Oddities and such

I had a busy weekend but it was a good one.  Friday wasn’t all that fun though, I had to get allergy testing done.  I’ve mentioned recently, that I’m really struggling with asthma. Its scary and I really need to get it under control so I looked up an asthma and allergy specialist.  I really like the Dr and he’s nice. Come to find out, I’m allergic to grass, trees, pollen, weeds and the main one is dust.  The good news is that I’m not allergic to dogs which I was pretty nervous about since both of ours sleep in bed with us. LOL
43 needle pricks

3 hours later still itchy

It sucks!!! I have never had asthma until 8 years ago and I used to live outside as a kid growing up.  I have a consultation in a few weeks to see what avenue I’ll be taking such as shots, nose drops, etc.   So that was a good time!!  My arms still have little tiny bruises down my arm today.  I also am not sleeping well because the inhaler that I have to do every night is keeping me awake.  Yay.

Saturday, my cousin Monya and I went downtown Dallas to Fair Park to enter a very different show. Its called Oddities and Curiosities and it was great!!  It was bigger than I thought it would be and it got crowded.  There was a lot of very interesting booths there and some great artists.  Lots of taxidermy and skulls of insects, rodents, and large animals which got a little boring after a while. I bought some candles that had pretty pictures, we both got t-shirts of the event, I got a bracelet and some pretty crystals and a few funny stickers.  I have a thing of doll head planters. I have lots of them around my house that have cactus plants in them.  So what was funny, my cousin said that the event looks like my house. I laughed and took it as a compliment. Haha!  Apparently, doll heads inspire many others. There were lots and lots of creations with doll parts. One booth took stuffed animals and replaced their faces with crazy scary faces.  So funny!  There was a display from Ripley's Believe it or not that houses a show in their building a few towns over. The show isn’t for everyone and many of the booths didn’t appeal to me but most of them did.  It was very fun and some talented artists were there.

Later on that day, I got to spend 2 hours at the hospital to visit my friend who was in the car wreck. She’s improving a little each day but she has a long road. She very much is a brain injury patient with limited memory. It was so good to see her because she’s alive!!!

Sunday, I joined a friend in Canton the huge flea market and it was a fun day. I got some vintage purses, some Harley floor mats and some plants.  Afterwards, I picked up my Mom who was staying with my uncle to assist him after his knee surgery. It was nice that she could help him out and they got to spend some good time together.   Now, I’m looking forward to hanging out with her.  When Nanny passed, Mom rearranged her outgoing flight because she had already just bought her ticket to fly in this month.  My niece is graduating high school next month so after that, mom will go home back to Montana.

I have one week to get final touches done for my junk show and the gala for Refuge for Women. I'm on the run now!

Some music for today

Happy Thursday y'all!!!  I am so excited for this 3 day weekend coming up.  I really dont have big plans but its nice to have some more time away from work and to get ready for our vacation .  We leave next Friday. I am going out to East Texas to see Nanny on Monday.  I make a point to see her once a month at least. I'm heading to Canton this Saturday with my Canton partner in crime for the day.  Cant wait to see what treasures lay in store for us.  We have some dinner plans with some friends over the weekend.  It will be busy but nice! Do you have any Labor Day plans?
I have 2 songs i want to play for yall today and they could be more different from one another.

This first song is a Christian contemporary song called Lift your head Weary Sinner( Chains) by Crowder.   I really like it!  Its got a nice beat and it really doesnt seem like a christian song until you hear the lyrics.  I think it leans more like a country song..

Lift your head weary sinner, the river's just ahead
Down the path of forgiveness, salvation's waiting there
You built a mighty fortress 10,000 burdens high
Love is here to lift you up, here to lift you high

If you're lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide

All who've strayed and walked away, unspeakable things you've done
Fix your eyes on the mountain, let the past be dead and gone
Come all saints and sinners, you can't outrun God
Whatever you've done can't overcome the power of the blood

If you're lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide

If you're lost and wrecked again
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory be open wide

If you're lost and wandering
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory open wide

If you're lost and wrecked again
Come stumbling in like a prodigal child
See the walls start crumbling
Let the gates of glory be open wide
Let the gates of glory be open wide
Let the gates of glory be open wide

What did you think about that?

