More on McCain's Election Problems

>> Thursday, November 20, 2008

This is probably the most succinct treatise on the weaknesses McCain brings to a presidential campaign. The first, of course, being that McCain holds many more liberal positions than President Bush. As readers of this blog already know, McCain wasn't even my fourth choice for the Republican nomination. Until Sarah joined the campaign there wasn't a reason for me to get involved.

Here is my list of reasons that McCain couldn't get support from the middle:

I ended up doing work for the McCain/Palin campaign and voting for the ticket. The reason is the Supreme Court. Of all things that President Obama can and will do, any slots he fills in the Supreme Court will last for a generation. Any legislation, any regulatory changes, anything short of World War V (yes 5), can be undone.

Is It OK for Teachers to Make Small Children Cry?

>> Friday, November 07, 2008

This was filmed by Finnish documentarians making a film about Obama supporters. The teacher, Dintha Harris (who was in Ashville but now teaches in Cumberland County, N.C. near Fort Bragg) brought a student to tears over her support of John McCain.

Take your time and really watch this. (It's ok to skip the first few seconds- unless you understand Finnish) Via Allahpundit.

In the interview after the classroom piece the teacher says that she didn't browbeat the child when she chose John McCain and just moved on. Really? Telling this little girl that her daddy is going to be in the military for another hundred years is moving on? Why don't you just kick her dog while you're at it, lady?

Would you be OK with a teacher in your school doing that to a child? Why or why not? And what would you do about it?

Are you kidding me?

>> Wednesday, November 05, 2008

I really don't understand how 59 million people wanted to vote themselves into poverty. I just don't get it.

Obama has told us that he's going to bankrupt entire industries and raise taxes on everyone who pays taxes. He also thinks it's okay to kill babies that have been born alive.

But here are the items on his agenda that have me truly concerned.
1. He wants to create a Gestapo...err I mean a Civilian National Defense Force that is just as powerful as the existing military. Does anyone else question WHY?
2. His first reaction to dissent is to shut you down with legal and/or media onslaught. Even the media gets this treatment. See "Joe the Plumber", county sheriffs in Missouri, journalists that actually ask questions, and
3. The "Fairness" Doctrine, which of course is designed to shut down conservative shows.
4. Cap-and-Trade. This is where the economy tanks and you lose your freedoms for no good reason. All of mankind's activity - all breathing, farting, fire burning, heating, cooking, gas using, coal burning - all of it only accounts for around 1% of the C02 in the air. The oceans are the number 1 source and decomposing soil is number 2. The oceans cover 70% of the planet after all. So, cap and trade will not only try to regulate a gas that occurs naturally, mankind is hardly responsible for, and is NEEDED for life to exist on the planet.

Oh, and the consensus now is that the Sun has more to do with our planets global temperature than anything else. That makes sense, have you ever noticed the difference in temperature...say between night and day? Or between Summer and Winter?

I hope I'm wrong. But, even before the election, Democrats in Congress were crowing about how many freedoms they were going to take away from us. And happy about it.

I just don't understand how there could be 59 million under informed people out there.

Jody's two cents:
Prediction: Nothing will come of the voter fraud that surely occurred (there were two documented cases on our local news last night in Obama's favor) until the “middle class” has disappeared into poverty (instead of trending the other way, like it has been for years) and the downtrodden begin yelling about how he isn’t a “natural born” citizen and he cheated to get elected. Oh yeah, then it will all matter.

One question, though... Can we stop with all the "blacks can't get ahead" crap now?

Until then we're heading out to buy a couple guns. No way I'm going to be without... I may need to hunt for food or protect myself from the Civilian National Defense Force.

Are You A Wild Pig?

>> Monday, November 03, 2008

I received this from a friend the other day and though I had seen it before I really think it makes a good point and was worth sharing again...

A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (an exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punchline. The young man said this was no joke. ' You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America .. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spread ing the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose our freedoms -- just a little at a time.

One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch! And, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

So, if you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this link on to your friends.

