argo

i know i'm totally late to the game, but at least i saw one of the movies that was up for best picture at the oscars last night. (and since when are there NINE movies nominated for best picture.... seriously? didn't there used to be like 5 or 6....).

hubby and i watched argo saturday night. i was happy to see this scene not only because it's a phenomenal movie but especially since it meant the end of a boring awards show. i enjoyed their acceptance speeches. best line of the night was from the 3rd producer who said (sandwiched between clooney and affleck), "i know what you're thinking, the 3 sexiest producers you've ever seen." good one.

but i still haven't recovered from the movie. it's tense. tense like if i wasn't sprawled out under a fleece blanket, ice pack, cellphone, and remote control, i would get up, leave the room, take a few deep breaths, and regroup. for me, it ranks right up there with the abyss, where for most of that movie i felt like i was underwater gasping for my last breath. i'm sure you've seen it and you know what i'm talking about. if you don't, rush right over to your remote control and dial it up on 'on demand'.

i must live under a rock

because i had never heard of this film until i watched a little bit of the golden globes a few weeks ago. and i hear it's garnered 10 academy award nominations today. what? where have i been...

i admit i don't go to the movies often. i like to wait for the movie to come out on dvd or on demand, that way i can watch it in the luxury of my own home. (read: on my comfy sofa, in my flannel pjs, with the ability to pause the movie for a restroom break.)

the artist is a silent movie (what? do they still make those?) in black and white. well, that's 2 strikes for me not to see it. i'm challenged by black and white movies and subtitles. i feel like i have to think more. i feel like i'm straining to watch the movie. does that happen to anyone else?

but then there's this guy. uggie.
i hear he steals the show. reason enough for me to see it. cuz as you all know, i love a cute dog.

how about you? how you seen the artist?

fatal attraction

my favorite movie. of all time. i've seen it about 617 times. no lie. ask my husband. i believe it should be seen at all bachelor parties. the divorce rate in the country will plummet because no Linkman will ever have an affair again. (and yes, i know women have affairs also. another one of my favorite movies is unfaithful with diane lane.)

yesterday, the pioneer woman said that she watched a behind-the-scenes making of fatal attraction on the bio channel. dang, i missed it. well, i googled it and it's on again tonight! in fact here are the upcoming air times for it
  • Thursday October 20 at 8:00PM EDT
  • Friday October 21 at 12:00AM EDT
  • Friday October 28 at 8:00PM EDT
  • Saturday October 29 at 12:00AM EDT
i can't wait to see it. pw warned that the description of filming the infamous rabbit scene was not very pleasant... so heads up, you may want to block your eyes for that one.

the kids are all right

i watched the golden globes last night while on the treadmill at the gym. no, i wasn't on the treadmill for 3 hours. but rather an hour. and i saw this

win best motion picture, comedy or musical and annette bening win best actress in a motion picture or comedy.

have you seen it? it was one of the movies i watched over the holidays. i watched it, and the next day watched it again. i liked it. i really liked it.

then i started googling. and found this. the home of mark ruffalo, also starring in the movie. my kinda of home. casual, comfortable, cheerful.
although, according to this, mr. ruffalo no longer lives here. hmmm, wonder where he's moved to?

globe fashion

what's the best way to deal with this?
park yourself at the kitchen table and watch the golden globes at the same time. by the way, i consider myself an extremely, ok, more-than-somewhat, organized person. i'm not sure where this stack of receipts came from. it started with 2 and bred. and bred. and bred.

but let's talk about golden globe fashion. here were some of the highlights from last night's show.

different, but totally like it.
skip the dress. let's talk about that adorable pixie haircut. love.
love the color.
felicity looks great. if only my arms were as toned.
this is my favorite of the night.
love this one too.

and glenn close. can't help but think of fatal attraction everytime i see her. it is, after all, my favorite movie. toni colette. i thought she looked simply stunning.
and who doesn't love girl-next-door sandra bullock. must see the blind side.

no country for old men

i've been watching this movie a lot recently. seems like the encore channel plays it every other day. and i get sucked in. (remember, it's seattle, it's rainy season, it's grey season, laying on the sofa under a blanket is sooo enticing.)

this is totally creepy. so creepy you can't help but watch and then have bad dreams later.
the pale skin, the haircut, the low voice. makes me shiver.

can you even imagine it's him?i can't. he did that good of a job in the movie.

new stuff at pixelimpress

how was your weekend? mine was ok. relaxing. and slightly productive. one thing i managed to do this weekend was load some new goods into the shop. valentine's! there are some cuties.

how about tic tac toe on bubble gum pink herringbone. using my new favorite font. sketch block. i think it's what erika used on her christmas cards. and i loved it! very unusual for me to like this font.
or how about simple, classic, right to the point. steve will say this a lot. forever. or how about ticking stripe. i made my own. in rose. and again, my favorite new font in chocolate.
and there's tags too.

like i said... slightly productive. i got sidetracked by this on cable. even though i've seen it 723 times, i watched it again.
i had hoped to box the christmas decorations and make a comfort food dinner for steve tonight when he returns from a full day of hunting. didn't happen. so it's grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. easy peasy.

don't forget, head over here for valentine's and if you mention this blog post while checking out, i'll refund 20% of the cost of your entire order!

i saw julie and julia with mom and kim when they were in town last week. it was wonderful. i chuckled a lot. meryl was awesome as julia. now the big question is... how many times can i say 'bon appetit' a la julia child until steve disowns me?? i'll let ya know.

a must see

we didn't get to run away. we woke up to a very sick puppy and temperatures already 85 in the house at 7am. if you didn't hear, seattle's having a heat wave. and most of us don't have a/c. after a visit to the vet, we rented this.

we hunkered down in the family room with blinds closed, drapes drawn, fans a-going. oh, and a portable air conditioner that couldn't keep up.

the movie was awesome. a definite must see. it's rare that steve and i actually enjoy the same movies. in fact, we've yet to see a movie in a theater together. i do recommend watching it though without the whir of 6 fans and an a/c unit. you might catch more dialogue than i did.