This next song is on the hard rock countdown and i love it when it plays while i'm driving!
The name of the song is called Footsteps by Pop Evil.  I am not a fan of the band name but i sure like their music so far!! With a name like Pop Evil you would think its heavier than it is .
I've been counting all my steps
All my no's just turned to yes
Silently I must confess
My troubled history
That's washed away all my sins
Starting over once again
This is where it all begins
It's right in front of me
Down is not where I belong
This aching heart won't turn to stone
There's a fire inside these bones
It was meant to be
I see the world still full of light
How could I ever be so blind
I still haven't lost my fight
That haunts me in my sleep

I feel like waking up
I've had this dream before
I'll take these footsteps
Go higher, go higher
I've walked an empty mile
Wore down this lonely soul
I'll take these footsteps
Go higher, go higher
(Woohoooo woohoooo woohoooo...)
Higher, go higher
(Woohoooo woohoooo woohoooo...)
Higher, higher

I know only time will tell
If all the cards will treat me well
Cause this hand that I been dealt
Keeps me wondering
So now here I turn the page
I've learned to silence all my rage
Tell me who can really say
What will tomorrow bring

I feel like waking up
I've had this dream before
I'll take these footsteps
Go higher, go higher
I've walked an empty mile
Wore down this lonely soul
I'll take these footsteps
Go higher, go higher
(Woohoooo woohoooo woohoooo...)
Higher, go higher
(Woohoooo woohoooo woohoooo...)
Higher, higher

I'll find you So far away, I'll find you,After all
I'll find you, So far away,I'll find you, After all

(I'll find you) I feel like waking up
(So far away) I've had this dream before
(I'll find you) I'll take these footsteps
(After all) Go higher, go higher
(I'll find you) I've walked an empty mile (I'll find you)
(So far away) Wore down this lonely soul (So far away)
(I'll find you) I'll take these footsteps
(After all) Go higher, go higher

(I'll find you) I feel like waking up
(So far away) I've had this dream before
(I'll find you) I'll take these footsteps
(After all) Go higher, go higher
(I'll find you) I've walked an empty mile (I'll find you)
(So far away) Wore down this lonely soul (So far away)
(I'll find you) I'll take these footsteps
(After all) Go higher, go higher

I feel like waking up
I've had this dream before
I'll take these footsteps
Go higher, higher

Long Great Holiday weekend

Good morning and happy Monday Yall!
Hope everyone had a lovely and safe July 4th!  My weekend was very laid back and  pretty relaxing.  We had Friday off as a holiday at my company which was awesome! I went to Canton with my friend T to get inspired and see if there was anything I couldn't live without.  I did pretty good. I didn't buy too too much.  Pictures will come later. I bought an old Victorian loveseat and a cool old paper stand. We couldn't stay all day because we had dinner plans with my inlaws. I love Canton and I have gone there for years. Its a famous flea market that has grown to be Huge.  It was a perfect day! We left just as it was getting hot and crowded and then finished the night with family at one of my favorite restaurants.

Saturday we drove over to my brother in laws and his girlfriend Paula's house in FtWorth. They had a BBQ and grilled burgers.  I brought Watergate salad.  It's the whipped cream with pistachio pudding and fruit and nuts.  It was funny because I kept calling it Nixon salad the night before. When I went to the store I looked on google and realized it was Watergate. I guess when I hear Watergate, I think Nixon.  Hahaha!  I guess you had to be there. My inlaws totally shook their head like they knew what i was talking about.  We renamed it Scandal salad.  It's delicious!
We took a group family selfie:

We didn't see any fireworks this year which is the first year ever I didn't make a point to watch them.  This is the first year  to have 2 dogs and they are so scared of them. It wasn't worth them being scared and upset.  We watched them on TV in Washington DC and New York.  We had to mute the TV when they would play the pips of the fireworks.  Unfortunately we were 2 blocks away from our towns festivities and we heard them by our bedroom window for hours. Todd grabbed Lila and just held her and that calmed her down.  Jax stayed under the covers near me and barked under the covers. He's so brave!
Yesterday was a fun day. After church we drove up to Denton which is maybe 30 miles north. We ate at Mellow Mushroom which is a pizza place and is so good! It's one of Todd's fave places.  Then we went on a leisurely drive thru the country on some back roads. I used to go the same back roads when I lived with dad in college and went to University of North Texas. I wanted to see if I still remembered and how much it changed.   I did good. I second guessed myself a few times and said I think I was supposed to turn there but I didn't and just kept going.  We had to exchange Todd's wedding ring that I bought him on Father's Day.  That was the direction we were aiming at was to get to the store I bought it at.  We got that done and went home.
I got a bug to paint.  I painted 3 drawers and a vintage wooden ironing board.
My goal for the drawers is to turn into shelves.
The pic on left is from Pinterest and the drawers in right are mine. They're drying outside.
I painted the ironing board with black chalkboard paint.  I'm thinking of writing Welcome down the length of the board. Or maybe Myers Family..... Endless possibilities. Lol!
So that's it.  Fun and relaxing.
This week my team is flying in for meetings here in Dallas.  It's going to be another very busy week at work!!
Have a fabulous day and if you haven't already, make sure to go vote on my Battle of the bands post from next week.

