GET OUT THE VOTE PARTY

JOSS STONE TO PERFORM AT HEADCOUNT'S NOVEMBER 3RD"GET OUT THE VOTE PARTY" IN NEW YORK CITY

Stone to Unveil New Song, "Governmentalist," Exclusively at HeadCount.org New York, NY - October 16, 2008 - Leading voter registration group HeadCount announced today that multi-platinum soul singer Joss Stone will appear at the organization's November 3rd "Get out the Vote Party" at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, performing her new song "Governmentalist" and other favorites. The song is also available for free download at http://www.headcount.org/ beginning today, and through a link emailed to HeadCount's 100,000-person database. It will also be available on http://www.jossstone.com/ and later released on her new album, due out next year.

Stone joins an all-star lineup which already includes Robert Randolph, ?uestlove (The Roots) and Stanton Moore (Galactic) among many other at the Nov. 3rd event.. The concert will be held on Election Eve and streamed live on the Internet on iClips.net, spreading the "Vote" message to a limitless number of viewers.

Stone was first inspired to write "Governmentalist" in response to criticism she received from a U.K. government official after she spoke out against the poor medical care of Iraq War veterans. The 21-year-old British citizen then decided she wanted make her voice heard in the U.S. election in some way, leading to her involvement with HeadCount. Although unable to vote in this country, Stone is a member of the young demographic that has become increasingly politically active as the election approaches. "Governmentalist" captures the passions of her generation and its desire to hold government accountable.

"The U.S. election really does impact the entire world," said Stone. "While I can't vote in this country, I want to do what I can to inspire others, especially young voters, to make their voices heard. I can't think of a better way to release 'Governmentalist' than to partner with a group like HeadCount that actively encourages voting."

Stone has sold nearly 10 million albums worldwide and won the 2007 Grammy Award for best R&B performance by a Duo or Group. She has appeared on stage with James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Patti Labelle, Mavis Staples, Donna Summer and Smokey Robinson, and performed in front of more than 200,000 people at the Live 8 Concert.
The November 3rd "Get Out the Vote Party" marks a rare New York City appearance for Stone as well as fellow Grammy-nominee Robert Randolph. Only 500 tickets will be sold to the general public for this event, which will serve as a benefit for HeadCount's nonpartisan voter mobilization efforts.

Tickets and more information can be found at www.magichat.net/participation, as Magic Hat Brewing Co. is the presenting sponsor of the event. Absentee ballot applications can also be accessed from that site, as HeadCount is reminding anyone attending the concert from out-of-town to fill out an absentee ballot in advance. "We're excited to welcome Joss to the long list of musicians who've become involved with HeadCount," said HeadCount co-Chair Marc Brownstein, the bass player of the Disco Biscuits. "Speaking for myself and all the other musicians who are performing, I can tell you we're all excited about sharing the stage with Joss."
The concert will be the final event of HeadCount's year-long campaign to mobilize young voters. The organization worked with artists such as Dave Mathews Band, Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam to register over 100,000 voters this year, staging voter registration campaigns at nearly 1,000 at concerts.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT

THE SHOW WAS INSANE! SUCH AN INSANE SHOW…that all I can say. I mean, FIRST LVD WAS OOC (out of control) AMAZING! However, I have beef with whoever put the set list together, cuz this American Idol BIZNATCH (ALICE), should have opened the show instead of LVD. Second, she didn't even fit the vibe of the show. I seriously could have stayed home and watched Dreamgirls if I wanted to see that type of show. Also, I think LVD needed to be on a different bill...I LOVE THEM TO DEATH, but they need to do a gig with similar acts. SERIOUSLY – my friend and I were the only ones going ape shit over them – the rest of the crowd were like zombies ( I mean some peeps were screaming but there was like no energy). Im like what the ef is wrong with these people?

The crowd went crazy for Santogold and The Ting Tings, which is probably why most of them were there. In the future, LVD needs to be on a bill with like Coldplay or The Killer – something with a similar fan base! I am sure they have gotten great exposure from this, but still not the greatest fit for them! Anyhoo…LVD were once again amazing! Hopefully they gained a few more fans from the night and at least they got to play the Wiltern. Santogold was hot and one bad ass beyotch! Mates of State were RAD and the cutest mates I have ever seen.

The Ting Tings were BRILLZ but had a few tech difficulties which totally upset them. They unfortunately had a different crew for this performance, which is what brought on those tech issues, leaving them to exit the stage early – PEEPS were PISSED! I still heart them though!! And reports (we received first hand) were they had all intentions to come back to the stage last night, but the crew didn't know what to fix and how to resolve the sound issues, thus leaving all us fans angry and yearning for more TT.

GOOD NEWS is that The Ting Tings plan to make up for last night with another show in early November. I will keep you posted on all the latest with that! All in all it was an amazing night of music! LOVED IT! I have many photos to post, but I just haven't had time as of yet. The show went from 7pm to Midnight, so it was basically like a mini festival…SO TIRED today!

LOTS OF PHOTOS COMING SOON!

In the meantime, check out an acoustic version of "Shut Up And Let Me Go" on KROQ's Kevin & Bean this past Monday.

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY!

Gossip In The Grain has finally arrived! HUGE fan of this guy, so I am over the moon that his new CD is out TODAY!

If you have loved his past albums you will love this one even more! I don't even know where to begin with this guy. He's a raw talent that you don't see much of these days.

I just read this quote about Ray's new album and I couldn't agree more! "If Jesus put out an album, this would be it." Seriously, that is no lie...listening to his voice is like a a gift from GOD!

NEW MUSIC - CRYSTAL ANTLERS

If the words “chimney sweep” and “soul psychedelia” don’t go together in your mind, they just may after you take a listen to Crystal Antlers’ debut EP, the beguilingly titled EP. When the band formed in 2006, three of it’s members—including lead singer and bassist Jonny Bell—were in fact working as chimney sweeps and playing out constantly in SoCal. Getting dirty by day and by night, the band recorded two 7-inch singles before settling down to record this EP with the Mars Volta’s Ikey Owens. When the band sent us a copy earlier this year, we were blown away by its swirling guitars, dramatic organ clamor, and relentless blending of influences ranging from cinematic psych to noisy soul punk.

“Long Beach’s Crystal Antlers have mastered the art of thrash, that combustible build-up of noise and melody that so many others have tried to harness, only to fail in a miserable pool of fuzzy annoyance.” OC Weekly

“As much as it diverges from the brain-frying aim of typical psych-rock outings, EP is an unorthodox summer record-- not so much for driving to the beach as actually being in its sweltering grasp, equal parts scorched earth and wide open spaces.” Pitchfork

“Unashamed, unafraid, gritty hot-mess melodies that take cues from the Stooges, Joe Cocker, Screamin' Jay Hawkins (rest his soul) and Ozzy Osbourne.” LA Weekly

Band:
Jonny Bell- Bass, Vocals, Woodwinds, head chimney sweep/ CEO
Victor Rodriguez- Organ, son of professional Mariachi, Chihuahua enthusiast, hair
Kevin Stuart- Drums, industrial kitchen appliance repairs, lady killer
Damian Sexual Chocolate Edwards- Percussion (standing), Disneyland caterer
Andrew King- Guitar, used car salesman, 80’s h/c prodigal savant
