PMN March Fam Pic :: Learning

PMN Fam Pic Theme for March:
LEARNING

The PMN FAM Pic Theme for this month is Learning. Let me share with you the fun learning experience I shared with my son last Feb. 11, 2008 at The Science Craze Fair held in The Nazareth School. The fair called for the participation of students and their parents to perform experiments in different stations.

At Magical Colors Station, Yohan learned that by mixing some primary colors, one can come up with different hues, also known as secondary colors.

Blue + Red
Purple
Red + Yellow
Orange
Yellow + Blue
Green

After experimenting with colors, the students were given a glass bottle for them to paint which they could bring home as a memorabilia of the Science Fair.

At Amazing Straws Station, Yohan learned about laws of inertia and force.

Yohan creating fun bubbles.

Yohan pretending to be the wind as he blows on the straw to let the paper boats sail on water.

Experimenting if air blown using a straw could make the following objects move: rock, candy wrapper, cotton, wood, paper and feather and others.

Recording his observations in a checklist provided by the teacher.

Learning together that day was fun and truly rewarding.

* Not included in the photos is the Giant Slide Station, where the kids learned about gravity.

An Evening With PMN Moms

It's fascinating how friendship can start from exchanging comments through online journals. Blogging has certainly rewarded me in so many ways and building friendships is one of the priceless rewards that I'm grateful for.

Raq (also known as Kengkay), a sweet mom from Germany, is here on vacation with her family and she invited PMN moms for a get together at Burgoo in Podium. I had a wonderful time meeting Raq and her lovely family. Her husband was very warm and friendly and I was easily won by her daughters' charms.

It was great to see Julie, Lynn, Feng, Dine and Noemi again for the second time. It was wonderful to finally meet Wenchie and Cookie in person, who were both with their lovely children.

I would like to share this photo taken that night...

L-R: Raq with daughters MC and IC, Dine, Noemi, Cookie with daughter Gaby, Wenchie with daughter Bea, Feng (center), me, Lynn and Julie.

Thanks to Raq and her family for the chocolates and the delicious dinner at Burgoo.

Special thanks to Vicki for the surprise package she sent me through Raq. Your thoughtfulness is a real blessing. Hope someday we can also meet in person.

PMN February Fam Pic ::Straight

PMN Fam Pic Theme for February:
STRAIGHT

"Uninterrupted; consecutive" ~ I can blog for several straight hours.

"In an erect posture; upright." ~ Yohan stood up straight and waited for the clown to put him inside the giant bubble in a Bubble Show during his cousin's birthday party.

"Direct and candid" ~ It's wonderful how Yohan says "I love you" straight from the heart.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

PMN January Fam Pic :: At Play

PMN Fam Pic Theme for January:
Playing Junior My First Scrabble

This is one of the gifts that Yohan received for Christmas. It's a Junior My First Scrabble given to him by his classmate, Christian. I think it's a wonderful present because it's fun and educational at the same time. It's a perfect way for Yohan to learn new words. In the picture, he is figuring out how to spell the word fox by pronouncing the letters. With some help, he was able to spell four new words.

** To be updated later to include PMN Fam Pic Round Up for January 2008 **

updated (1/07/2008): Sorry I stand corrected, it's not Junior Scrabble but My First Scrabble.

PMN December Fam Pic :: Messy

PMN Fam Pic Theme for December:
MESSY in a Fun Way

During family get togethers, I like bringing things to keep the kids busy. I usually bring some toys, books and art materials. I prefer bringing art materials because it helps the children stay put. As a mom, I'd like to see the kids busy doing fun and educational activities rather than see them running around everywhere.

I like bringing clay, clay molds, crayons, paper, paint, brushes and even disposable plastic aprons. Technically, they are disposable but I don't throw them right away. I keep them as long as they can still be used.

In the picture above, you could see me, supervising the kids in doing some art work. There was a party at my MIL's place. I bought some art materials for Yohan and his cousins. It was quite messy but the kids had a wonderful time and so did I.