If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably leave me a nasty comment, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

In this 'very important' election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you !!

Just maybe you will be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America ..

'A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.'

Biden his time

Why is Senator Biden running for reelection...for the Senate.

Could it be that he wants something to do in January? I mean there wouldn't be any other reason to run for both offices unless he thought that the lower office was the only one he would be sitting in after January 20th. Here's hoping the voters in Delaware wake up and leave him without a job.

Obama Insider Switches to McCain

>> Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Don't expect to see this published much of anywhere.

A former speech writer for Senator Obama has officially declared herself for McCain/Palin. Her reasons are the obvious; overt sexism, socialism and elitism from the Obama machine. Of course, all of that was aided, abetted and encouraged by a willing media. However, the people are noticing and responding with their pocketbook.

Now, if we can just "help" these Congress Critters into retirement....

Senator Kennedy wants to have the plan to destroy healthcare in the United States ready for the next president to sign. Obama is ready.

If that doesn't motivate you to vote for McCain/Palin, how about these?

There are many, many more.

Like in Florida.
But what's wrong with socialism anyway?

Updates:
Here's some good stuff from our choice in the caucuses.

And here are some things the media needs to be curious about. Note the end where $200 million of Obama's campaign contributions are suspect and that Obama may be Constitutionally disqualified for the Presidency (fingers crossed - note that the ruling is not signed by the judge, the documents have just been prepared). Gird Your Loins

>> Tuesday, October 21, 2008

It was funny to me that Biden said these words because they were actually in part of a Bible study I'm doing of 1Peter.

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
15 but as He who called you in holy, you also be holy in all you conduct,
16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

Now, there are many, many places where you can read what has been said about Biden's speech: this one from Glenn Beck today is quite good and this one from ABC News has the quotes word for word.

As for what the man was saying... I think it's just another reason to not vote for Obama. All this time they have been telling us that we need to vote for him because the "world likes him". Now Biden tells us that there are "four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities.

So, Joe... Can I call you Joe? Are you saying that they won't pull that with McCain because they know there will be no talking it through and that retribution will follow???

But what I want to get to is the Bible verse itself... Namely this part: rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

While Obama spreads his message of hope that people are clinging to because, well, I honestly don't know why they are clinging to that word so much, but they are...

Just remember this: Barack Obama is not the Messiah.

McCain Says He's Going for the "Goofy Vote"

>> Tuesday, October 14, 2008

That was his joking response to the story that came out today that ACORN registered Mickey Mouse to vote in Florida.

Now I'm not saying that Obama has anything to do with all these false registrations (all over the country) that Acorn is turning in (stories here, here and here).

And, again, Obama is distancing himself from yet another group that he has supported, claiming that he never "organized for them". Well, ACORN's spokesman has already said that Obama conducted two unpaid training sessions for the Chicago affiliate and he was the lead attourney in a 1995 lawsuit in Chicago.

The ties that bind Barack Obama to so many corrupt and questionable people and groups are beginning to tie him up. I'm just so confused how people can continue to support him so feverently.

For some really fun reading check out the Obama Birth Certificate Lawsuit. If he was born in Kenya he may not be a natural born citizen, which you must be to be President. Apparently this was begun by a Democrat... Oh, and Obama won't release his college transcripts (I didn't know those were privledged...) and the thought is that they would show that he was registered as a national of Kenya... Nice...

I'm Afraid This is Only the Beginning of the Division

>> Tuesday, September 23, 2008

OK, so I got this email the other day (name and website removed to protect the intolerant)

Hi, Jody.
My stats indicate that you've posted a link to my blog on your website. While I'm flattered that you would choose to link to me, your site includes political content with which I do not want to be associated. I would like to ask that you please remove the link to my blog from your site.

Thank you so much for your help with this.
I found this funny for a couple of reasons...
  1. In my blog world any links are good links.
  2. That link had been there for quite a while.
  3. If her stat counter showed activity from my site that means people were visiting her. Isn't that good?
  4. People visiting from my site already know my politics and aren't going to be offended if you're some freaky tree-hugging-placenta burying Wiccan. They are visiting for your crafts.
Yep, it was a link to a craft site.

