JOT Magazine + One Little Word | Encourage...

Hello Friends! Welcome to 2016!! I'm very excited to back and playing with paper once again! I don't know about you but sometimes during the school holidays, I get completely lost away from paper crafting and spend the time focusing on my family. Our Summer holidays are no exception. And while I enjoy having a mini break from scrapbooking commitments, I really do relish getting back into documenting our family stories.

Today I want to share my One Little Word for 2016.  It has been on my heart for a few weeks now.

Encourage.

I truly want to embrace this concept for 2016.  It is such a powerful word and so very good for the soul.  It is my sincere hope that I can offer encouragement to others, no matter the circumstances; no matter the environment. I want to be able to encourage my family, friends and even strangers. I'm not entirely sure how I will do this yet. But it will come to me.

And I want to be able to encourage myself to step out of my everyday box and brave new endeavours. I've got new adventures in the wind.

But for today I want to encourage my readers to come and play with the Jot Girls and our  fabulous Jot Magazine January mood board.

I pulled a few things from my stash including an alphabet stamp set from Scraptastic Club (sorry not shown in the pic).

And after playing and shuffling, I created this:

Don't forget to head on over to Jot Magazine and check out all the amazing features including the free EMagazines.

Jot Magazine | November Mood Board...

Hello Everyone! Up on the new look Jot blog today, November's inspirational mood board has been released!  It has fresh and vibrant colours, chosen by the very lovely Kim Jeffress. Have a little look-see!

These colours are so beautiful together that I immediately pulled out anything that was either yellow or pink, from my stash, and just started layering..!

"Happiness"

products used: cs - American Crafts; pp - Bella Blvd, Scraptastic Club, Elle's Studio;  other - Bella Blvd stickers, enamel dots, Stampin' Up clear acetate 3x4 pocket page card; tools - foam tape.

It' s a bit had to tell with this photo, but I've used a clear acetate 3x4" pocket page card from Stampin' Up (it has the stars on it). I mounted the clear layer with foam tape and then added the butterfly (cut from my silhouette) on to it. The shadows enhance the illusion that the butterfly is floating above the actual card.

The Jot Girls really have created amazing projects this month! I hope you will come along and visit the blog for more inspiration and hopefully play along with us too! Thanks for visiting..x

Jot Magazine | October Mood Board!

Hello Friends!  I am pretty excited about this month's mood board over at Jot Magazine because I had the pleasure of selecting a few Pinterest images to be brought together to try and inspire! I must of had water colour on the mind particularly as the inspiration pieces, that made it to the board, came together.. *grin*

In truth, it really was the water colour world map that started my journey through the myriad of goodness on Pinterest. I just knew that I had to incorporate the same (or similar) process on a page. Here's what I came up with..

"Happy"

products used: cs - American Crafts; pp - October Afternoon; alpha - American Crafts thickers; other - water colour paint, Heidi Swapp colorshine, black sharpie pen, OA stickers and chipboard; tools - silhouette portrait, typewriter, sewing machine.

I started out by searching for a free downloadable image via Google for a "flat world map". After saving the image and converting it to a .jpg file, I was then able to trace the outside image of the map in my silhouette software.

A lot of the detail was too fine for my cutting machine, so I removed any great lakes or small islands from the image before I sent it to be cut out from sturdy cardstock.

This then left the basic outline to use as a water colour stencil directly onto my background layout cardstock.

From my collection of Heidi Swapp colorshine mist and water colour paint palette, I proceeded to lightly brush over the openings in the stencil - allowing drying time between each colour. Add some water to your mist on a separate palette to achieve a washed out look.  Tip: Use washi tape to secure the stencil/mask to the back ground cardstock to prevent movement between each paint layer. To obtain a softness between the colours, brush the cardstock with water before adding the paint.

After my background technique was completed, I started to take other elements from the moodboard. Especially the hand drawn circles with the "focus on happy" theme.

The remainder of the layout came together very easily by adding a touch of florals (fussy cut from the October Afternoon patterned paper) and grounding all the elements with the black die cut heart shapes.

