Oddities and such

I had a busy weekend but it was a good one.  Friday wasn’t all that fun though, I had to get allergy testing done.  I’ve mentioned recently, that I’m really struggling with asthma. Its scary and I really need to get it under control so I looked up an asthma and allergy specialist.  I really like the Dr and he’s nice. Come to find out, I’m allergic to grass, trees, pollen, weeds and the main one is dust.  The good news is that I’m not allergic to dogs which I was pretty nervous about since both of ours sleep in bed with us. LOL
43 needle pricks

3 hours later still itchy

It sucks!!! I have never had asthma until 8 years ago and I used to live outside as a kid growing up.  I have a consultation in a few weeks to see what avenue I’ll be taking such as shots, nose drops, etc.   So that was a good time!!  My arms still have little tiny bruises down my arm today.  I also am not sleeping well because the inhaler that I have to do every night is keeping me awake.  Yay.

Saturday, my cousin Monya and I went downtown Dallas to Fair Park to enter a very different show. Its called Oddities and Curiosities and it was great!!  It was bigger than I thought it would be and it got crowded.  There was a lot of very interesting booths there and some great artists.  Lots of taxidermy and skulls of insects, rodents, and large animals which got a little boring after a while. I bought some candles that had pretty pictures, we both got t-shirts of the event, I got a bracelet and some pretty crystals and a few funny stickers.  I have a thing of doll head planters. I have lots of them around my house that have cactus plants in them.  So what was funny, my cousin said that the event looks like my house. I laughed and took it as a compliment. Haha!  Apparently, doll heads inspire many others. There were lots and lots of creations with doll parts. One booth took stuffed animals and replaced their faces with crazy scary faces.  So funny!  There was a display from Ripley's Believe it or not that houses a show in their building a few towns over. The show isn’t for everyone and many of the booths didn’t appeal to me but most of them did.  It was very fun and some talented artists were there.

Later on that day, I got to spend 2 hours at the hospital to visit my friend who was in the car wreck. She’s improving a little each day but she has a long road. She very much is a brain injury patient with limited memory. It was so good to see her because she’s alive!!!

Sunday, I joined a friend in Canton the huge flea market and it was a fun day. I got some vintage purses, some Harley floor mats and some plants.  Afterwards, I picked up my Mom who was staying with my uncle to assist him after his knee surgery. It was nice that she could help him out and they got to spend some good time together.   Now, I’m looking forward to hanging out with her.  When Nanny passed, Mom rearranged her outgoing flight because she had already just bought her ticket to fly in this month.  My niece is graduating high school next month so after that, mom will go home back to Montana.

I have one week to get final touches done for my junk show and the gala for Refuge for Women. I'm on the run now!

We were drawn from the weeds...

Good morning y'all! Happy Monday to you on this dark rainy gloomy day here in Dallas.  We soooo need the rain though. How was your weekend?  I unpacked A LOT and starting to see a light at end of the tunnel finally. I have one guest room that is pretty scary but it's not priority. I can close the door if anyone comes over.

I drove out to Quitman on Saturday where Nanny (grandma )  lives and it's 2 hrs one way.  We had such a great day! I left early and got there around 10:30 am. We went to a  a little hole in the wall and had a delicious country breakfast before we went to the grocery store. Nanny does not have a car  or a drivers license so one of us normally takes her so she can be stocked up.
After we put away the groceries, we headed towards Lindale so I could go back to the Pink Pistol that's owned by Miranda Lambert.  I knew something was off when we got closer and no cars were there. Unfortunately, they had sign on door that they closed at 1pm just for that day.  I bet money that it was due to high school graduations.  I was bummed because I really really wanted to buy a skirt that I can't get out of my mind.
On our way back to Nannys we stopped at a little flea market and I bought a cute little rolling cart and 2 mannequin heads that came from a beauty school. I will be using them for my Halloween party. LOL
The highways were gorgeous out in East Texas.

Sunday, I came home from church determined to get our master bedroom complete. Todd went to his office to paint  his lobby so I buckled down and got to work.  Jax is so funny because he loves to be held. He was so needy and would jump up on my legs so I can pick him up. He's actually pretty heavy when you're holding him with one arm and unpacking, sorting and cleaning with the other arm.
I need to get one of those baby holders that I can put him in and carry him around.

I came across one of my projects I bought recently, and changed it around.
I had bought a summer dress that would not have fit me in the bust but would make a great skirt. I cut the whole top portion off and Wallah! I have a cute skirt.
These are really not good pictures but notice the shoulder straps and the top bodice are missing from the photo on right.
It's been a blah day but Ive been busy at work. Hence the late time of day I'm posting.
Here are some cute pics of Jax that brighten my day.
He's using his toy as a pillow. Heehee

I want to post more then once this week so let's see......
Have a great rest of your day.

Fashion and Flea

Good morning everyone - happy hump day! I've been meaning to let y'all know that I did actually get to meet Danielle Colby from American Pickers.  Some of you who follow my Instagram already knows this but I wanted to share today on blog. I will just say that she was the sweetest real person! I stood in line to meet her and she's just so gracious to everyone she met. They were selling small posters of her for you to get signed but (a) I didn't want to get out of line and (b) it was 15.00$.  I just had Todd take our picture and we spoke briefly. The first thing she said to me was that i had beautiful eyes and then she saw my hair and said it was gorgeous. How sweet was that!! Everyone is ooohing and aaahing over her and she gives the compliments. We were sort of in unofficial line because we had been waiting on her to arrive around noon and she didn't get there until one. Danielle was stopping by some booths and checking out people's stuff but she would pose for pics and so I thought why not now. She was scheduled for official meet and greet where she had her own table and you could hang with her at 2 but we wanted to get going.  I was very excited to have met her and she is too cute. We had a little chilly weather so she was hiding her tattoos but not on purpose.  Todd was funny and said "tell Frank he's cheap"! And she said I tell him that everyday.
I love the show and we DVR it so we can watch a few shows back to back in sequence. She is a huge part of the show. Come to find out, she and Mike were friends long before the show and it was his idea to hire her knowing she would be good on camera and with people.
I always tell Todd that if I was a history teacher , I would totally show episodes of this because it's so educational ! I love that they post years , origin , and history on items they find.
Speaking of vintage- check out this gorgeous gown. It was one of my favorite things I saw.  You can see back of dress in one of the pics with Danielle.

So do y'all watch the show on History Channel?
