Whiff of Joy Guest Designer Call

Whiff of Joy is having a Guest Designer call. Their images are so fun to color that I couldn’t resist making a submission. I decided to take a more clean and simple approach to this card in order to let the image and my coloring really stand out.

I colored Willow with Copics and masked her with Eclipse tape. I used Mother Mark’s cloud tutorial for my sky & just lightly sponged the grey to give a hint of a sidewalk. I also used a blender pen to darken the grey around Willow and give her a bit of a shadow.

ETA:
Danielle asked how I cut the frame. Using my paper cutter, I cut across the top from the outside towards the umbrella stopping just before I reached the umbrella. Then on the right side I cut from the bottom up towards the umbrella stopping just before I reached the umbrella. I used my paper snips to cut the top of the umbrella out. When I matted the image on black, there was a corner of black hanging out from under the top of the umbrella so I just snipped off the corner of the black mat. Hope that helps.

Stamps: Whiff of Joy Willow with Umbrella
Paper: Lovely Lilac, Black, Papertrey White, GP 110
Ink: Bashful Blue, Going Grey, Momento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Copics, Ribbon from Michaels, Martha Stewart Scallop Dot punch, blender pen, white gel pen

Enjoy!

SC224 Rainy Day

This is my second post today so be sure to scroll down!

I’m off work today as the kiddos are on spring break. So I was lucky and was able to make two cards this morning!

I wanted to try Mothermark's cloud technique. I think it was really fun, fast, and easy so I'll definately be doing this again! She uses a clear mask and I thought that was a great idea - you could see what you were doing. I didn't have any acetate so I used a piece of plastic I had saved from the packaging of a child's toy (maybe it was the plastic over a Hot Wheel car). I never realized what a trash picker I was until I started writing all these things down for you guys! Ha!

I've heard people say that can't draw a cloud shape they like. So, traced mine and scanned it in for you. I used the bottom piece for this card using the Mothermark cloud technique. I use the top piece when I do clouds my usual way. I believe Windows users will be able to right click on the image below and do a File --> Save As and choose the location where you'd like to save the file. If you print on some cardstock (I use Georgia Pacific 110) you'll be able to get many uses out of this one printout!

A few technicalities: This is for your personal use. You may sell items created using this mask. You may not turn it into a stamp. You may not distribute - just send your friends here to pick it up!
Most of my usual details:

  • Here is how I colored the image.

  • I used the Cut then Ink Technique to get my layers to line up (but today I didn't cut her out! Using that cloud technique & my brand new rectangle Nesties enabled me to leave her on the original page)

  • The sidewalk is hand drawn like this.

  • The grass was done with Copics.

  • Additional raindrops were hand drawn in and highlighted with a glitter pen.
Stamps: Whiff of Joy Willow with Umbrella
Paper: Whisper White, GP 110, Elegant Eggplant
Ink: Bordering Blue
Accessories: Copics, Prismacolor pencils and Goo Gone, Nesties, fine black marker, glitter pen

Enjoy!

Mojo78 Lizzie in Red

I've had Lizzie and this house colored for quite a while waiting for just the right sketch and that time is now. The sketch from Mojo78 was perfect for this scene.

I colored my usual way. I get the various layers of the scene to line up by using my Cut then Ink Technique. The sky was sponged. Depth was created in the trees by first stamping in Old Olive (a lighter green) and then stamping darker trees in the front (Garden Green).

When I paint snowdrifts, I'll actually turn my piece upside down while I'm painting them. I ink them in a similar way. Most people put a line of blue at the peak of their snowdrifts. I like to make my drift white with a blue shadow behind it. Very realistic! I use a torn piece of paper as the mask and I actually mask off the white peak of the drift. I sponge along the top of the mask (or I guess that would be the bottom if you've turned your piece upside down). Did that make sense? NOTE TO SELF: Need visual tutorial of snow drifts! Of course, you can’t have snow without Angel Wingz Shimmerz on the drifts! And how ‘bout a little more Shimmerz on those windows!

Stamps: Whiff of Joy Lizzie with Muff, H and M Stamps Old English, Rubbernecker Kittie Kits The Moose Is Loose
Paper: Whisper White, Riding Hood Red
Ink: Soft Sky, Old Olive, Garden Green
Accessories: Copics, Prismacolor pencils and Goo Gone, Glitter Pen, Angel Wingz Shimmerz

SC220 Finally Posted

So, where am I on sketch day? GRRRRR. I got up at 4 AM and made this card. When I finished it and tried to take a pic I couldn't get it to shoot at all. I finally realized I was too close because DH had used the camera last night and had put on the telescopic lense. By the time I figured all that out, I had to leave for work. DH fixed it all up for me so here I am on my lunch hour finally getting this posted.

I decided to do an indoor scene today and let Willow bake me some cookies. I used today's Sketch Challenge as my inspiration. The Willow image and this fab DP are available from Treehouse Stamps. The floor is a hand drawn image that I digitized so I could quickly use it over and over. I just print it on some Creamy Caramel cardstock and add a little shading with my Prismacolor Pencils and Goo Gone. Willow is colored my usual way.

Stamps: Whiff of Joy Willow with Cookies
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Creamy Caramel, Basic Grey Two Scoops DP
Accessories: Copics, Prismacolor pencils and Goo Gone, Glitter Pen (on her jeans), Candlelight Shimmerz (on the “steam”)

Gotta run!

Enjoy!

Snowman’s Cabin

This was created for Sketch Challenge 214 & my ongoing Christmas Card Challenge. Wednesdays are really busy for me with work and kid's activities so I normally stay up late and do the sketch challenge before bed (2 AM!) and post it in the morning (6AM). I was feeling really tired tonight so I set my alarm to get up and do the sketch challenge in the middle of the night! Am I a sick-o or what!?!?

I'm glad to report that the drywall is all hung in my basement stamping space and it is MUCH warmer. Thanks DH! I still need to "move in" completely as I'm kinda living out of boxes.

Just my usual "stuff" here:

Cut then Ink technique - to get my layers to line up.

How I Color

I need to learn how to photograph glitter - there is glitter pen on the snowman's swirls and Angel Wingz Shimmerz on the snowy hills and paths.

Stamps: Whiff of Joy Herb with Teacup (Thank you SammySue1975!), H & M Dad’s Outdoors, Rubbernecker Kittie Kits Cause a Scene The Moose Is Loose #2, Itty Bitty Backgrounds
Paper: Whisper White, Blue Bayou
Ink: Old Olive, Soft Sky, Baja Breeze, Whisper White
Accessories: Copics, Prismacolor pencils and Goo Gone, Angel Wingz Shimmerz (on snowy hills), Glitter pen (on snowman’s swirls)
