Daddy

"We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Hearts are never broken
And time's forever frozen still."
Ed Sheeran

Minutes before we hugged good-bye today I asked my husband to snap a photo of me and my dad. One tight squeeze, two easy smiles...countless, loving heartbeats passing between us. The heartbeats from that moment. The heartbeats that have filled our lives as father and daughter. All of them seemed to pass between us in this moment. So, today, I needed this moment frozen. I don't know how many more heartbeats we'll share along the journey...but as long as we have memories to make, I'll be sure to freeze as many as I can.

Two are Better Than One

Well, that's been true for me, at least.
This weekend my 'other half' and I went to visit my dad.
Thursday night we worked together to fix and pack the food for our journey.
He kept me laughing in the kitchen...not always my favorite place to be!
Turns out the food was pretty darn good and ended up feeding all of us for most of the weekend.

We enjoyed many lazy hours on the back deck at my dad's house.
Perfect weather, good conversation, a little wine...
and a random blue jay who hangs out in their yard and eats the cat food!

So green. So peaceful.

My 'other half' 'better half' spent a few hours each day cleaning the yard
and trimming shrubs and moving heavy rocks.
Such a help.
Such a sweetheart!

My favorite part of the weekend was the long walk we got to take...
just the two of us.
Believe me.
I know how blessed I am to share the walks,
and the road trips...
the little moments
and the big events...
the laughter, the struggles, the victories and the joy
with my best friend.
With the one that I've loved since college.
With the one who, in spite of my "moods," always manages to make things fun!
Believe me.
I know.

Today's his birthday.
Tonight we'll grill out, hang out and stretch out together.
Like we do on most summer evenings.
On this tonight, however, we might just remember to be a bit more grateful than usual
that we get to
do this whole getting older thing
together.

Black & White Wednesday: More Rodin

It's not often that a museum is flooded with natural light.
Or that photography is allowed.
But the Rodin museum had gorgeous windows, with lots of sunlight streaming in.

And {no surprise} I really enjoyed taking lots of photos.

All the statues were magnificent.
So strong.
Muscles rippled, hands grasped, toes curled.

And the faces.
Oh...
It was the expressions captured on the faces that I found the most intriguing.

Agony, ecstasy, pride...

...tenderness.

From the hard stone...the immovable, unchanging and cold stone...a life force breathed passionately and told a story. It spoke of relationship and circumstance. It shared emotion and begged to be heard. There was artistry that surpassed craftsmanship, yet honored the craft. It brought me joy to spend an afternoon surrounded by Rodin's sculptures.

Rodin Museum {outside}

On this absolutely gorgeous fall day,
we headed to downtown Phili, and visited the Rodin Museum.
{there will be photos of some of my favorite sculptures throughout the week}
The museum and the grounds have been recently restored,
and were nothing short of dazzling!
