the report came from National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes and State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland.

The GOP version of Rhodes' comment, according to CBS News: "We must make sure that the talking points reflect all agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we don't want to undermine the FBI investigation."

The White House email: "We need to resolve this in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation."

The GOP version of Nuland's comment, according to CBS News: The penultimate point is a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the Agency (CIA) about al-Qaeda's presence and activities of al-Qaeda."

The White House email: "The penultimate point could be abused by members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings."

The death of Ambassador Chris Stevens is tragic. I think questions should be asked about the security at Benghazi. Unfortunately, the Republicans lack seriousness on security issues. You don't release false emails to the media if you are serious about national security.

Republicans Get Expensive Tax Paid Meals & Have the Audacity to Cut SNAP

Rep. Jackie Speier called out Republicans getting expensive meals on the taxpayers' dime.

"One member was given $127.41 a day for food on his trip to Argentina. He probably had a fair amount of steak. Another member was given $3,588 for food and lodging during a six-day trip to Russia. He probably drank a fair amount of vodka and probably even had some caviar. That particular member has 21,000 food stamp recipients in his district. One of those people on food stamps could live a year on what this congressman spent on food and lodging for six days," Speier said on the House floor.

Spieier was not allowed to name her Republican colleagues on the floor. The two members of Congress Speirr speaks of are Rep. Steve King and Rep. Frank Lucas.

Lucas and his wife had to survive on $127.41 per day while on a business trip (cough) to Buenos Aires. King ate on the meager sum of $3,588 during his time spent in Russia. Why do we make our members of Congress suffer like this?

Write A Caption: Steve King

I wrote before about Rep. Steve King's anti-immigration rally in Virginia. As you can see, there were less people at King's rally than a midnight showing of Ishtar. Politico reported there were 60 people at King's rally. Where are those people in this photo?

Steve King's Lame Anti-immigration Rally

Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King traveled from Washington D.C. to Virginia for a highly-billed anti-immigration rally. There was just one problem. According to Politico, only 60 attended.

“Now think what that is,” King said to the 60 or so attendees at the rally. “If you bring people from a violent civilization into a less-violent civilization, you’re going to have more violence right? It’s like pouring hot water into cold water, does it raise the temperature or not?”

So now King is calling Mexicans violent savages. King bases this on no factual evidence.

Speaking of hot water, King got into some when he made the bizarre claim that Mexican children were drug mules and had "hands the size of cantaloupes."

He cites those illegals who were brought to the United States by their parents as young children, for instance. "Some of them are valedictorians —and their parents brought them in. It wasn't their fault. It's true in some cases, but they aren't all valedictorians. They weren't all brought in by their parents. "For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds —and they’ve got hands the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert,” King tells Newsmax. “Those people would be legalized with the same act."

Housr Speaker John Boehner is going out of his way to distance himself from King. The xenophobia of tea party politicians like King have np true grassroots support. That doesn't stop the media from covering King and helping him spread his hateful rhetoric.

Quote of the Day: Rep Steve King Edition

"It turns out to be the best vote that I cast, was my 'no' vote to the $51.5 billion to Hurricane Katrina. That probably was my best vote."

Rep. Steve King, in 2009

The thing King is most proud of during his 10 years in trying is attempting to deny federal aid to New Orleans residents literally underwater. Many of whom happened to be black. If you don't think King is a racist than you are in denial.

Wingnut of the Day: Rep. Steve King

Republican Rep. Steve King can't help but say racist things about Hispanics. King told Newsmax that the children of illegal immigrant are actually drug mules.

He cites those illegals who were brought to the United States by their parents as young children, for instance.

"Some of them are valedictorians — and their parents brought them in. It wasn't their fault. It's true in some cases, but they aren't all valedictorians. They weren't all brought in by their parents.

"For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds — and they’ve got hands the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert,” King tells Newsmax. “Those people would be legalized with the same act."

