Review: INKED by Drew Elyse!

My Review: This was so, so close to 4 stars. So nearly there, I almost changed my rating, but it just didn't feel right. I'll explain why in a few. First, what I liked! This is a good, well-told story. The kind you can just sink into when you need to escape. The author does a great job at characterization, the build-up to the suspense was well done, and you could practically see the sparks when the hero and heroine were together.

Now, for what didn't jive with me. I felt like I was cheated. There wasn't enough of that sweet build up - in fact, these two have already known each other for some time when the book starts. I wanted to see that flash of the first connection, the burn as they get closer... But alas, that's not what I got. I did still get a good read, but it just felt a little lacking. Still, I'd gladly read more by this author!

Cover Lovin': Hot!

Recommendation: Works as a stand-alone.

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)!! Good, but the one problem I did have bothered me enough that I was a little grumbly. Still well worth the read!

We are thrilled to be bringing you the release of the release of INKED by Drew Elyse. INKED is the second standalone in the Sailor's Grave series. Lovers of contemporary romance won't want to miss this one - be sure to get your copy today!

About INKED

INSTANT ATTRACTION IS A POWERFUL THING.
Six months of dancing around each other led to one explosive night and two weeks without a word.
Only then did I learn the truth: The man I’d wanted since he walked into Sailor’s Grave Tattoo Parlor was actually an undercover cop.
And the worst part is, I don’t even know his real name.
BUT WHAT IF ATTRACTION ISN’T ENOUGH
For over eight months I held back. Except for that one night when I couldn’t fight it anymore. I’d wanted her from the beginning, but I should have kept waiting until my secrets weren’t between us.
Now, I have the ultimate challenge before me: Convince the inked goddess of a receptionist to at least let me keep her safe, even if she won’t give me another chance.

Review: SALVAGED by Jay Crownover! EXCERPT included!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover continues her delightfully sexy Saints of Denver series with the next thrilling standalone, SALVAGED! Order your copy today!

My Review: Okay, I'm going to try and refrain from tearing up, because the Marked Men and the Saints of Denver are two of my all-time favorite series. They both have a very prominent place on my keeper shelves - and I'm both happy and heartbroken to see these series come to a close. And what a way to end the series - Wheeler and Poppy's book packs such a huge emotional punch, this really is a case of going out with a bang. I've been eager for Wheeler's book since the character was introduced. Despite being a side character, he quickly became one of my favorites, and this book just solidifies his place in my harem of book boyfriends. He's such an amazing guy, willing to give so much of himself to make the people he cares about happy. His need for a family about broke my heart, I just wanted to give him a huge hug.

Now, I said this book packs an emotional punch, and I'm not kidding. Poppy has had a very, VERY rough life, and it's still haunting her. But that makes her relationship with Wheeler that much sweeter, because it shows how much of a caregiver he is. And on top of that, it shows how strong Poppy is - like it was said in the book, she's a survivor, not a victim. And it's not just the abuse angle that had me nearly in tears - the epilogue(s) at the end.. I almost lost it. After following these characters since their original release (I started reading Jay's books when Rome released, so very near the beginning!), and to see them all together again, living their happily ever afters.. *sniffle*

I can't wait to see where Jay takes us next. I know her Breaking Point series is the next release, and I'm ashamed to say I'm behind in reading the Point and Breaking Point books, so I need to hurry and catch up. And I'm excited to be attending a huge multi-author book signing in August that she will be attending.. so I better start thinking about which of my books I need her to sign!

I can't say enough how much I love this author. If you like your men hot and tattooed.. If you love New Adult Romance... If you just need a book that will make you both sniffle and chuckle, look no further than this.

Cover Lovin': This cover is perfect for Wheeler and Poppy, and fits perfectly with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: Salvaged can be read as a stand-alone, but I suggest reading at least the whole Saints of Denver series, if not the Marked Men as well. There are plenty of characters that cross over.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)! This was a perfect end to one of my all-time favorite series. I fell in love with Wheeler and Poppy, and their story was everything I could have hoped it would be.

Happy Reading!

Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancée who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.

Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.
The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

EXCERPT:
“I don’t know that I have the time to take on a puppy right now, Poppy.” He lifted a hand and rubbed it across the back of his neck. His mahogany-colored eyebrows pulled into a vee over the top of his nose and the corners of his mouth pulled down in a frown that was too harsh for his pretty face. I liked it much better when he smiled and his twin dimples cut deeply into his cheeks.
I bit my bottom lip to keep the distressed noise that I could feel climbing up the back of my throat at bay. I knew he might say no but I couldn’t hide the fact that I was disappointed by his decision. I honestly felt like he and the puppy would be good for one another, that they could bring a little joy into each other’s life. It broke my heart a little that Wheeler wasn’t ready to open his heart up again, even when it was to something that was so obviously eager to love him unconditionally and irrevocably, unlike his ex.
“It’s okay, Wheeler. Like I said, I’ll take him home until I can find a place for him. I’m sure Dolly could use a friend.” I crouched down and wiggled my fingers to get the dog’s attention, and grinned when he bounded over, tripping over his front legs as he scrambled in my direction. “I can take him to work with me and hold on to him until I figure something out. One of the boys at the shop will step up if Dixie doesn’t want another dog.”
I heard him sigh and looked up to see him watching me intently. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, then let it snap shut with his teeth audibly clicking together. I didn’t know much about Wheeler, but what I did know I liked. He was nice. He was polite. He was thoughtful and he was kind. But more than any of those things, he went out of his way to hold himself in a way that wasn’t threatening or intimidating because he was aware without me saying a word how jumpy I was around people, men in particular. I hated that they were bigger than me. I hated that I knew firsthand how badly they could hurt me if they had a mind to. I hated that I wilted and cowered under their attention, even if it was innocent and friendly. The fact that he took care not to spook me spoke volumes and made me feel awful for putting him in such an awkward position.
“Poppy…” He sounded regretful and I had no interest in dragging the torture out any longer for either of us. I scooped up the dog and buried my nose in the top of his head.
“Seriously it’s no big deal. I love him and I’m happy to wait until I can find him a proper home. It was stupid of me not to consider how busy you are with everything you have going on in your life right now. A puppy is a big commitment and that’s not something you can put on someone else without discussing it with them first.” The dog swiped his tongue across my face, no doubt feeling my distress and rising panic. I wanted to tuck his warm little body to my chest and run away like I was trying to score a touchdown in the other team’s end zone. “I should have known better.”

Review: kINKED edited by Cori Vidae!

Release Date: March 14th, 2017

Type: Anthology, Short Stories, BDSM, Tattoos, Contemporary, Fantasy, Science Fiction

About the Book: Every tattoo tells a story...

A submissive pain slut receives a tattoo as a reward for years of selfless service. A man's body is used to deliver a very different kind of message to a domineering masochist. An exotic teahouse on an alien planet where one woman explores her submissiveness with a set of shapeshifting twins.

These and other sizzling stories take you to the places where kink meets ink and leave you indelibly marked.
  [Description from Goodreads.com]
My Review: Anthologies are always a little hit and miss. Not everything can be exactly your style, right? And that's true here - but I have to say.. every story in this anthology was excellent. Even the stories I didn't necessarily like or get into, they were still incredibly written. For those that took place in different worlds or different time periods, the authors did a fantastic job giving the reader a scene of place and world building, even within such a short story. I couldn't put this book down. It was a one-sitting read for me, because each story was just as good as the last.

I'm going to highlight a few of my favorites..
My absolute favorite has to be Sae-ri by Nicole Blackwood. I thought the world this author created was amazing, and definitely very, very hot. I would love to see more in this setting, and even just more by this author. She has another short story in another anthology, so I might have to check it out.
Begin Again by Tiffany Michelle Brown was another one I really enjoyed.
And finally, Inkarnate by Mara Malins - another one I really got into from the very beginning.

So be sure to check out kINKED, edited by Cori Vidae! I know I have some BDSM and Tattoo-loving readers.. this is right up your alley!

Cover Lovin': Oh my. *Fans self*

Recommendation: You need to love your stories hot!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! I loved this anthology, and even the stories that didn't "rev my engine," so to speak, were still beautifully written. Definitely worth a read!

Review: INK EXPOSED by Carrie Ann Ryan!