So, because my politics differ from hers she doesn't want my link on her site.

So I responded with "As you wish"... but here's what bothers me...

While I am absolutely terrified at the thought of Barack Obama becoming president and am almost as scared as what will happen if he doesn't. Because you know that everyone who voted against him will be termed a "racist" and "intolerant". And the election will have been "stolen" or "rigged". Because, as I was told in the Des Moines Register the other day, "the majority of the country backs him". Since most of the polls have had the country split practically evenly for weeks I am wondering where that information came from...

As an aside...

Can anyone tell me why those who preach tolerance are so intolerant of conservative views?

Also, why where there more arrests during the RNC (800) than the DNC (152)?

Just curious...

"Articulate" Obama

Quite a while back Doug posted a sound byte of Obama giving a speech without a teleprompter. It was all but impossible for me to listen to. Now Doug has linked a video (below) which is not so bad but is still plenty painful to listen to. Seeing it almost makes me feel sorry for the man.

I took speech classes in high school and even at it's very worst I never heard anyone stammer and stutter like this.

Don't watch if you like to watch articulate speakers...

I Just Got a Warm Tingly Feeling Inside

>> Thursday, September 04, 2008

If any of you have been following the conversations with Seeker about politics I want to share this with you:

Well after having rattled the democrats cages, and the republicans cages, and
getting very valid arguments from both, I am STILL a little unsure about who is
going to do the best job. I have to admit, you republicans can argue your
points. I was very impressed with Sarah Palin's speech last night, and the more
I think about how much money is going to go to people who are not "putting out"
(thank you Jody)with Obama's plan, the more Im ready to vote McCain. As much as
I don't agree with SOME things the Repubs are selling, I can plainly see that
they will probably do a better job. Jody, Im impressed with your ability to not
take things I've said personally and just stick with the facts. Kudos. You've
done well. For all others who have a bad taste in there mouth over what Ive
said, maybe YOU should talk to Jody about how to not take everything so
personally, and know that there was a purpose to my rants, even if those
purposes are purely my own. As for my "hiding my identity" Im sure Jody knows
who it is, and that's enough for me.

This is pretty high compliment for me, thank you. I appreciate the debate and, whether anyone sees it, I do look very closely at views from both sides. Which is why my opinions may seem self-righteous- I've done my homework and know how I stand. How does that old country song go- "You gotta stand for something or you'll fall for anything"...

I rarely agree with any individual party (and have been very critical of the GOP during the past 4 years) but, unfortunately, no one party or candidate is perfect. You have to choose the candidate that most fits your views and ideals.

That said, Sarah Palin gave a very powerful speech last night. I teared up a couple of times (especially when they spotlighted the POW that was with McCain- you could see he was moved by the tribute) and when she spoke of her baby. And I laughed at the humorous jabs she took at some of Obama's past statements. And at the Hockey Mom joke. (The difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick!) Her use of humor is spot-on and will carry her through the upcoming months with grace and poise.

The problem with politics is that people get passionate about where they stand and with passion comes a personal connection. It's difficult to remove that for many, many people (hence violent protests and name calling).

As for knowing who you are, I really don't. I even went into my visitor paths from my stats... But with so many returning visitors from Minnesota to Florida, San Francisco to London, Australia to Alaska in the last 2 days I can't really pinpoint who you are. And that's ok. I don't require that people disclose who they are as everyone who reads and comments here (with just a couple exceptions) have always been kind and respectful.

So, Seeker, I'm glad I was able to help you along in your decision on politics this year (no matter which way you end up swinging) and, as I said before, I welcome your discussion. (Just, please don't call me boring again!)

Pool Aid : Part Duh

>> Monday, September 01, 2008

Oh, Seeker... Thank you for giving me so much to write about on this glorious Labor Day. Which, incidentally, will be "tax freedom" day if Obama gets into office...

