Jeff Davis County House

I tried so hard to get the garage in the picture that I didn't realize I was as close and cutting off a corner of this Jeff Davis County house. Maybe in Hazlehurst.

Barn in Pecan Orchard in Jeff Davis County

This is the area where you alternate being in Jeff Davis and Appling, but pretty sure it is in Jeff Davis.

Jeff Davis County

This photo was taken in the late 1970s, by my mother. It was her childhood home from 1947 until about 1955, before the family moved to Brunswick, GA. Their stay in Brunswick was short lived and they eventually returned to Jeff Davis, County. She remembers that the roof was covered with hand-made wooden shingles, instead of the metal roof in the photo. My grandmother is the lady sitting on the front porch.
My maternal grandparents, George and Ocie (Durden) Rowland, worked on the Girtman Farm with their six children. Word is that it has been used as a hunting camp for several years and that if I want to see it I better hurry because it won't be around much longer.

The Railroad Depot in Hazlehurst

Built around 1920, the depot has been expanded and modified over the years and is still used by Norfolk Southern.

Denton GA Post Office

This quaint little building is the Post Office in Denton, Ga. It can be seen as you pass through Denton on Highway 221, between Douglas and Hazlehurst. Helen Wilcox Johnson [1901-1983] was Postmistress at the Denton Georgia Post Office for 47 years before her retirement. She was the wife of Dewey Johnson and the mother of Lt. Colonel Dewey Wilcox Johnson.

Jeff Davis County

Tobacco barn on Marvin B. Williams' farm.  In process of being cleaned up and renovated by his daughter Gail. Only thing missing is the handing/stringing shelf. Not sure of age - was functioning in 1950 and not a new structure at the time.