Type: Contemporary Romance, Series, Book 6, Tattooed Hotties,

My Review: Every book I read by Carrie Ann Ryan makes me fall in love with her that much more. I've seen a million recommendations for the Montgomery Ink series, and I can totally see why - and even offer my own rec's! The family dynamic is addicting, the characters genuine and loveable... Really, it's just all around awesome.

I want to commend the author for the fantastic portrayal of alcoholism and the recovery process. Alex isn't magically cured after rehab, he has to continue the fight even years down the road. I appreciate how true to life that is, and made me fall that much more in love with Alex. And as much as I would love him for myself, I swooned when I read his lovey scenes with Tabitha. They are perfect for each other, and I loved every second of their relationship.

Cover Lovin': Yes, please!

Recommendation: This works just fine as a stand alone, though I'm sure you'll get addicted to the Montgomerys and want to read more.

Final Rating: FOUR out if FIVE stars (4/5)!! This was so good, a one-sitting read for sure.

Happy Reading!

Review: BENEATH THESE SHADOWS by Meghan March & Excerpt!

btshadows-amazon-1
Release Date: October 25th, 2016

Type: Tattooed bad boy, On the run, Series-but-stand-alone, Book 6, Contemporary Romance, Beards, Tattoos, and Man buns - oh my!

My Review: I would like to start by saying before this book, I wasn't really that interested in the whole man-bun trend. Some guys could pull it off, but it didn't float my boat like it did for so many others. But then I met Bishop - and despite being a fictional character, he sold me on the whole idea. Add in the fact that he has a beard and tattoos? I'm a goner for sure. It's no wonder Eden couldn't stay away. No one could blame her.

This isn't my first book by Meghan March, but it is the first one I coudn't put down. I was hooked pretty much from the beginning, and not just because I have a soft spot for books set in New Orleans. I could practically feel the pull between Eden and Bishop, and I rooted for them the entire time, even when I was incredibly nervous about what was going to happen and how they would deal with each others' secrets.

And since I loved this one so much, I will definitely have to check out the previous books in the series. Bishop's friends truly felt like a family unit, and I can't wait to see how they all found their own happy endings.

Cover Lovin': Yes, please!

Recommendation: Beneath these Shadows works just fine as a stand-alone. I had no problem keeping up with everything and everyone despite not being familiar with the series. But I will be checking out the earlier books!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars! Loved it, didn't want to put it down, and I've already added the rest of the series to my TBR list!

“You ever broken the law before this, Eden?” I expected a quick and unequivocal no, but it didn’t come as fast as I thought it would. “I don’t think so. I mean, I’m sure I have by accident sometime. I’ve jaywalked. But I’m not some kind of criminal.” Well, that makes one of us, I thought. My anger from earlier started to fade and be replaced by the heat of the knowledge that Eden’s naked tits were only inches from my chest, separated by water I could see right through. Last time I’d seen them under her pink bra, she’d been too fucked up for me to take advantage . . . but tonight she was completely sober. I raised my gaze from her chest, expecting her cheeks to be red when she realized I was staring at her nipples, but she wasn’t watching my face. She was staring down at my body. “Like what you see?” That got her attention. Eden jerked her head up to meet my eyes, and the blush colored her skin like I’d timed it. “You’re . . . big.” A booming laugh broke free from my throat at her unexpected response, and her cheeks flamed even brighter. “No, that’s not what I meant. I mean . . . everywhere. Not just, in the . . .” She looked down, then jerked her gaze back to mine. “I’m going to shut up now.” That kind of awkward and fumbling response couldn’t be faked, and protectiveness rose in me again. Eden was no con artist. She was a girl who couldn’t even say the word cock without turning red. “Ain’t no shame in my game.” She reached out a hand and covered my lips with her fingers. “Stop. You’re just making it worse. I wasn’t checking out your . . . package. I mean, I did before you got in the pool, but that’s only because I thought you’d have underwear on because who doesn’t wear underwear?” The babbling continued, and so did my laughter. Hell, I hadn’t laughed this much since Delilah had given in to a customer’s request and tattooed a flexing veined eggplant cartoon on a client so he could send pictures of it instead of dick pics. Eden pulled her hand back and covered her face. “I’m going to stop talking now. I seriously can’t be trusted to say anything that’s not completely humiliating when you’re standing this close to me naked.” “I disagree, and since I’m not ready to get out and put my clothes on, you’re going to have to deal with it.” She mumbled something under her breath. “Come again?” Eden pressed her lips together for a beat before saying, “I don’t know how to deal with it. This isn’t something I’ve ever dealt with before.” A crazy thought popped into my brain. “Are you a virgin?” If there was a red brighter than fire engine, that was the color of Eden’s cheeks. “No! Of course not. Really. I’ve touched a dick before. I mean, just the one, but it still counts. Well, I didn’t really touch it. Except, you know, inside me. Oh my God, I’m just going to shut up now.” Realization dawned on me as her babbled protest silenced. “You’ve had sex with one guy? Once? How old are you?” Eden turned to bolt, but instead smashed her tits into my arm. I stepped close enough so that only an inch of water separated us. Her gaze went skyward. “This is so humiliating.” That’s where she and I had differing opinions. “Why? Because you haven’t fucked every guy you’ve ever met? What’s wrong with that?” Eden’s gaze snapped down to mine and her brows drew into slashes. “Hey, whoa now. You can toss that double-standard crap right in the trash. What if I had screwed every guy I ever met? Would that make me less of a person? I mean, it’s not like you probably haven’t been with dozens and dozens of women. I’m not judging you. Except for maybe that Kitty girl. I mean, really? You’ve got to have some standards.” My laughter boomed out again across the courtyard. “Cupcake, just because I can get most any pussy I want, doesn’t mean I do it.” “Still, double standards are—” When she started on another tirade, I decided to silence her the best way I knew how. I leaned down and covered her lips with mine.