E is for my Easter weekend

It's already Monday. My how the weekend flies by!! So how was everyone's weekend? Mine was super crazy busy but awesome.  Friday night was pretty chill and my husband and I always go out for dinner to one on of our favorite Mexican restaurants. When we got home we just hung out with the dogs and watched TV. Saturday was the busiest day by far.  I got up early and picked up my friend Tammy at her house and we headed to Canton.  For those who aren't from Texas, Canton is a ginormous flea market called First Monday. It's every month and in east Texas about 90 minutes from Dallas.  I usually have something specific im looking for but this time I just went to see anything new and for the corny dog, funnel cake and lemonade.
I did pretty good but bought something kinda big and funny.  I bought an old metal shopping cart. It's not as big as the ones that stores use today.  It makes me happy because my grandma Nanny, retired from being a checker for Safeway many years ago.  Nanny helped raise me and I spent a lot of time in her store with my mom or grandpa picking her up from work.  My plans are to put some big plants in it on my patio. I also can't wait to use it for my huge Holliween party we have annually. I can put drinks and ice in it.
I also bought 2 more wine crates and a slip with cute lace on the bottom, and 2 hanging plants. That was my haul.
Tammy bought an old vintage door, a metal wheel, a large cross on a stake to put in yard and a few small things here and there.  It was so funny rolling around with the door strapped to the cart.
The nice man was helping us tie it down with some strong twine.
Yall- do you even know how badly I wanted this large birdcage?!! I'm still obsessed with bird cages and this one was only 200$.  If Tammy and I could have strapped it to our cart and loaded in my truck.....  Todd would kill me but it would be worth it. Lol.
I ran into my high school friend LeighAnn.
Tammy and I in back of my truck after loading everything.
I also love Nightmare before Christmas and these shoes  would be perfect for my  party. Sadly no more in my size.

Tammy and I didn't stay all day because I had concert tickets for that evening in Oklahoma.  So we left around 2 and I was home a little before 4. I had terrible sinus headache from being outdoors right now in the spring. Allergies suck! I laid down for a little nap and an hour later  , we were on the road to Winstar casino that is minutes away from the Oklahoma- Texas border.
We saw kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson.  It was fantastic!! I've seen Willie a number of times and he never disappoints. Merle was amazing and his son plays lead guitar for him.  Kris' daughter came out for one song with him and she played the banjo. It was a family night for sure.  You know these guys are old school country classic legends and I'm so glad I got to see them!!

Oh and Jamey Johnson came out on stage for last song
Selfies while waiting on Willie.

It was a packed day but wonderful. Then of course came Easter and the day started at our church. Todd plays the drums in worship band and we have 2 services. He had to be there really early but I didn't go until the second service.  I really enjoy watching Todd play.  The service was awesome and our pastor was great as usual.  Afterwards, I rode with Todd and left my truck behind at he church to his parents house for lunch.  My brother n law and his girlfriend was there ( Kevin and Paula) and my stepkids met us there. It was kinda a big deal because Collin drove himself and Allyson for the first time. We usually pick them up and drop them off but we couldn't with church Todds schedule.  Collin will be a senior next year so it was good for him to drive. The kids are so busy and we don't see them near enough so it was great.
I have the cutest inlaws and so blessed that I love them and they love me.
After lunch we visited a while then everyone left and went home.  We watched the TV show The bible continues and I enjoyed it so far. It's to be continued next Sunday.

So this is the longest post ever and ordinarily i would have broken it up for a couple of posts. The whole A to Z challenge has me doing things differently.

Have a wonderful day yall!!