How does King know that these children have "hands the size of cantaloupes"? Has King personally examined children of illegal immigrants. King says these crazy things without any facts. King doubled down and told Breitbart News that what he said was the gospel truth.

In an interview with Breitbart News on Wednesday, King pushed back against the Republican backlash by calling on people to review his remarks. He said, “they will understand that what I said is objective, it’s true and it cannot be logically challenged.”

Even fellow Republicans aren't buying it and are distancing themselves from King.

House Speaker John Boehner

“There can be honest disagreements about policy without using hateful language,” Boehner said in his statement. “Everyone needs to remember that.”

"Hateful language" is a polite way of Boehner admitting that King sounds like a racist.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor

”I strongly disagree with his characterization of the children of immigrants and find the comments inexcusable.”

Let's make things clear. Steve King is never going to march in a civil rights rally. King's has shown public disdain for gays and lesbians. King is against ENDA and made these bizarre remarks to Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council.

KING: And he said, “let me ask you a question.” “Am I heterosexual or am I homosexual?” And they looked him up and down, actually they should have known, but they said, “We don’t know.” And he said, “Exactly, my point. If you don’t project it, if you don’t advertise it, how would anyone know to discriminate against you?” And that’s at the basis of this. So if people wear their sexuality on their sleeve and then they want to bring litigation against someone that they would point their finger at and say, “You discriminate.” …This is the homosexual lobby taking it out on the rest of society and they are demanding affirmation for their lifestyle, that’s at the bottom of this.

King went as far as to accuse Attorney Eric Holder and President Barack Obama of racism. I love how racists project their faults on others.

When you look at this administration, I'm offended by Eric Holder and the President also, their posture. It looks like Eric Holder said that white people in America are cowards when it comes to race. And I don't know what the basis of that is but I'm not a coward when it comes to that and I'm happy to talk about these things and I think we should. But the President has demonstrated that he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race - on the side that favors the black person.

I hope the people in King's district are proud of their elected representative.

Dubious Rubio Gets An Astroturf Burn

Sen Marco Rubio gets a taste of astroturfing. Tea party protesters came to the Washington DC to voice their disapproval of immigration reform. Did these tea party protesters organize themselves? Of course not. Politico reports that Rep. Steve King organized the event.

“This bill is at its core amnesty,” Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who organized the event, told the sympathetic crowd. “We’re here to today… to take this debate outside the halls of Congress. If it’s not going to be good enough inside, we’ll take it outside!”

The Heritage Foundation was also at King's astroturfing rally. Apparently, the Heritage Foundation isn't letting former fellow Jason Richwine's discredited reports and ties to the white nationist movement keep them from being against immigration.

“Marco Rubio has not read his own bill!” said Robert Rector, a senior researcher for the Heritage Foundation.

I am no fan of Rubio but it should be noted that the Senate immigration reform bill is still being written. Rector hasn't read the bill because it isn't done.

This is essentially King and the Heritage Foundation calling all the media outlets and bringing and busing in a handful of tea party faithful. Politico and other outlets cover this like it is a big story.

Steve King's Hysterical Hispanic Vote Misinformation

Apparently, Rep. Steve King can't read an exit poll. King said Republicans lost the Hispanic vote by a "marginal" amount. Got that kids.

"We saw a marginal loss of the Hispanic vote, so people say we can't build a coalition again unless we make those accommodations," he said. "We should look at what happened with the conservatives who stay home. What happened with the biggest gender gap in history? What happened with the Ron Paul coalition, and the libertarians?"

The Pew Research Center found that President Obama won 71 percent of the Hispanic vote. Romney only received 27 percent of the Hispanic vote. King has an interesting definition of marginal. Of course, King is an anti-immigration tea party Republican in a red district. What is good for King's political prospects doesn't hold true for the rest of the GOP.

Steve King Hates People Having Sex

Rep. Steve King is radically conservative. King was the only member of Congress to vote against a resolution thanking black slaves for building the nation's capital. King told the media that he wasn't going to let liberals "to scrub references to America's Christian heritage from our nation's Capitol." Does anyone believe that King would have voted for the resolution if there was no separation of church and state?