Review: LOVE RESTORED by Carrie Ann Ryan

Release Date: September 13th, 2016

Type: Book one, Contemporary Romance, Ink and Piercings, hate at first sight

My Review: I do so enjoy books where the hero and heroine have a bad start. Meet-cute is great and all, but it is so much more fun if they have to work for it. And it's exceptionally enjoyable in this book. Not only are they off to a bad start, but they then delight in picking on each other. I also love the family dynamic between the Gallagher brothers. I haven't read any of the Montgomery series, but this is a spin-off.. the characters showing up from the Montgomery series makes me want to check it out sooner rather than later.

I've been lucky to read a bunch of great books lately, and Love Restored is no different. I love my heroes with tattoos and piercings, and I get that in spades in this book - and my heroine too! I already can't wait for more by this author.

Cover Lovin': Oh my!

Recommendation: This is book one in a new series, so come one, come all! No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars! Great read.

Review: WHAT YOU NEED by Lorelei James!

Release Date: January 5, 2016

Type: Contemporary Romance, Series, Book 1, Sexy Accountant-type, Tatooed Woman, Straight-laced guy looking for a wild girl

About the Book: As the CFO of Lund Industries, Brady Lund is the poster child for responsibility. But eighty-hour workweeks leave him little time for a life. His brothers stage an intervention and drag him to a seedy nightclub... where he sees her: the buttoned-up blonde from the office who's starred in his fantasies for months.

Lennox Greene is a woman with a rebellious past, which she conceals beneath her conservative clothes. She knows flirting with her boss during working hours is a bad idea. So when Brady shows up at her favorite dive bar and catches her cutting loose, she throws caution aside and dares him to do the same.

After sparks fly, Brady finds that keeping his hands off Lennox during office hours is harder than expected. Though she makes him feel alive for the first time in years, a part of him wonders if she's just using him to get ahead. And Lennox must figure out whether Brady wants her for the accomplished woman she is - or the bad girl she was. [Description from the back of the book.]

My Review: Judging by the book description, this almost sounds a little Pride & Prejudice like, right? Or maybe it's just me. But maybe that's not too far off. Brady seems like an uptight jerk to anyone that doesn't know him, and to outsiders it might certainly look like Lennox is just dating Brady for the money and fame. So the classic lover in me jumped on this book the second it was offered for review.

If I had to pick something to complain about, and this kept coming up multiple times while I was reading it - it was that Brady was too perfect. This might not seem like a major complaint, but I like my heroes to have some flaw, to feel real and genuine so I can imagine that somewhere, they might actually exist (and like their girls awkward and nerdy, sure!). But even with Brady's excuse for pushing himself so hard, it's hard to imagine a guy working 80+ hour work weeks having the time to work out enough that he's ripped, or to be so good at quite so many things. And while he was so awkward in certain situations, in similar ones, he spoke and continued a conversation with ease.

