May Arts Ribbonistas Light It Blue

At May Arts Ribbon, we are helping to celebrate the Light It Up Blue - Autism Speaks. This kicks off the Autism Awareness month.  For more information, please visit Autism Speaks.

I chose to create a Mixed Media piece for this hop - because I know with a piece like this, it is easy for everyone to see something a little bit different.  As we celebrate Autism Awareness, I think this is perfect to express the beauty of each individual that is affected with Autism. The cherub is to remind us what sweet angels we have living among us.

Graphic 45 Design Team Audition 2015

Welcome to my Graphic 45 Design Team Audition for 2015!  As you know, I love all things vintage, so of course, Graphic 45's line always delights and inspires me.  I've made many G45 projects through the years, but am just going to share a few with you today to highlight my style.

1.  Steampunk Mermaid Assemblage Doll using papers from Steampunk Spells, Tropical Travelogue, and By the Sea Collections.  I love how the paper lines can be mixed from different collections, using the G45 signature colors for consistency.

And this mermaid has a secret....in her caged skirt, there are six hidden mini-albums.

2.  Magical Layout featuring an Eerie Tale Collection - It's fabulous that holiday collections can be used for non-seasonal projects as well an their intended theme.

 3.  Gold Ol' Sport 6 x 6" Card featuring the Good Ol' Sport Collection.  Graphic 45 is a dream for anyone who loves fussy cutting like I do....it's so much fun to add dimension to projects by layering the images.

( Interior of the card)

4.  Dream Card- 4" x 6" featuring the Artisan Style Collection.  Since I'm a native of Asheville, NC - this collection is one of my favorites.  It really echoes so much of the architecture and imagery that my home town is know for.  The matching stamp collections are wonderful additions to the line.

5.  Thinking of You 6" x 6" Card featuring the Botanical Tea Collection.  G45 has a line of matching card stock from Core'dinations that is just right for creating hand made flowers to add to projects.

 (Interior of Card)

6.  Saving for a Rainy Day Bank featuring the Raining  Cats and Dogs Collection.  I constructed this bank using Graphic 45's ATC box as the base for my dog house.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and allowing me to share my love for Graphic 45 with you!  Wish me luck!

I stamped the Craftsman home on watercolor paper, and embossed with black power.  I used the Spectrum Aqua pens to "paint" my house.

The leaves and the dragonfly were made with the Vertigo film (that is one of the coolest products ever!)  If you would like to see more on how I made this, then please watch my video.  If you enjoy it - please subscribe to my YouTube channel!

Zva Creative August DT Blog Hop!

Hello friends! Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to our July blog hop!  We are very excited to kick off another blog hop and to have you join us today!
The hop begins at Zva Creative’s blog! Be sure head on over to check it out! You will also find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).
As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  If you like what you see along the hop you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

For my project today, I wanted to show you our gems in the smoke or gray colorway.  I really like using these for vintage projects where the clear crystals would just be too bright. They remind me of vintage rhinestone jewelry that has aged with a gorgeous patina.

Hampton Art/Graphic 45 Come Away With Me 1
Hampton Art/Graphic 45 Come Away With Me 2

The Blog Hop starts today, August 25th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, August 26th.
***Prizes***
Hidden on FIVE of the blogs along the way is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over. All you need to do is leave a comment on one post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.
The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, August 27th on Zva Creative’s Facebook page. We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to Zva’s page on Wednesday to see if you are a winner!

Happy Birthday with Hampton Art

It's easier than ever before to put a cute spin on your cards using Hampton Art's Stamp and Stencil sets.  I was able to quickly add my stenciled banner to the top of the card, and stamped the sentiment.  The cake was stamped, colored and fussy cut - and then added to the card with foam dimensionals.  It's fun and festive, and everything comes together quickly.

Remember...

I had to laugh when I saw some of the funny sentiments on Hampton Art's LOL line of stamps - and after having a family reunion a couple of weeks ago- I thought this one was perfect.

The sentiment was stamped with watermark ink and then heat embossed with red powder.  I love how the patterned paper and the ribbon coordinated so well.

Seeing Stars

I have a beautiful art journal - well, the outside is gorgeous.  But I realized, I had only completed a couple of pages on the inside - so I decided it was time to do something about that.  And today, I'll share my first efforts with you.

I primed my page with gesso.  After it was dry, I lightly sprayed it with water, and used an old credit card to spread out some Art Anthology Velvet paint in Reef.
I painted Baby Blue Eyes Sorbet paint on  Hampton Art's Fancy Facade (PS0817) and stamped it to add texture.
I cut stars from dictionary pages and glued them to the page and then traced around them with a charcoal pencil.
Next, I used the Hampton Art chevron mask from Mod Greetings (SC0641) and the Honolulu Blue Sorbet.  I love this glossy, sparkly layer.

I stamped the sentiment, but cut the words apart and inked them and glued to the page. Finally, I misted over the page with the Colorations - Waimea Bay.  For a bit of contrast, I added dots of the Dimensional Crystal in Red Corvette.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dare to Be Remarkable

I've always loved any type of architectural detail, so I was thrilled to see the new photo-based stamps from Hampton Art/ Art Etc.  So many of these images capture these great designs, and are just waiting to be used on your stamping projects. I wanted this stamp to be the star of the show, so I kept this pretty simple.

1.  Start with a 5 x7" card base.  Cut the patterned papers as shown and adhere to base.
2.  Stamp the image with watermark ink onto ivory cardstock.  Heat emboss with black powder.
3.  Ink over the image with distress inks, spritz with water, wait a couple of seconds and use a paper towel to dab up the excess water.  Ink the edges with black.
4.  Stamp the sentiment and die cut.  Ink around the image while still in the die.
5.  Add ribbon where the two patterned papers meet.
6.  Use foam adhesives to add the stamped panels to the card.
7.  Finish the card with pearls and flourish.

By the Sea Layout

What would the weekend be without ending up with paint all over my hands?  If that is the criteria for a good weekend, then this was one of the best!

Challenges:
Once Upon a Sketch - Journaling Theme: The best things in life aren't things
(My journaling is on the back on the layout)
Creative Embellishments - Photo Inspiration ( I was inspired by the colors in the clouds, as well as the whole beach theme)