Virtue of Being Kind to Animals

Dear Friends,

I would like to invite you to read my newly published article on Pinoy Moms Network (Parenting Blog) called Teaching Our Children to Be Kind to Animals.

I believe that teaching our children to be kind to animals helps in building good character. Kindness in children can be nurtured as they grow older. Hopefully, as our children mature and reach adulthood, the kindness in their hearts would have become a strong part of their personality.

Pet Blessings

Bless All Creation
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. ~ Franciscan Pet Blessing

Filipino animal lovers brought their beloved pets to church today for the annual pet blessing. Different kinds of pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, turtles, birds and other animals were blessed in some churches to celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The annual blessing of pets is a wonderful tradition to pay tribute to St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology.

I think this is a wonderful tradition. I have a friend who brings her dog to be blessed in church every year. I love my dog Bruno and although I've never brought him to church for a blessing, I always include him in my daily prayers.

In relation, to pets, I would like to invite everyone to read my recently published article entitled Welcoming a Pet in the Family on Pinoy Moms Network (Home and Garden). I would appreciate if you could leave some comments there. Thank you very much.

PMN October Fam Pic :: Green

For the month of October, the theme of PMN Fam Pics is Green. (visit link above to learn more)

My Boy in Green

I like green because it's a color that suits my son well. I would like to share some photos of my son, Yohan taken when he was two years old at Picture Co.
(Alabang).

Wearing his favorite green shirt and denim pants, Yohan charmed the young, pretty photographer with his smile. Yohan tried to win her by showing his baby muscles. Yohan was thrilled when he got a kiss from her after the photo shoot. :) Too bad I wasn't able to take a picture of them together.

Watch out for the October PMN Fam Pics Round-up. This post will be updated soon to include the round-up list.

Transformer Glossy Appeal:

Yohan loves Transformers. We watched the movie together and he had a great time. We bought him this Transformers t-shirt and it has a glossy Autobot seal on it. At the mall, Yohan saw this cool Optimus Prime helmet. It was still a little big for him but he enjoyed trying it on. The helmet had a tinge of glossy effect because of the lights.

PMN E-zine Launched

I'm thrilled because the new and exciting Pinoy Moms Network (PMN) is out and now running in full swing. The old PMN website has undergone a wonderful transformation. From a site that showcased latest members' blogs , it is now a remarkable e-zine (electronic magazine), launched last July 10, 2007. The PMN e-zine is an interesting source of original articles shared by Filipino mothers, divided into the following sections:

The PMN e-zine was conceptualized by probloggers Connie and Noemi and together with the other hardworking section editors, Annamanila, FeistyMomma, Pinoyexpat, and Sexy Mom), the PMN e-zine team is off to a great start.

We are not dictating and we claim no expertise. We are mothers and we want our voices to reverberate all over the world. - Connie
The idea of putting up an e-zine was first presented to PMN members during our successful Mommy Lunch two months ago at Swiss Deli and Bistro. Everyone gave their all out support to the project. In just two months, it's fascinating how fast the idea turned into reality. You may visit the PMN e-zine here.

Recipe for New Friendship (Pinoy Moms Network)

I had a wonderful lunch with fellow bloggers from Pinoy Moms Network yesterday (May 26, 2007) at Swiss Deli and Bistro. It was my very first EB and it was an overall delightful experience. I was so happy to meet some of the mommy bloggers. Everyone was so warm and friendly that I immediately felt comfortable and at ease.

Recipe for New Friendship

Start with a wonderful mixture of 12 lovely moms.
Combine a dozen servings of smiles and laughter.
Add heaping measures of warmth and kindness.
Plus generous portions of fascination and delight.
Then sprinkle with promising common goals.
With a touch of anticipation and excitement.
Stir in together until everything is well blended.
Then you have a friendship cake with sweet
and colorful icing.

(Standing L-R): me, Lynn, Noemi, Connie, Dine, Chats (back),
Feng (with son Nico), Cess, Julie, Lisa (with son Lex)
