We've had alot of woodpeckers here today. The Downey Woodpeckers I see actually daily, and I read today that they mate for life and also pick a territory for life. I see about 4 regularly. So these are my new pets :)
The Pileated Woodpecker is a fave for me because I don't get to see them as often. I've noticed they mainly show up when it's raining. I also had two of them today.
We also have alot of Northern Flickers around, but I can't seem to find a photo of them on my computer :(.
Oh and of course they are cute....they all have red on the head!!

Gotta love a redhead! A few years ago we heard this horrible noise rattling the house. It was a horny woodpecker beating its beak against our chimney. I say horny because the neighbors told us that the males do that when looking for a mate (to impress her?). They better mate for life after he beats his beak into a bloody pulp. What a male won't do for a piece of tale? (Sorry, had to do it.)
Hey Ellen ~ did he have "wood"?!?!
