His He She & She

Blawan - His He She & She (2012)

With this four song EP Blawan solidifies himself as the most punishing techno producer/DJ. This more recent offering is characteristically cold and dark with an added faint industrial aftertaste that doesn't overpower the palate. I've always loved the slightly sinister tinge this guy's output has had lurking in the background but I feel like he's completely embraced the darkness with this release as he moves from his bass oriented approach toward a more techno sound.

I don't really know what I'm talking about though, I'm just a weirdo that listens to Incantation worship bands.

Why they hide they bodies unda my garage?

Run Come Ya!

Barrington Levy - Run Come Ya! (1981)

IT'S SO FUCKING HOT. WHY IS IT SO HOT. THE SUN IS LIKE A HEAT LAMP HANGING TEN FEET ABOVE MY HEAD AND I'M NOT EVEN OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW.

Anyway, here's some reggae. Sure, this isn't the usual fare around here, but I'm into this record. I actually checked this album out because John Cardiel recommended it. Not directly, of course. I was watching the very cool documentary 'Epicly Later'd' and when asked what his favorite album was, he responded with Barrington Levy's Run Come Ya. I've recently been delving into the world of reggae, dancehall, etc, so I thought I'd give it a chance. It's a pretty nice middle ground between reggae and dub, just enough weirdness, reverb, and bass to make it pleasing. I really can't stand most reggae, but this is pretty decent.

Was that story worth typing? In hind sight, probably not. But you read it, and you should know by now that I don't really use the backspace key around here. You'll never get that time back. I'm not sorry.

Note: This is the 365th post on this stupid blog. I can now make it into a calendar.

Live From The Underground

Big K.R.I.T. - Live From The Underground (Stream) (2012)

Seeing as how this blog is a total joke now, I figured I would share this because it's good and I want more people to hear it. Krit's newest effort (available June 5th) is now streaming in its entirety on NPR.org. NPR has been so on point with music lately, weird.

Strange Songs (In The Dark)

Merchandise - Strange Songs (In The Dark) (2010)

I imagine the cretins that darken the doorways of this blog haven't heard this before. Because I sure hadn't until a friend threw the LP on the other day.

Guys lets take a post punk break.

**BONUS CONTENT: Gone Are The Silk Flowers of Youth (CS) (2010)

VERY COOL ALBUMS FROM 2011: PART THREE

Here are some non-metal very cool albums from 2011. Maybe this isn't what you wanted from this blog. Maybe this isn't what you expected from this blog. Well nobody asked you what you want or expect, huh? This blog sucks, get over it.

This is Part Three, though. You can see Part One and Part Two here and here, respectively.

ASAP Rocky - Live.Love.ASAP

This was probably my most anticipated rap/hip-hop release of the year and it's basically everything I hoped for and more. MY FUCKIN' BRAIN IS PURPLE.

Zola Jesus - Conatus

I don't really know what to say other than I usually like women singing over weird music so this is right up my alley. Maybe your alley will like this very cool album too.

Mariachi El Bronx - Mariachi El Bronx II

What happens when you band makes a mariachi band and the mariachi version of your band blows your shitty regular band out of the water? What happens when you make a second mariachi album and it's just as good if not better than the first one?

Frank Ocean - Nostalgia/Ultra

Someone shittier and more annoying than myself might write something like, "R&B for the new generation". Along with compatriot The Weeknd, Francis Ocean is giving just a little bit of credibility back to a genre that's been completely shit on and ruined over the past 15 or 20 years.

Lucem Ferre

Year Of The Goat - Lucem Ferre (2011)

Finally starting to get to the bottom of the giant mound of .RARs and .ZIPs on my desktop that I've accumulated from the various sources I frequent. Some are pretty shitty. This one, however, was a surprise. I'm going to lie I probably downloaded this at least a month ago and with a name like Year of The Goat, I was expecting something much heavier, but this is just as good.

Sweden continues to kill it as far as rock is concerned, this occult rock EP a shiny gem in genre pretty full of idiots making shitmusic. If you're looking for something a bit more mellow, get into it.

Dark Load.

The Process Of Weeding Out....Brother

Hulk Hogan - The Process Of Weeding Out...Brother

Please go check out this post over at the Cosmic Hearse because this is some serious shit, man. Relevant to my interests, you could say. I want that on a shirt.

Hat Creek

Dads - Hat Creek (2010)

Bizarre collection of weirdo songs. This is the worst 7" ever made. Don't download it.

Hats.

Gipsy Kings

Gipsy Kings - Gipsy Kings (1988)

Djobi, djoba.
Cada día yo te quiero mas.

AWESOME.

Get Waste: 420 Stoner Riffs

While I'm not really into "weed culture", April 20th is a day for all true Hessian warriors to rise out of a sea of weed fog and unite. It's also an excuse to GET WASTE. So here I humbly bestow upon you a random collection of albums I will no doubt be listening to today. Many of these have probably been posted here before, but we both know you don't actually download anything I post. You just look at it and nod. Proceed the weedian.

Stonehelm - Stonehelm (2010)

Huge dumb riffs with huge dumb lyrics about smoking weed. Perfect. While this album lacks any true staying power that would make it a classic of the genre, it's definitely a lot of fun.

Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality (1971)

Arguably my favorite album by arguably the best band. If you don't like this album, or Black Sabbath, please stop reading my blog. You aren't wanted here.

Bongripper - Satan Worshiping Doom (2010)

Album of the year for me in 2010. I haven't been 'trapped in the riff' for quite as long by any other band. If you've never been trapped in a riff before, today is your day.

Queens of The Stone Age - Self Titled (1998)

Awesome rock album that I don't think they will ever top. While I definitely celebrate the entire catalogue, this is the obvious stand-out that I spin at least once a week.

Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires (1981)

Dub music for when the night is winding down. Yes, that is a group of Jamaicans on a pontoon boat battling Count Dracula, The Mummy, and Frankenstein with their riddim.

To Be Continued.....?

Super Tight

UGK - Super Tight

Metal hasn't been too good to me lately, so here's one of my favorite releases in Southern hip-hop history. The production on this album blows my mind every time I listen to it.

R.I.P. Pimp C

Return of the Trill Ass Niggas.
