Product Review: PAWZitive Therapy!

Since the temperature is rapidly dropping where I live and the snow, ice and salt seems to be accumulating, like many dogs, my paws are feeling it!

It was a blog entry by my pal Johann that set my human mom in motion! He barked about having sensitive paws to the snow and cold, and now wears booties to protect his paws.

While my own paws seem to stand up fine in the cold temperatures, it's the increase in salt and walking in deep snow that has started to bother me, and dry out the pads on my paws. When the snow gets caked in between my toes I pull up my paw and hobble until my human helps clear it out.

So off to the store she went last night in search for a solution. She found it.

This roll-on stick is great! It's all natural, yes, made of hemp and did a great job of protecting the pads on my paws last night! She just rubbed it on my pads, and off we went. I walked in deep snow, the cold sidewalk, complete with slush and salt and I didn't raise my paws once! She did the same thing this morning, and I was just fine!

"A convenient way to provide year-round soothing, moisturizing relief for cracked pads and skin abrasions in addition to shielded protection from ice, salt and rough surfaces. The benefits of EFA’s, and especially GLA, for healthy skin makes hemp seed oil a highly effective skin care additive. Hemp oil contains an unusually high concentration of EFA’s, making it an ideal natural ingredient for treating dry skin and abrasions. Hemp’s lipid constituents allow it to permeate through intact skin to nourish cells directly while also carrying therapeutic substances with it into the skin. More than 75% of its fatty acids are polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (EFA’s). These impart excellent emollient, lubricating, moisturing and protection properties to the pads of both cats and dogs."
So if you are not ready to don the boots just yet, try one of many conditioning and protection sticks out on the market!

Winter Fur

If you are a four-legged friend, then sometimes you may be the bane of your humans existence. Not because you chewed a favourite shoe, or barked at the mailman. No, it's because you shed. Even now, that winter is here and I'm growing my winter coat (my human mom likes to call me her little hairy chested man-pup!) I still shed. They were quite misguided in buying a white couch, and a black dog.

So what's a pup to do? Hope the humans get a kick-ass vacuum that can handle the tough job of pet fur (ahem...and dander and dust in general).

Mine have had three different kinds, and although the canister they have now is ok...what they covet...and are saving for is the Dyson. It even gives my human dad the urge to vacuum!

Sidenote for human moms: A recent survey said 75% of men would vacuum if they had a Dyson. So if you're human mom wants more help around the house, tell her to check the Dyson line.

They have developed a system where the Dyson parts create 45% more suction and remove more dust than other vacuum brands. WOW!

For pet owners, like our humans, they even have search categories that help choose the vacuum for you! The website is very helpful and easy to navigate. So whether you like the cannister or upright, if fur is an issue, Dyson has a solution for you.

'Tis the season to be shopping!

With the holiday season upon us, I'd like to make your shopping experience a bit better! What's on your list for pawesome gifts this year?

Well for whatever Fifi and Fido are asking for, you don't have to go far to find it! Online stores specializing in dog apparel, treats, toys and more can easily be found with the click of your mouse!

Some of my favourites include: Pampered Puppy, Johann the Dog and Just Barks.

Now of course, shopping online means the use of credit cards. Just like the online stores available out there, finding the right credit card for you can be a daunting experience. Card companies like Mint try to make it easy for you.

As well as an attractive introductory offer the Mint credit card comes with many benefits and features like: 24 hour online shopping security, 0% interest on purchases until June 2008, online fraud protection and no annual fee, the Mint MasterCard is a great option to look into.

On top of that, you can personalize the card! Imagine...your cute fuzzy face on your humans credit card!

If you are finding it hard to get that pawfect gift for your pooch pals? Mint even offers Visa gift cards. Starting at denominations as low as $10, you can send your pal a pre-paid Visa gift card, so they can shop online or in store for their pawfect gift!

Happy shopping everypup!

The Eco-Friendly Dog

With the Live Earth event behind us I thought I'd post some info on eco-friendly dog sites that provide various products and services for those pups trying to introduce small changes to encourage a big impact!

EarthDoggy provides both eco-friendly and chemical free products for dogs wanting to make a difference, and those that might have allergies.

Cyber Canine is a site that started as an information sharing service for finding earth friendly/non-allergenic dog products. They now have a united goal: proudly formulate manufacture, package and share their brand's (Mundo) organic, cruelty free and earth friendly dog products with the rest of the sensitive dogs out there. Mundo Botanica, always handcrafted, honest and always earth friendly.

Natural Pet Market boasts lots of choice for natural dog food (none affected by the recall) and various pet products like shampoos, homeopathies and vitamins.

For more companies that provide alternatives check out the extensive list at Happy Hippie!

Swimming is for the dogs! (like labs, sheppards and retrievers)

So I get to go to Greenwood Conservation Area each week for some off leash fun with my friends Denali and Starr! As soon as we pull up, our butts are wiggling, and we’re so excited to get out of the truck! Off like a shot, we hit the ground running, down the path, through some bushes, past the marsh, until we hit “the Pit”. We spend a bit of time running around, have some water, then off we go again through the trails to the doggie creek.

Well, I like water as much as the next Manchester...to drink, but when it gets really hot, I don’t mind taking a quick dip to cool off my feet. Well, we meet Labs, Golden Retrievers and other larger breeds who are adept swimmers, having their owners toss Frisbees and tennis balls into the creek and they go belly flopping in after them!

So of course my human thinks it’s “cute”, and thinks I want to have a swim. Uhhh, I don’t think so. But scoop alley-oop into the water I go! Before I know it, I’m dog paddling for dear life to get back to solid ground! And when I do, I get a cookie for a good swim!! WHAT??!! Risk my life and you give me a cookie??!!

Needless to say, I spent the rest of our time there on dry land and running through the weeds. Those Labs set a bad example for us land loving pups!

For pups like me who aren't natural water lovers, the introduction of a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) might make all the difference in the world! I've heard you can go from floating like a rock to freestyle champ with one! You should always look for the amount of floatation in each device, the fit and quality of material before purchasing. This doesn't mean your dog shouldn't still be monitored in the water...just like kids, supervision in the pool, lake or creek is invaluable.

Both RuffWear and Dog Paddling Adventures offer PFD's for your pooch.
