play day
I’ve been having a play today as my mum is coming for the week and I want to spend some time with her.
Having seen this post today I thought I would dust down my glimmer mists and have a go.
Now I just have to decide what to do with them.
I’ve just discovered this blog and loved their ideas.
So I made this card
and this one .
Next I looked at this blog and found some more inspiration
this card came from that
and finally I just had a play
and finished off with this card. (I did straighten the ribbon after seeing this!)

10 THINGS on the tenth of the month
10 Books I have enjoyed this year
1. I didn’t think I would enjoy this book as it’s written through the eyes of a 5yr old, but I was totally gripped by it.
2. A safer bet this time, I love historical novels and wanted to know more about Lady Jane Grey.
3. Couples are disappearing only to be found dead months later, Dr Kay Scarpetta is the medical examiner called in to investigate.
4. Another one out of my comfort zone. Set in Ethiopia, this is the story about twin boys born to a nun and doctor, a long but enjoyable read.
5. A ninety year old man relives his life in the circus and his love of Rosie the elephant.
6. Psychologist Joe O'Loughlin takes on the case of 14yr old Sienna, accused of killing her father.
7. Set in Afghanistan, this tells the tale of a boyhood friendship destroyed through jealousy and fear. Another book I wasn’t sure about but I’m so glad I read.
8. This book teaches you about life in the middle ages, not in a dry way but by making you feel you are actually there.
9. Two clever serial killers collaborating, makes this a difficult case for Alex Cross.
10. Two young girls accused of murder, one gets sent to prison the other is free to get on with her life. Years later events catch up with them, what really happened?

I’ve been trying so hard to get a photo of this little family but can’t get close enough, they really have been a delight to watch.

sketch challenge
Over on Shimelle’s blog here, there is a new sketch challenge.
I decided to give it a go but with the added challenge for me, to use old papers and not a kit.
This is what a came up with.
I’m in the middle of sorting out old kits and paper collections and I’m planning on actually using them!!

Inspiration
Having a nice long day to myself I thought I would do some scrapping, but where to start?
As usual I looked on Shimelle’s blog here, for some inspiration.
She had just been making a layout using this sketch, one of the challenges for Scrap Factor over on UKS. To be honest I didn’t really like the look of the sketch, it was too fussy for me but I liked the look of how she had interpreted it so thought I would have a go.
This is what a came up with an exact copy of Shimelle’s, you can follow what she does on her blog.
Lesson to me, don’t get put off by a sketch it is only there as a starting point, when you give it a go you can have a lot of fun.
Papers are lily bee from a Sarah’s Cards kit.

Grandad’s Shoes!
“Leave your shoes alone Dad!”
That is what I remember most about my Grandad, he was always touching, moving or checking the pair of shoes by the side of his chair. Being in his eighties and getting very forgetful, we all thought that was just another odd thing he used to do.
Turn back the clock to 1916, Grandad and Nanny were stationed in India, this photo shows them with two of their six children.
Grandad then became involved in The Siege of Kut-al-Amara, you can read about it here http://www.firstworldwar.com/battles/siegeofkut.htm
8000 Anglo/Indian troops were taken prisoner and began a long walk across Mesopotamia. One night, falling asleep exhausted by the roadside, Grandad had his shoes stolen off his feet. He was so tired he knew nothing about it until the morning. With nothing else to put on his feet he was forced to continue the march.
Not surprising then that in later years, the one thing he always remembered was to check his shoes!
If you would like to read more stories pop on over to Sian’s blog http://fromhighinthesky.blogspot.com/
Would just like to add, I’ve been enjoying reading all the stories but have trouble commenting on some, not sure why.
