Best Fishes

I (Lauren) have made a "Best Fishes" birthday card* for my brother nearly every year for probably a decade. This version features a background made of Ocean Washi, a sentiment diecut from Wood Tape backed with scraps of cardstock, and in the starring role our Eyelet Outlet Fish Brads (they're on sale!), plus some of the Trout from the Trout and Bass set.

Did you know that there's an EO Fish Stamp Set, as well? Plus cute and colorful Fish BradsFishing LuresFishing Poles and several styles of Fish Tape! Check out all of the Fishy Goodness at Eyelet Outlet!

Let's get our Fishing Rules straight!

Hello, Eyelet Outlet fans! I hope you've had a great week! Leslie here, sharing a fun Father's Day card FULL of awesome brads and of course some washi tape! Yep, Father's Day will be here before we know it and we need to get our Fishing Rules straight beforehand, lol! ;)

I cut a standard A2 size side-folding card base from shimmery black cardstock. I built a little beach scene using Sky Washi Tape-Wide and Water Washi Tape for the background. I printed the Fishing Rules sign on kraft cardstock, adhered it to the background, and embellished it with
Fishing Lure Brads, a Fishing Pole Brad, Trout and Bass Brads, a Wine Brad (don't laugh - I didn't have any beer brads and the wine bottle looked like it could pass for a beer bottle, lol!), a Seagull Brad and Shell Brads. I layered the background panel on kraft cardstock which gave it a nice contrast against the black card base.

I embellished the inside panel with strips of kraft and black cardstock, adhered a stamped and die cut sentiment, and layered it on kraft cardstock.

Thanks so much for stopping by today - we'll see you next time!

Seashore Garden...

...is the name of this beautiful tape from Eyelet Outlet and the only thing I (Lauren) love more than the name is the tape itself!

The Seashore Garden Tape is interesting for its style as well as its look; instead of being a continuous long repeat, the design is actually six different boxes, in which there is a coordinating scene that has fish, sea creatures, shells, coral and flowers. So my first question was, "Do I use this in long strips, or do I cut it down and use the individual boxes?" but pretty quickly I realized the answer was: BOTH! For my first card, I made a note-quite-A2 sized background by lining up three strips of this inch-wide tape, which I matted on a panel of Glitter Copper Tape, mulberry cardstock and a soft mottled lavender paper. I diecut and matted an oval, as well as a strip to hold my Lawn fawn stamped sentiment, "I *sea* it's your birthday". I filled the oval with some trout from the Trout and Bass Brads and accessorized with Shell Corner Brads as well as starfish and sand dollars from the Sea Shore Brad Set

For my second card, I applied a long strip of Seashore Garden Tape to plain white cardstock, then trimmed it down into the six individual boxes that make up the entire design. I matted each one on a rich kraft cardstock, scattered some TroutShell CornerSea Shore and Shell Brads to a few of the squares and affixed them to a white A6 card with a torn bit of the leftover lavender paper from the first card.

I love that both of these cards use ALL the same ingredients... but each is quite unique! I'm anxious to try this two-fer method on some of our other Eyelet Outlet Washi Tapes.

Favorite Things

Masculine cards are often challenging for card makers, but Eyelet Outlet products make them a snap!  Today I'm showcasing just a few Eyelet Outlet brads that the outdoors men in your life would love!

The sentiment and graphics on this 6 panel card are all images from the Cricut image library.  I've added complimentary brads that really make the card pop with texture, color, and interest.  In the top frames you'll see one of our newest releases, the grill brad and another popular one - the bass brad.

In the center you'll find the campfire brad.  The bottom row features the running shoe brads and the tent brad as well as the pine tree brad.

Thanks for being with us today!  Enjoy the day and keep on crafting!

Reel-y Great Birthday

Hi there!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards.

I've never been fishing, but it seems like it would be a very relaxing activity so long as I didn't have to put bait on the hook...or take the fish off the hook...or clean the fish.  On second thought, maybe I'll just stick to making cards about fishing.