Unfortunately things seemed to disintegrate while I was away from my computer and enjoying the day... There's so much to say that it will take another entire post...

If you're just catching up read the first post here.

So, with so much happening today I suppose I'll begin picking apart comments...

Yeah, and what exactly is "old man rivers" going to do for you? McCain is the same old same old that has been in office for the last eight years, but I guess if your going to defend the "republican" side, then tell me exactly what BUSH has done for our Nation?

Unfortunately politics is an "old boys" club. That's what's wrong with it. McCain is not my choice as the "best man for the job". That said, when given a wide choice of running mates Obama went with the "same old" that has been in office for 30+ years. At least McCain picked "fresh blood", untainted by the "Beltway mentality".

I am not defending the Republican side. I am an Independent. I have voted Dem,I have voted Independent and I have voted Republican. I do not vote party line, I vote for who I believe is best qualified, no matter the letter after their name. And why, when you have no argument, do liberals always go back to "but what has BUSH done for you?" Must I remind you that Bush isn't running? He is not the topic of this conversation.

Whoever said life was fair. Yeah its not fair that theres a single mother
with five kids using your tax dollars to survive, but what about the mother that
is working two jobs and just can't make ends meet, who's also paying taxes who's
using your tax dollars to survive? What would you have said to your mother had
she used tax dollars to survive when you were growing up? Would you berate her
as you do others? It's not as cut and dry as you think, but do we throw the
whole basket of apples in the trash because one is rotten?

Noone said life is fair. Personal choices play a big role and if you make bad personal choices you need to stand up and face the consequnces. I have no problem with people who use welfare to pick themselves up and move on with their life. I never said I did. My problem is with the system that makes it practically impossible to get off welfare.

The reason I speak so much about welfare is because I do have first hand experience with it. My mother did take public assistance. I do not berate her for it, she had 4 kids to feed; she had no choice. The problem lies in the fact that there is no "weaning" system from welfare. You are on it or you are off it. The minute my mom took a job she lost all benefits. The system makes it all but impossible to get off welfare which leaves people on it until they make the very difficult choice to do without so that one day they can do better and change their family tree.

I don't need to ambush you with "facts" because I am a free thinker so yeah
I haven't studied up on all the points I would need to win against you in an
argument, but I do know that change is important, and Obama is offering it, and
McCain is offering....what? More tax breaks for the richest 5% of our nation,
more money on a war that I sure as hell did not advocate? What is he going to do
for this nation that is so great. Im not a person who listens to other people
when they say "you should vote for such and such" until I know what each party
stands for, so tell me why I should vote McCain over Obama. Its amazing how
unfeeling your response is.

To be taken seriously in a discussion I'm afraid you need to have some facts to back you up. Sure Obama is offering change, but if you really study it you'll see just how much his change is going to cost. Here are just a few bits of his plan:
A $65 billion-a-year health plan
$15 billion in green energy spending
$85 billion in tax cuts and credits
A $25 billion-a-year increase in foreign aid
$18 billion a year in education spending
$3.5 billion for a national service plan
Put it all together, and we are talking about a $200 billon plan, $800 billion over four years. And that does not even include fixing the alternative minimum tax, a $50 billion-a-year item that will assuredly get passed.

I can assure you that all the money needed is going to come from tax paying citizens. And the middle class will, again, be the hardest hit. Because as these taxes go up, even if they go up for large companies and wealthy citizens, the trickle down effect will begin.

As businesses begin to pay out more in taxes they will have to cut jobs. If all large companies are cutting jobs where will all these workers go? Sure, Obama is promising to create jobs, but that, too, will take money. And if people are losing jobs then who is paying the taxes necessary to fund all the new government jobs? Obama's plan is too expensive and will do nothing to get our country out of debt; it will, however, collapse the small businesses the economy relies on.

I'm surprised you found my response unfeeling... I "felt" alot as I was writing it. Maybe it was just too factual for you? Maybe I should have used more feeling words? Unfortunately, facts are necessary when deciding the future our country should take.