If you would like to play along with this mood board challenge... (and I'd really love for you to try it out!! *grin*) Please, come and visit the Jot Magazine blog to check out the details.  Happy scrapping and thanks for visiting here today.

Jot Magazine | September Mood Board

Hi there everyone! Today I am sharing this gorgeous mood board for Jot Magazine. All the inspiration pieces were carefully chosen by the lovely Mardi and I personally think, she's found a winner!

I really adore this colour combination and have tried to use every element on the mood board that I possible could! LOL!

"The Almost Selfie"

products used: cs - DCWV, American Crafts; pp - Maggie Holmes, Jillibean Soup; alpha - American Crafts; other - Jillibean Soup Happy Hues paint, Echo Park stickers, Crate Paper chipboard & ephemera; tools - silhouette portrait, typewriter.

The story behind this layout is quite simple! One member of our family of six, just plain refused to be in our family selfie. He was too busy enjoying himself running up and down the pathways and climbing trees to be interested in having a silly photo taken! That's life with a five year old! LOL!  So I embraced it, and took the photo without him. *grin*

As you can tell, I'm never swayed from adding a touch of pink, pretty flowers and butterflies to layouts that has a photo of my boys in it.  To me, these elements represented the outdoorsy nature I took from the mood board. Well... maybe not the pink so much...

I hope you will play along with us over at Jot. There's a great prize to be won this month (like every other month too) but I thought I'd mention that fun fact! Come on over and check out what the Jot Girls have created this month.  Thanks for visiting..x

JOT | August Mood Board...

Have you seen the latest and greatest Jot Mood Board for this month yet?  If not, you really need to hop on over to the JOT blog asap!! It is a stunner and created by the very lovely Amanda Hall.

August 2015 - by Amanda copy

I was particularly inspired by the tones of navy, delicate fret work and touches of silver...

"Hugs"

products used: cs - Kaisercraft; pp - Bella!; alpha - American Crafts; other - Bella Blvd: clear cuts, stickers; Heidi Swapp: Minc label, silver foil, silver stickers; Greatest View badges/flair; Scraptastic Club cut aparts; Kaisercraft: rub-on doily, transparent leaves; paper doily; Dear Lizzy chipboard ephemera, Maggie Holmes camera embellishment; tools - typewriter, machine stitching, Heidi Swapp Minc.

Do you see that cool background? Believe it or not, that's just a piece of navy cardstock layered with another gorgeous Bella Blvd clear cut on top! Trim both pieces to the same size and then machine stitch together. I love the effect of that woodgrain pattern.

My cluster of embellishments were gathered together if they were transparent or contained the coloured tones of Navy, Grey or Silver. After playing with the layer levels I moved onto my next adventure.. Silver foil and a Minc!

I had an absolute blast playing with my new Heidi Swapp Minc! The label holding my title was silver foiled... nice and easy as my first foray into the world of minc-ing! *grin*

If you would like to join in on the fun over at the Jot blog, I suggest you don't delay! There's too much fun to be had and I am looking forward to seeing your fabulous creations!  Link up here.  Thanks for visiting..x

Jot Magazine | July Mood Board...

Hello Friends!  Have you had a chance to check out the new July Mood Board over at Jot Magazine lately?  It is a stunner!  Created by the lovely Jot Girl Beshka, it has citrus-y tang to it that completely appeals to me!

smallJULY2015BESHKA BOARD

This is what I came up with...

products used: cs - Bazzill; pp - Studio Calico, Jillibean Soup; alpha - Bella Blvd; other - Bella Blvd stickers & chipboard; brads; tools - water colour paints, typewriter.

I was so inspired by the colours on this Mood Board that my story easily came together.  I also wanted to create a fresh look on my layout without the feminine touches. Therefore, colours + story + inspiration, culminated in a layout sharing my five year old’s passion for hockey and the crazy number of hours he spends practising.

I'm so glad I've documented this story. The Heidi Swapp "document" die inspired me to capture this snapshot of life. After all, isn't this what it's all about?  *grin*

Head on over to the JOT blog and submit your entry to win a really cool prize!  I can't wait to see what you create. Thanks for visiting...x
