I've been in a motherly mood today so decided to make some rolls and leek and potato soup. The soup went to plan and was delicious but disaster struck with the bread, I couldn't get the bread maker to work. Ian decided to take it apart and managed to pull a muscle in his back and I ended up making the rolls the old-fashioned way. I have to say they came out quite well but DH is having a rest and moaning in agony, perhaps I should go back to ready meals!!

colour swatches
this lesson was about making a colour swatch from your photo. This is a very useful technique as you can then colour your elements to match your photo.
A miserable day here but I have a very happy hubbie as he's just bought a new car!

The next class from Hummie was about using the brush tool to create lines for balance in a layout.

having just received my gorgeous Sarah's Cards kit I used one of their sketches for inspiration.

Catching up
I had a bit of time to myself this morning while Ian was off buying a new car, so managed to catch up a bit with my Hummies classes.
For this class we had to use some torn paper to create the title.
and this one was about using brushes.

Busy week
We have had a nice week with mum and seen a lot of the children. Jamie had to come round to show off some of his new school uniform.
Andrew had to get in on the act!
The weather has been nice enough for walks by the sea and cups of coffee.
A real holiday!!
Today we have played cricket in the garden, yes mum as well, made ice cream and biscuits and mum has taken the children to our little shop for some sweets. Just an ordinary day but it's made me realise how lucky I am to still have mum, I hope I can do as much if and when I reach her age.

Birthdays and visits
Sunday It was Alex's birthday and he came round to open some of his presents.
He seemed very pleased with it all and I'm looking forward to eating some of his ice cream when he gets round to making some.
The weather has been appalling for mum's visit so far but it hasn't stopped us getting out.
We took mum to the Spitfire Museum and she was very interested in all the war memories. They had lots of personal letters etc from young pilots who didn't make it through the war, a reminder to us of what they and their families gave up so we can be free.

medal
Mum has come for a week's holiday and wanted to show three of her great-grandchildren the medal she has just received for her work as a W.R.N in World War 2. 87 yrs old and still going strong, the war helped create a lot of very healthy people it seems.

Gradients
Finally had a bit of time to do this class from Hummie, all about using the gradient tool. It took me quite a long time to do but I managed to make the dots in the background and then pick out some colours in the photo to make my gradient to colour the spots.
David has gone back home and yes I did have a little cry after he left. I now have to get ready for mum who we are collecting on Saturday for a weeks holiday.

fun
Jamie is becoming a very good bowler.
David was a very casual wicket keeper.
Rebecca got lots of runs.
We have had a lovely few days with David and also celebrated Rebecca's birthday, she is growing up fast. The children have enjoyed playing with their three uncles and I have enjoyed spoiling them all!

I am reading
Have just started this book, another one from the TV Book Club summer read.
Ian has been to watch the cricket at Canterbury today and I have been very lazy reading, watching True Blood and playing on the computer. I've also been a bit naughty and eaten some crisps and chocolate and now feel sick!!

a quick post
I managed to do this layout today using a template from Hummie and the Dawn Inskip kit - enchanted meadow.
Life is hectic here at the moment so I'm not getting so much crafting done but that is usual during the summer. Now's the time to enjoy time with the family, the winter will be here before we know it!
Today we've had the children round and we have been playing cricket unfortunately I was enjoying the game too much to think about getting my camera. We have our eldest arriving for a few days on Saturday and between spoiling him rotten and enjoying his company I am determined to ignore his moans and take some photos.

Hummie Class
My layout for the latest Hummie class, drop down box with emphasis on journalling. It's so easy when you are shown how!
Not much to report here, was very busy with the children yesterday so have relaxed today and had a nice walk and coffee by the sea.
