Breda has this post, which links to this post by Jay G, which links this article on a kidnapping/sexual assault/murder.

Between supreme court decisions stating that the police have no general duty to help you, and the fact that it's hard to carry a police officer, it's a wonder more people don't carry.

Breda's admonition to carry the right tool is one that we should all take to heart.
