Halloween Friday

Friday was a busy day and I didn't get Tot School in. We had to get a haircut, do some shopping, finish Alex's Halloween costume and go to his Halloween Gymboree Party.

We did read Pumpkin Eye by Denise Fleming
We picked this one up at the library the other day. It is a great Halloween book with short, catchy text, bright, attention getting illustrations.

I also did get a chance to make Alex a Halloween ispy jar.  I got the idea from Chasing Cheerios post.
I used a mayonnaise jar (the only empty jar I had on hand), some black beans and some creatures from the craft and dollar store.
I glued the cover on with my hot glue gun. Alex liked finding the creatures inside on the way to his Halloween party (about a 1/2 hour ride)

So Friday night's big event was Alex's Gymboree Halloween party. I made his costume and finished up the last buttons and holster during his nap.  He had a blast as you can see in the photos.

Tot School Day 4

~Alex is 32 months~
Tot School
A Buggy Day

In the morning we went to our Messy Art playgroup and Alex had a lot of fun playing with shaving cream, making sand and seaweed muffins and creating some play dough masterpieces. Of course I ran out of the house with out my camera. So no pictures this week. One of these weeks I will remember it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This is a favorite book of ours. We also watched the Youtube video, Alex really enjoyed it.

Today we made this really cute handprint caterpillar, I got the idea from No Time For Flash Cards post.

I also made Alex a spider color match game. Using some spiders I made out of styrofoam ball that were cut in half, paint, pipe cleaner legs and some googly eyes. I printed a web coloring book page and added a color circle on it. This game was really too easy for Alex. He imediately matched the spiders to the webs. At least they will be cute Halloween decorations. LOL

I found a little more complex bee/ flower matching printout from here for Alex. He was able to complete it, and it was definitely more challenging for him.

Tot School Day 2

After this 1st week I will probably only do weekly highlights of Tot School, but right now its new to us and so much fun. Here is what we did today:

My Car by Byron Barton

We read this book twice today. It is a great little book with simple bright illustrations.

I got the great idea to make a colored parking lot play mat from Love and Lollipops' blog. Alex loved it and picked up the idea to match the color of the car to the parking spot right away. After a little while he even made up his own game of putting a airplane in the spot then when that colored car came along the airplane with fly away.

We also made a traffic light out of contruction paper, clear contact paper and red, yellow and green tissue paper....

and we drove one of his Monster trucks through different colored paint and made tire tracks.
