Hot Under the Collar

What's It Wednesday #86
I'm on a quest to get things out of boxes and drawers, and have them out where I can enjoy them, or out they go. A little “late” Spring cleaning, so to speak.

This is a lovely old collar box. Men didn't have a lot of shirts back in the day so they wore them for several days. Sewing collars was a pretty big undertaking by hand, so...

celluloid collars were invented so your shirt became a “dress” shirt, and the collar was always clean. (Even if the rest wasn't!?) The box is just gorgeous with this pretty lass on the front and the fancy fasteners So feminine, but they were made to hold men's collars. The top for collars and the bottom for cuffs.

“Collars and Cuffs” embossed on the top. I love the look of it. Are you getting hot, yet?

I have a few beaded collars and wanted to use them in a special way. I took this old frame and lined it with lace. Then I displayed my gold beaded collar, (and a bit of bling of course!) That's all it took, and I was on a roll!

This was fun! I lined this gorgeous frame with burlap and an over lay of lace. I added three beaded collars with cameos as the fasteners ( That's a 2 for!)

I ran a strip of silk down the center so the collar backs didn't show. (There are labels there.) Not very romantic.

There you have it, out of the drawer and where I can enjoy them. Now are you hot under the collar, too?
Hugs,
Patti

Cameo Appearance

Cameos have been around in some form as early as the third century B.C. They are carved in relief from compressed layers to reveal a portrait or scene in a contrasting color.

Initially cameos were not worn as jewelry, but were carved from gemstones as objects of art representing Greek Gods or Roman soldiers.

They have experienced periodic revivals over the centuries, the last being in the 18th and 19th century.

Now, most cameos are carved from shell to be worn as jewelry.

I have a few pieces that have unique colors or unusual forms

like this sweet old compact

or this darling pill box.

Some I use in my bottle making.

But my largest collection is black with white relief. I tend to look for the gorgeous ladies with flowing hair. They are grouped together and displayed in this dish. I noticed how most face the right, hmm?

Since I'm a lefty, I’ve now started looking for left facing cameos.

I found this cutie and she pushed all my buttons. I love her, and I love cameos! Hope you enjoyed them too.
Hugs,
Patti
