FuFu Exploring Latin America
Chile - Part Three | 31st Dec 2010 - 6th Jan 2011

Heading to Valparaiso. The inter-city bus system here in Chile is very good. Everything is computerised. You can choose your seat. Well i guess our bus service in Malaysia is way too lagging behind. Wake up Minister of Transportation, upgrade our bus system please.

Terminal Alameda, Santiago, Chile

1:40pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

Arrived Valparaiso. Took Metro to my hostel. The metro system in Valparaiso, well is only designed for the local. Because if you are a tourist, you have to buy the metro card with deposit of Chilean Peso 800 (RM5++ or USD1.50 ). Then i refill 400Peso to take the ride to Miramar.

Valparaiso, Chile

4:01pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

Unfortunately, i went to a wrong district. Well the street of the hostel Ecuador 355 is located in Valparaiso, but i came to the next city Viña del Mar which is only 10mins from Valparaiso. DAMN. i noticed that every city has Street Ecuador. Gotta be careful when you google the address of the hostel. LOL I asked a guy standing outside of a hotel. He told me i came to the wrong city and gave me the map, told me which station to get off and 5blocks from there i will be at my hostel. I recharged another Peso400 into the metro card for the trip back to Bellavista.

Valparaiso, Chile

4:26pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

Finally i got to the hostel. A dormitory room with 11beds. But with only 5persons. I told the staff there i lost my debit card. He gave me a log of advices. And the other travellers also advised me to exchange my Japanese to US Dollar as it is the best and convenient way to travel in Peru. Hence i gotta go back to Santiago to exchange my Japanese and take bus to Arica the border city next to Tacna, Peru.

Bellavista, Valparaiso, Chile

4:53pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

After an hour talking with them, i decided to head out getting some fresh air and walking around the city. It is only of the important port here next to the capital city - Santiago in Chile. Also the topography makes the city so special with colourful fasade of the buildings. Lovely neighbourhood. I would suggest you drop by Valparaiso if you ever come to Santiago.

9:02pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

It is the time to feed my stomach. And i saw many stalls selling sopaipilla, a kind of fried pastry and a type of quick bread served in Chile (also Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Mexico). I bought one and applied tomato sauce and mayonaise on top. Yummy. Only Chilean Peso 100 (RM0.70, USD 0.35). After that, i bought another two pieces. LOL A cheap dinner.

Barrio Alegre, Valparaiso, Chile

9:23pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

A nice sunset view at a bridge. I was facing East, the sun set at the back.

Barrio Alegre, Valparaiso, Chile

9:29pm - 05/01/2011 - 28°C

It was cloudy this morning. Before heading back to Santiago, i had my morning walk here around the city centre. So now you can know how the city is being built. And the urbanisation is going up and up. Very densed. This reminds me of Jiu Fen, Taiwan.

Bellavista, Valparaiso, Chile

9:17am - 06/01/2011 - 22°C

Another view of the typical scene you would see in Valparaiso.

12:05pm - 06/01/2011 - 22°C

While waiting for the bus to Arica, Chile, i tried Chilean empanadas (cheese). Chilean Peso 990 (RM7, USD2) with glass of coca-cola.

Santiago, Chile

7:27pm - 06/01/2011 - 26°C

And i topped with tomato, mustard, and chili sauce. Yummy.

Santiago, Chile

7:38pm - 06/01/2011 - 26°C

The bathroom in Santiago is special. I paid Chilean Peso 250 (RM1.80, USD0.60) and the staff gave me this token in order to put into a machine to enter the bathroom, the light will change from red to green. Very high tech.

Santiago, Chile

8:53pm - 06/01/2011 - 26°C

The bathroom is clean. Worth every penny.

Santiago, Chile

9:01pm - 06/01/2011 - 26°C

Santiago, Chile

10:22pm - 06/01/2011 - 22°C

Stopped by a small city in the northern part of Chile. Ops, i bought this retro glasses, Chilean Peso 1000 (RM7, USD 2 ) in Santiago before taking the metro to the terminal. A good way to cheer myself up -> buy something to myself (a cheap one will do).

A city near Antogafasta, Chile

11:45am - 07/01/2011 - 24°C

The bus was refilling the petrol. And i still had half an hour to kill, hence i walk up to take picture of the tower.

Gotta transit here at Antogafasta. The bus will leave at 10pm to Arica, the border city next to Peru. The beach is just only 2blocks away, so i bring little FuFu to the beach for dinner.

Antogafasta, Chile

6:27pm - 07/01/2011 - 24°C

I was sitting there for almost 2hours, waiting for the sunset. NICE.

FuFu Exploring Latin America
Chile - Part Two | 31st Dec 2010 - 6th Jan 2011

When i was camwhoring, there was a family taking pictures next to me. The offered to take me picture with the poster at the entrance of the park. Nice poeple.

Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

10:21am - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

The main attraction of the park is the statue of Cristobal at the summit. Before 1pm, the only way to get up there is by foot because the furnicular car only operates at 1pm. The lady at the information told me it would take me 2hrs to get up there but it is in fact only 30-40mins. Anyway i got a map of the park from her. Going to hike up to the summit.

Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

10:32am - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

An alternative to get up there besides car and by foot, is mountain bike. lol But if you go with me, i will bring you up very quickly because i know where is the shortcut. lol

Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

10:58am - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

FuFu and little FuFu in front of the statue of Cristobal. Cristobal is exactly like our Guan Yin Ma. The statue is standing majestically at the summit.

I was sweating alot.

The memorial of Madre de Santiago

Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

12:42am - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

Though the sun is RED. But you wont feel hot at the summit. I spent almost an hour and half enjoying the view of the whole city. Slowlly observing how the city being built, developed, planned and designed. Also how green the city is. How the density is along the avenue. Oh my god... it definitely help seeing it myself instead of having the case study from journal or book. Awesome.

Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

12:38pm - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

I took the funicular down. From the park, i walked around a nice neighbour with a lot of awesome graffiti. Personally like the shops painted so nicely like this. Come to this neighbourhood if you like graffiti. You should spend 2hrs walking around zig-zaggedly like FuFu. Sure you would find something awesome you like.

Barrio Bellavista, Santiago, Chile.

1:35pm - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

The owner of this mini market saw me taking pictures of his market. He asked where am i from and quickly wanna shake hand with me once i replied. Thus i also reacted fast and snapped an picture with him.

2:39pm - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

I am drinking water more than the average amount we all need (2litres), because it is very dry and hot currently in Latin America. I guess i consume almost 4litres of tap water everyday here in Santiago. Tap water? Yes, it is yummilicious here. Well i am actually doing what the local do. Oh no, the water from Andes is oishii.

Parque Forestal, Santiago, Chile.

3:46pm - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

Snack+rest time at the park. You can see many couples, be young or old, coming to the park dating. Lying down on the grass... though it is hot, under the shade, you wont feel the heat. Phew...

Parque Forestal, Santiago, Chile.

4:12pm - 03/01/2011 - 28°C

Part of the city i like the most. Will definitely come here everyday before heading back to the hostel.

Plaza de Armas, Santiago, Chile.

8:12pm - 03/01/2011 - 23°C

It was Santiago a Mil festival last night, started at 9pm. OMG, the backdrop was too good. Everyone was heading to the stage for the musical show later. The tower is Torre Entel. The show was way too nice. Will upload the videos later ya.

Presidential Palace, Santiago, Chile.

8:33pm - 03/01/2011 - 22°C

Basically i have seen almost all about Santiago, well all tourist attractions mentioned on the map. I asked the staff where should i go before i depart to Valparaiso. He suggested me to visit a new city centre. After breakfast, i took subway to the east of the city. A lovely neighbourhood, public transportation is totallly integrated with mixed land use planning, road network, parks and social stuff.

Santiago, Chile.

11:01am - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

The typical Chilean statue at a park. Well, cant see the real stuff now, picture first.

Actually i didnt sleep well last night. The roommates were too noisy. A couple came back at 2am. And two hikers woke up early at 5am. DAMN.

Santiago, Chile.

11:42am - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

Lunch time at a park.

Santiago, Chile.

12:52pm - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

Another corner of the new city centre with all these high rise office buildings. Later i visited the largest shopping mall in Santiago which just on the right side of the picture.

Santiago, Chile.

1:36pm - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

How could FuFu not sitting on the bench and resting more for the rest of the trip?

Santiago, Chile.

3:25pm - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

I walked all the way from the new city centre to the downtown. It took me 2hrs plus. It was a scenic journey though. Along the way, i saw many awesome skyscarppers. Taking rest is a must. Because i still have a long journey to go.

Santiago, Chile.

5:07pm - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

Back to downtown. To quench my thrist, i bought a typical Chilean juice - copikue, from a type of flower, with local barley and peach. Nice.

Santiago, Chile.

6:16pm - 04/01/2011 - 25°C

The Santiago a Mil is still going on. Well after checking it out, it will continue until end of the month. Since it would be my last night in Santiago, so i decided to stay longer at the downtown instead of going back earlier. The square was packed with people.

Santiago, Chile.

8:22pm - 04/01/2011 - 23°C

After this shot, i realised that my wallet was not in my pocket. I quickly ran back to way i walked to this point. I couldnt find my wallet. Then i head back to hostel. Got online to seek help from friends to block my credit card. After my calculation and double checking, there was Chilean Peso 30000++ (RM200++ US dollar 70). But my Hiroshima University student card will not come back to me anymore. SAD.

Santiago, Chile.

9:07pm - 04/01/2011 - 22°C

Actually i brought along my HSBC debit card applied in Curitiba, Brazil too. I had it blocked by my best Curitiban friend Tatiana. The following day, i immediately go to the bank for some encashment in US Dollar to travel in Peru.

Agustinas, Santiago, Chile

9:12am - 05/01/2011 - 26°C

DAMN. FuFu lost his credit card!