I'm not so much voting for McCain as voting against Obama. As much as I dearly wish there was a candidate I could say I fully support, there isn't. So here is why I am voting against Barack Obama:

1) Life is sacred to me. Obama voted against banning partial birth abortion. This is an appauling practice where the baby is "partially" born (the head is out of the mother's body but the torso still remains in her) and then the baby is killed as it takes it's first breath. This is murder.

2) Raising taxes is not the answer to rid America of our debt. Anyone who has to pay their own bills and support a family knows this. You do not borrow your way out of debt. It is time the government (all of them) realized this.

3) I do not believe in socialized medicine. Do your research on this. You will see that it really doesn't work. Yes, our healthcare system has problems, but not as many as the system in the UK (which is socialized) or Germany (and they are actually planning to turn to private health care).

4) I don't think Obama has the experience necessary. He's a one term senator. He would be a president overseeing a war- yet he has no war experience.

5) The people he calls "friends" scare me. Racists, terrorists, another friend with terrorist ties, a terrorist sympathizer, wait... another terrorist... seriously... another terrorist... and an indicted extortionist and money launderer. It is said that you surround yourself with people you want to emulate or people you have much in common with. Either way I am terrified by his choices.

OK... now on to the next bit...

A large plagerized bit from an undisclosed source (that's a no-no, you should always list your sources) was left comparing the Obama's marriage to the McCain's. I'm not really sure why this is an issue when no one had a problem with John Kerry marrying the Heinz heiress...

But more than that, are you saying that because there was money involved there is no love? I don't think you, or anyone in the media, has the right to speculate on what makes a marriage work. Unless, of course, it's the Enquirer... That's how they make their money.

And about Barack doing the grocery shopping... We here in Iowa got to hear his woes of the price of arugula. Yep, he's in touch with the "regular people".

Wow... this is getting long...

The next comment from Seeker went like this:

The fact that you think Im making a personal attack is ludacris, because
last time I checked it was a free country. If you only welcome people who think
like you to respond to a blog, then I guess I can see more of where youre at in
your line of thinking. I was simply making the statement that I would rather
have a "couple" like the Obama's making decisions for me than I would the
McCains, and my last comment was meant to clearly state the interactions between
the two couples, since I'm not up on the facts of their daily lives per say. I
apoligize if you have been insulted by my statements. Like many Americans, I too
have had it rough, and I too have worked very hard to get myself where Im at, so
don't lump me in the same catagory as those who are not giving 100% or even 50%
just because I choose the democratic side. The fact of the matter is is we all
need to look out for each other, and I don't feel that the last decade has been
about that, and I certainly hope that the next decade isn't either. When is the
last time you voluteered to read a book to a child that was left behind, how
about teaching a young single mother some parenting skills? Anyone? Bush?
Anyone? This is what its going to take to make America what it SHOULD BE.
Everyone being for everyone, and encouraging each other to be better. Lastly,
who decided without my consent to invade a country and spend 300 billion a day?
Talk about a waste of tax dollars?

Apparently someone thought I was commenting... Unfortunately it was not me, but my mother. So, yes, Seeker, I do welcome all comments and no, I didn't see any personal attacks in your previous comment. But what you seemed to miss was a bit more important:

I'm well aware of working three jobs while raising my children, getting a 4 year degree in 4 years and working myself out of poverty and how rough it is. Yes, I got some help but I worked myself out of it as soon as possible and now my WEEKLY tax bite is about $400. It is a sad commentary that most people are willing to accept an entitlement then complain that it is not enough instead of getting an education or finding a way to get out of the system, and even sadder that the system perpetuates itself by telling people who want to better themselves that they don't want to get a better or another job "or you will loose your benefits."

I don't "lump" people together. I encourage people on their own merits. I am very involved with my church, volunteer with missions work, help at local shelters and food banks and make donations to causes I believe in. And if you're going by "couples" please take a look at all Laura Bush has done for those people you laid out in your comment.