King is now in an outrage over birth control being required to be covered in co-payments thanks to the new health care reform.

"We have people that are single, we have people that are past reproductive age, we have priests that are celibate. All of them, paying insurance premiums that cover contraceptives so that somebody else doesn't have to pay the full fare of that? And they've called it preventative medicine. Preventative medicine. Well if you applied that preventative medicine universally what you end up with is you've prevented a generation. Preventing babies from being born is not medicine. That's not— that's not constructive to our culture and our civilization. If we let our birth rate get down below replacement rate we're a dying civilization."

"Priests that are celibate"? You really can't make this stuff up. It is amazing how King selectively forgets about the Catholic church scandals. King claims that the human race will become extinct without scientific data to back his claim. What King's true problem with birth control is people having sex out of wedlock. His statement about Planned Parenthood backs this point.

"Planned Parenthood is invested in promiscuity."

King should have the guts to attempt to pass legislation forbidding people from having sex out of wedlock. At least King would be honest about his position. Of course, (King would possibly get laughed out of Congress.) Since King doesn't he babbles nonsense that should not be taken seriously.

Rep. Steve King is having a problem that radical Islam is overtaking America. Facts matter little. Attacking Muslim Americans is the latest version of the Southern Strategy.

Quote of the Day

"Planned Parenthood is invested in promiscuity."

Rep. Steve King

Amanda Marcotte predicts, "King, who just created a slogan that will spawn a million T-shirts that you probably only want to wear to feminist meet-ups."

The truth is this isn't about abortion or even Christian religion. King and other conservatives are uptight about sexuality and want to punish those that do the nasty. Amanda posted this quote of an exchange Sean Hannity had with Juan Williams.

"I'm pro-choice in this sense, Juan. If you choose to get in the back of the car with someone, if you choose to make out with them, if you choose to grab, grope and fondle, if you choose to take one article of clothing off after another, guess what? You made a series of choices, Juan."

Translation: If a woman has sex without Sean Hannity's consent then she deserved the punishment of carrying the baby to the final trimester. Hannity also wants the woman to take full responsibility of the baby. And no government handouts. Hannity doesn't care if your poor. Punishment has been rendered.

Quote of the Day

"Every time we give amnesty for an illegal alien, we deport a liberal."

Rep. Steve King

King explained the only way he would support amnesty for illegal immigrants is if liberals would be deported. It is hard to believe this man has his staffers writes legislation and cast votes that affect millions of Americans.

Hat tip to Digby.

Quote of the Day

"All Americans have health care, every single one."

Rep. Steve King

Perhaps in an alternative universe all Americans have health care. In this universe we do not have universal health care. Republicans have been making factually inaccurate statement but King is in fantasy land.

Wingnut of the Day

Rep. Steve King is the only member of Congress to vote against a resolution thanking black slaves for building the nation's capital. King's press release explains he opposed to resolutions based on Democrats would not allow a a depiction of the words ""In God We Trust" in the Capitol Visitors Center. Democrats may have resisted King's religious grandstanding because to courts have repeatably declared religious displays in federal buildings unconstitutional. The real hint is how King says "I opposed yet another bill to erect another monument to slavery." I wasn't aware there was an overabundance of slavery monuments. I guarantee there aren't as many slave monuments as there is Christian churches in this country.

"This is just the latest example of a several year effort by liberals in Congress to scrub references to America's Christian heritage from our nation's Capitol. Liberals want to amend our country's history to eradicate the role of Christianity in America and chisel references to God or faith from our historical buildings.

"Our Judeo-Christian heritage is an essential foundation stone of our great nation and should not be held hostage to yet another effort to place guilt on future Americans for the sins of some of their ancestors. Christian abolitionists gave their lives by the hundreds of thousands to end slavery. Great American leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. worshiped God just as our Founding Fathers did. We must never forget this important aspect of our heritage or use it as a political bargaining chip."

The only member of Congress to vote against the resolution. Remember that.