But as much as that bugged me - I loved Lennox and Brady together. And equally so, I loved Brady's family and the dynamics between them. And thank goodness for the family, because that means we get more Lund books in the future, featuring Brady's siblings, and cousins, I'm sure. It also means Brady and Lennox are likely to pop up again in the future. Yay!

So to sum up - certain people were just too perfect, enough to make them not feel as genuine. But the relationship itself was a joy to read. And I really liked the occasionally-awkward work dynamics, which added and interesting twist to the story.

Cover Lovin': Not anywhere near as sexy as Lorelei James' usual, but it's a classic style. Anyone else think it looks like "Bourbon Kings" by J.R. Ward?

Recommendation: Be prepared to add to your to-read list, Brady has a lot of family that will most likely be getting books!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! Loved it, couldn't put it down. Just wished some people weren't quite so perfect.

About ASA:

Jay Crownover’s New York TimesandUSA TodaybestsellingMarked Menseries continues with the much anticipated story of southern charmer and certified criminal Asa Cross. Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one luscious arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best. Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak. A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.   Asa Teaser 2   EXCERPT: I pulled the Nova to a stop in front of a duplex that had clearly seen better days. It wasn’t a rusted-out trailer in Kentucky, but it might as well have been. I turned off the ignition and sat back in the seat so I could turn to look at Ayden. She was watching me carefully and I could see how frustrated she was with the entire conversation in the way her shoulders were tensed up and the way her hands had curled into tight balls on her lap. It was the way she used to look whenever I got into trouble and she had to do something desperate and drastic to get me out of it. I reached out a hand and put it on top of her fists. “I died in that hospital, Ayd. There were no angels playing harps. There was no redemption and repentance. I died and it was very clear that I was going to get exactly the kind of fate I had been courting with all the messed-up shit I had been doing to other people. All I could see was every wrong I had ever committed and every bad decision I had ever made exploding all around me. For once I could see how all of that affected you. I was dying, and I knew what was waiting for me on the other side, yet I couldn’t go knowing that was all you were going to have to remember me by. I had to come back and give you something else to hold on to, some kind of good memory to go with the endless miles of bad I laid at your feet. I wanted to have the chance to show you I could be the kind of brother you deserved all along, so no, I didn’t save myself—you saved me. Just like you’ve always done for my entire life.” I saw her bottom lip tremble until she snapped her teeth around it to keep it still. Her fists unclenched below my palm and she curled her shaking fingers around my hand and her already husky voice rasped with even more emotion when she told me what I think I had needed to hear from her all along. “I have always been proud that you’re my brother, Asa. Yes, there have been times in the past I would have gladly fed you to the wolves, and it’s no secret that I had to leave home because I didn’t know what to do to help you anymore, but we both made it out alive and are better people for it. I know you’re sorry for the way things went down when we were younger, but I need you to open your eyes and take some credit for the way you have turned it around to make things the way they are now. I’ve long since come to terms with the Asa from my childhood. What I want to do is love the Asa that’s here with me now. You need to let go of those boulders weighted with all the bad things from past that are dragging you down before you get crushed under them.” It was eerily similar to what Royal had been telling me the deeper and deeper I sank in with her. I don’t think I was ready to let any part of those stones go just yet, but a sexy redhead was slowly and surely eroding bits and pieces of the rock the more and more time I spent with her. By the time she was done, maybe she would be able to carve out something that was worthwhile, something that didn’t eviscerate me to look at. I leaned over enough that I could kiss Ayden right on the center of her forehead between her midnight eyebrows and I felt her let out a shuddering sigh. “I’m never going to let you down again, Ayd. That is the one and only thing in the entire world that I can promise and know it’s a promise I will keep.” We stared at each other for a long and silent moment. The seriousness of the words I had said to her and the fact that I could see that she understood that I really, truly meant them finally worked to absolve me of some of the guilt that seemed to suffocate me whenever I thought about the things she had done to keep me safe.   Passionate lovers are having sex in the bathroom