And about the war... It was voted upon with the most up to date information available at the time. Our congress passed the bill. Take that matter up with your elected official because his (or her) vote was your vote. The only reason the war isn't over is because we went in and then congress decided to take away funding. Had the war been fought correctly it would be done.

And for your final comment:

My last comment on this blog is this: Maybe Palin should stay home and take responsibility for her 17 year old daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock. Luckily her mother and father have alot of money because she "cant depend on welfare" and she can't have an abortion, that is if the republicans have their way. Now THAT is a personal attack.

You might want to step back on that one...

Are you saying that all unwed teenaged mothers were raised by unfit parents? Because there are 750,000 teen pregnancies annually - are you saying there are over one million unfit parents?

And, though you may not see it, people who believe in life see babies as a blessing, not a "punishment". The Palin family welcomes this baby as a blessing- who are you to say that it is not?

The money bit... Sarah Palin's husband is a fisherman. Last I saw that wasn't really a trillion dollar a year job...

Just as an aside... Palin's husband quit his job with BP to prevent a conflict of interest when pipeline negotiations began. Michelle Obama, however, was given a promotion when her husband became a senator and then her employer received a $1 million dollar earmark, requested by the senator. Coincidence?

Whew...

That was long... Thanks to everyone who stuck through it. If you're up for just a bit more, here is a link to a great piece called A Tale of Two Parties. It's a true story of how a Democrat became a Republican.

Seeker- you are welcome to comment here any time, it makes for lively debate. Just, please, make sure you know that others comment here, too, and be sure you know who has said what.

Now I'm off to kiss my daughters and to thank my God for the blessed life He has bestowed upon me.

Someone's Had a Bit Too Much Kool Aid

>> Sunday, August 31, 2008

I had this comment waiting for me in my comments about McCain choosing Palin as his VP and I just had to share it. Basically because this is the substance of so many liberal arguments.

Of course you know I will not agree with you since Im for the people and democratic. When it come to John and Cindy McCain and Palin, gag me, and lets go shopping for another house or another jet while American families starve and have no jobs. Yahhhhh sounds fabulous. And lets destroy our Alaskan wilderness so we can save money on gas...hahhaha sounds fun. And lets not worry about the animals that contribute to our ecosytem as their slowly dying of starvation...sounds like a winner to me. And lets put laws on women's bodies so that we look "right" in the eyes of the Catholic church. That's all I have to say about that.

And yeah I know my use of english is bad

Personally I think this comment deserves a full reply... So here goes...
Seeker- while I will not berate you for your improper use of English I will pick on you for your invalid and weak arguements.

"For the people" means democrat? Really? Last I knew "for the people" meant freedoms and rights. Unless, of course, your version of "for the people" means "take from those who work and give to those who don't". I've been so poor that peanut butter and Ramen noodles were the only foods we had to eat. My husband and I have worked hard over our lives to have what we have. We sacrificed much. If we can do it, anyone can. Neither of us were privledged; I lived with my mom and three siblings in a one bedroom house. My mom worked three jobs. So don't tell me about American families starving. I've been there. With hard work and determination you can get out of it. Unfortunately too many people feel like they are owed...

As for homes... Quick- tell me all the homes your spouse's family owns. Because that's what you expect John McCain to do. Those aren't his homes... Those are homes owned and purchased by his wife's family that are in a trust that she just happens to oversee. Quit worshiping at the alter of Obama and do your research.

As for jets, Palin sold the jet the previous governor purchased. And I believe your candidate bought a bigger one not long ago ... So maybe you should take that up with him...

Now, about the Alaskan wilderness. Do you know how big ANWR is? Are you aware that where drilling would occur there is not even a tree within 700 miles? Here's a bit of info to help you with this research.