Like this one:

I used several Eyelet Outlet product to complete this scene; the Trout & Bass, Seagull and the Pine Tree (soon to be in the store as part of their Fall release) brads and the Pearl Bling Sheets.   These brads are the most realistic looking I've ever worked with.  Here's a closer look at them:

Here's the Bass, fresh out of the water.  Don't those pearls work well as water bubbles.  I added a few smaller white dots as smaller bubbles.  And there's one of those gorgeous Pine trees.

Here we have a bucket full of Trout...looks like they're having a successful day.  In the sky, a Seagull.

Finally, two more Pine trees to complete the scene.  The stamp set I used is called Reel Great Guys by Art Impressions.  The colored the image with Copic markers and highlighted with White Gel Pen on the water and mountains in the distance.

For inside the card, I scanned the stamped image; reversed and reduced it in size.  I added a little sign with the "o-fish-al" age.

You may have noticed this card isn't the standard A2 size.  It's 3 1/2" x 6" and I'm glad I opted for that size to give me the opportunity for a panoramic view.

I'll see you again next week....have a great day!

Reel Experts Tackle Anything

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I'm glad you're here.

It's getting warmer, which means the men in our lives - and some of us women, too - are going to get out their fishing poles and head to the lake to catch some fish. So I decided to make a fishing type of card today for all those fishermen out there.

The fish and the fishing pole brads look so realistic
with all the detail to them.

Now, if you must - go fishing!

But if not - go to the Eyelet Outlet store

Have fun!

Drop Me a Line

Diabolical Pun Warning Level: Very High

I'm not fishing for compliments......but I (Lauren) really (reely!) love the Eyelet Outlet Fishing Lure Brads, so I made a card to celebrate:

In the spirit of full disclosure: I have not gone fishing since I was a child, and even then, it was not a 100% voluntary experience, lol; especially the part that involved touching worms (*shudder*) or fish! But these lures are so pretty and so colorful I was hooked(Ok, sorry, but once you start on fishing puns, it's hard to stop.) I have no idea if, in real life, one would use more than one lure on a line, but design-wise, I liked combining a few of them, so let's pretend this makes sense, k? I placed my sticker sentiment --I cannot possibly over-state the helpfulness of graph paper on these occasions-- and positioned my brads, but didn't set them. This let me sketch lightly, in pencil, a path for my two lines, before machine stitching. At the very end I added a bass (I'm pretty sure that's a bass, but I guess it could be a trout?) from the Trout and Bass set.

You don't need to go back to school (geddit?) to learn some great ways to use the EO Fishing Lure,  and Fish Brads, just check out the blog each week to SEA what the design team is up to! :)

how many diabolical fish puns
are in this post!

Down on the Farm (part two)

Last Autumn I (Laurenmade a set of Farm Animal Artist Trading Cards to celebrate the release of our adorable Eyelet Outlet Cow and Goat, Pig and Sheep and Rooster Brads. Recently it occurred to me that I'd left out the Duck Brads and it was a shame the Horse and Pony Brads hadn't been available yet. So I thought I'd go back and fill in the blanks!

ATC's are traditionally the size of a standard playing card, which is 2.5 x 3.5". These ATC's are, in fact, built on top of actual playing cards. Because they are quite sturdy, plastic coated, and really there isn't much else to do with a deck when you've lost or damaged one of the cards!

Each ATC in this set features a base of ledger paper, an appropriate dictionary definition, and a strip of Red Dot Washi plus some Skinny Gold Tape

But the real stars are the Animal Brads, which I've framed up in some vintage slide mounts. You can build a little scene right on top of the image, but generally I remove the original photograph and adhere the cardboard mount to some sturdy patterned paper. Then I set my brads within the window, which is a perfect size to show them off!

In this second set I've featured the Horse and Pony Brads (which combine a mix of two colors of adult horse, plus adorable foals)Duck BradsLlama Brads, Trout from the Trout and Bass Brads and Sketched Owls which I think are one of the prettiest designs we have.