Could you please tell me which animals that contribute to the ecosystem are slowly dying of starvation? Surely you don’t mean polar bears? Because for every article or scientist that says they are declining I can show you one that says they are increasing in number. Like this one: Professor J. Scott Armstrong of the Wharton School says, “To list a species that is currently in good health as an endangered species requires valid forecasts that its population would decline to levels that threaten its viability. In fact, the polar bear populations have been increasing rapidly in recent decades due to hunting restrictions. Assuming these restrictions remain, the most appropriate forecast is to assume that the upward trend would continue for a few years, then level off.
Maybe you mean the bats that are being killed by wind turbines? Because I agree that is a problem. Bats eat mosquitos and we have way too many mosquitos this year...
I'm pretty sure you don't mean deer... Or bobcats... Or prairie chickens... In fact, many cities and states are having trouble controling their animal populations...

Now, I'm not against alternative energy. But I'm not willing to pay insane amounts to drive my car or heat my home until that technology is developed. Drill now, work on alternative methods now. One day we won't be dependent on oil. Great. But now we are and the people (who you claim to be "for") can't afford to pay $4, $5, $6 per gallon for gas. Nor can they afford to fund government programs to develop new technologies. It's not an all or nothing proposition- but there must be give and take.

As for laws on women's bodies... It has nothing to do with the Catholic church... It has to do with right and wrong. If abortion is ok please tell me why, if you kill a pregnant woman, you are charged with two counts of murder? Because you are killing two people. Pretty straight forward... It's murder. Abortion kills babies. Abortion is murder. Pretty black and white...

You are always welcome to voice your opinion here, but, please, come armed with some facts. Otherwise you just appear foolish.

I Think I'm Impressed...

>> Friday, August 29, 2008

Actually, I'm pretty darn sure I am. John McCain chose a running mate I can get behind. He chose a strong, pro-life, conservative woman. And, not only a woman but a mother of 5. Who has what no presidential or vice presidential candidate has: executive experience.

So, who is Alaska Governor Sarah Palin? That's a good question. She wasn't on the "radar" really and very few people know about her. But why should that stop reporters from yelling that she's "inexperienced" (hmmm... she's run a state... not one of the other candidates have run anything...) and pulling the "but she's a mom, what about the kids?" card (funny, you never hear that about dads...)

Here is some info I have been able to find (along with the links so you can continue your research)

Bravo, John McCain. With a strong, sensible, no-nonsense woman as your VP I can now throw my support behind you.

Some of the Country's Smartest Minds Discuss the Economy

>> Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Doug and I talk a lot about the state of the US economy. And there is a lot of blame focused at our President. I don’t know how many people realize that it’s actually our Congress that holds the purse strings here in the US. You know… the democratic congress that promised change when they took over the majority 2 years ago.

Well… We got change. And, really, it’s our own fault for not reminding our elected officials sooner that they work for us- We The People.

As you all know, Doug and I have been taking a financial course and have been learning to manage our own money wisely and get out of debt. I honestly believe our elected officials need the same type of training. Maybe if they could learn to stay within the federal budget and not borrow from other countries and “pots” of money we wouldn’t be in the mess we are. It seems like a daunting task, I know. And it will take years for them to get us out of the mess we’ve gotten in to over the past few decades. But it can be done, of that I’m sure. It just means cutbacks in unnecessary spending. Things like medical and educational coverage for illegal aliens would have to go… And so would unnecessary spending (bridges to nowhere and bio-domes come to mind)… And people might have to start relying on themselves a bit more instead of expecting the government to bail them out every time they screw up or something bad happens (and not a moment too soon, in my opinion)… Basically our government needs to handle the necessities: protecting our borders and maintaining our roads. Period. Everything else is cake.

Of course that is only my opinion. There are people who are smarter than me (like Warren Buffett, Pete Peterson & Dave Walker) who have much more thorough ideas. And you can hear their thoughts in one place and see the documentary I.O.U.S.A. on August 21 in theaters nationwide. Check out this preview:

The showing is presented by Fathom Events (which did a great job with the Glenn Beck tour I saw a few weeks back) and is broadcast to a comfortable theater near you. I think this is something every American should see. The days of being uninformed are over, people. It's time for all of us to take part.