I made all of the short, punny sentiments with my old school Dymo labelmaker, having recently found Dymo brand tape for sale at Target, of all places! (There are other brands of tape that fit the Dymo, but they don't all STICK like Dymo, and I'll never experiment again, no matter how pretty the colors are!)

I hope you'll be inspired to make some fun ATC's featuring your favorite Eyelet Outlet Brads and Washi Tape!

Quite the Catch!

Hi Friends! kel here today to share a punny fishing card!

I used one of the brand new clear stamps, the Fish Stamp Set. It has this super cute sentiment on it and I thought it would be fun to pair with some of the fish brads and a fishing pole... who knew they made fishing pole brads?!? Awesome!!

I used a wavy border die to create the... well... waves, and was able to actually use one long strip of scrap paper to do it! After I layered it together, I added some Trout and Bass brads to the waves to make it look like they were swimming and jumping out of the water! The last thing I did was add the Fishing Pole brad after stamping out the sentiment from the Fish Stamp Set

Super fun masculine card!! I loved being able to use my scraps on this!! Thanks for stopping by today and see you again soon!!

lovies, =o) kel

To the Lighthouse

Father's Day in the US is Sunday --which arguably makes it a little late to just be starting on cards, lol-- but let's face it, sometimes it's the last minute or nothing, right? And for that matter, I (Laurennever turn down a masculine card idea at ANY time of year, especially one that can be made by combining some of my favorite styles of Eyelet Outlet Brads!

For this not quite 6x6" card, I painted a tiny watercolor --though you could easily do this with stamps-- using some of my favorite shades of ColorBurst pigment powders, then framed it by cutting a heart-shaped hole in some sea-themed dictionary paper backed with cardstock. I attached the brads (which I'll list and link to in a minute!) to the frame, then popped the edges up around the opening using tiny slivers of foam tape. But before I started piercing a million holes in my frame, I did a "dry fit" by flattening the prongs a bit and laying the brads on to estimate how many I'd need; while also checking color, size and arrangement. Then I took a quick pic on my phone, so I'd have something to follow when I started attaching them for real.

So which varieties did I choose? Well, I've got some very handsome Trout and Bass Brads, as well as lots of Stars in assorted colors (each pack has shiny gold, patina-ed silver and copper)Seagulls seemed like a great choice for the lighthouse theme, and of course every good sailor needs a Compass. I hadn't originally thought of using Sketched Owl Brads, but they're so lovely and the colors worked perfectly! After I assembled the main panel, I added a decorative band of Cruise Washi Tape, flanked by two strips of Brown Skinny Glitter Tape, and mounted the entire thing to a folded card in a coordinating shade of teal.

Sending lots of good wishes to all the dads out there for a very Happy Father's Day!

Birthday Card Designs

I needed to restock my birthday card stash, so I challenged myself to combine this week's Freshly Made Sketch ... with the Two Patterned Paper Challenge at Seize the Birthday.

And for a twist, I wanted to use at least one Eyelet Outlet Brad.

The first one combined two papers from Carta Bella's The Great Outdoors together with layered Tim Holtz Alterations die cut sentiment.  The Jumping Bass Brad was the perfect accent.

The second card is vertical using two papers from Studio Calico's Here & There Collection together with an Eyelet Outlet Bicycle Brad ... Success!

Weaving Washi Tape

I love how forgiving Washi Tape is when you design ... you can cut or tear it ... you can reposition it without damaging the paper ... and it is slightly transparent, so you can layer it for fun effects.

Today I made some cards that weaved washi tape by overlapping vertically & horizontally.

The first card combines Fish Washi Tape with fun Trout & Bass Brads.

For the second card I used Paris Washi Tape with the pretty Eiffel Tower brad.

So many possibilities with this technique.

Search through your Washi Tape stash and discover the possibilities.
